RONNIE JAMES DIO Collaborating With TONY IOMMI On New BLACK SABBATH Material - Apr. 12, 2006
Legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio has flown to the U.K. to write a couple of tracks with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi for a forthcoming box set, tentatively titled "Black Sabbath – The Dio Years". The box set will reportedly contain all the BLACK SABBATH albums with Ronnie in fully remastered form with these couple of tracks added as a special bonus. No further information is currently available.

Dio recorded a total of three studio albums with BLACK SABBATH — 1980's "Heaven and Hell", 1981's "Mob Rules" and 1992's "Dehumanizer" — in addition to appearing on the classic live album "Live Evil" in 1983.

As previously reported, Eagle Rock Entertainment has set an April 18 North American release date for DIO's "Holy Diver Live" CD (one day earlier internationally). Captured live in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd, "Holy Diver Live" features the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time. It also includes, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from vocalist Ronnie James Dio's BLACK SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career.

DIO's follow-up to 2004's "Master of the Moon" is expected before the end of the year.

"With respect to the recent rumors of Ronnie's rejoining Black Sabbath, Wendy Dio commented, “Ronnie is not re-joining Black Sabbath. He’s very happy with his own band and will be touring festivals next year with Dio, NOT OZZFEST." She went on to clarify that, "the writing project is just something that may happen between Tony and Ronnie if they have time between their own projects to write one or two songs to be included on the Black Sabbath: The Dio Years box set.”

Tsk, tsk.

I love Dio and he was grat in sabbath but why get so wxcited over 2 songs?I'm sure they will be great songs but they have proven that they can't work together for the long haul so I 'd rather they concentrate on their own stuff than be let down by hearing 2 songs knowing that's all they will do. fused was a great cd so iommi should work with hughes again or get tony martin and put out a new sabbath cd, the music he made with him was great and underrated.

Please, can we hear at least another new studio Black Sabbath album with Dio or Tony Martin on vocals?

This is great news but how about a full length album. I don't even care if they tour or not, a new Sabbath album would suffice. Just curious but, what about Ward and Butler are they involved on this project?

I think at this point I don't even think Ozzy would sound good on a new Sabbath album sadly, he just doesn't have it anymore. Those two new songs on the Reunion album weren't all that special. That being said, something new with Dio or Tony Martin would be cool. Actually I wonder what Ian Gillan would sound like on a new album that would be interesting. I really don't dig the Glenn Hughes stuff, i've tried but I think he sounds awful over Iommi's riffs. Whatever, I just want a new Sabbath album. Still gonna pick this up since my Dio stuff is not re-mastered.

I can't sit through Holy Diver or Last in Line without turning it off...I know it's fucked up but, I'm just being honest. Does anyone feel the same way? Which one of his solo albums would change my mind?

is that Sharon (who I assume has some say over what happens to the Sabbath name nowadays) probably won't put her marketing behind this box set, and it will be a very low-key release. While us folk that keep up with metal news on the 'net will know about it and buy it, many Dio-Sabbath fans that don't, will miss out on it.

And it's shitty circumstances like that, that will make Sharon point and say "see the low sales? Nobody wants to hear Dio sing with Sabbath, he sucks!"

Just like what happened with Dehumanizer. The record lable did very little to promote it, one of Sabbath's heaviest/finest albums, but very few people even knew it was released. Fucking TYR even outsold it I'm told, and TYR SUCKED! of course, there's other factors that didn't help- TYR had the benefit of being released after Headless Cross, where they picked up some new fans thanks to the heavy rotation of the title track video at the time. These new fans then grabbed TYR when it came out, and said "WTF is this shit?" Thus, when the next new album came out, they weren't willing to even give it a chance.

You can't listen to Holy Diver or Last In Line without turning them off? Get a clue! The first two Dio solo Albums are great, personally Holy Diver is Dio's BEST! As for Dio not finding great guitarists, Vivian, though now a total cock lover now, was new and had a great sound when he arrived on the scene, the rest Goldy, Robertson were good, Doug Aldrich was better, but he's another dollars for Guitar riffs, and Tracy G should be buried alive! These were Sabbath's most lucrative in terms of musical composition and public awareness. They didn't have a drunken fat baffoon stumbling all over the stage.

Next to Halford, Dio is metal's greatest singer.

this guy fucking rules. Sabbath's greatest albums (with the possible exception of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath which is right up there for me) were written with Dio. His solo stuff isnt as good as his Sabbath stuff, and Ozzy's solo career is a hell of a lot better than his is. But only because he cant write music the way Iommi or any of Ozzy's guitarists can.
But this i'm still gonna pick up. And $haron can kiss my ass. She cant stop this and if she tries, she's just put (yet another) nail in her coffin. Bring on the soup!

I can't believe some of the ridiculous comments I've read from some of you clowns, talking about how the Dio years of Black Sabbath were superior to the Ozzy years. Take away "Never Say Die" and "Technical Ecstasy" and you still have monster classics like "Volume 4", "Sabatoge", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Paranoid", "Masters of Reality" and "Black Sabbath". To suggest that any of the Dio records (even the best from that phase of the band, "Heaven and Hell") ranks with these records is plain foolish. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, of course, but the real Black Sabbath will always be the Ozzy years. Everyone knows it. Whether or not Ozzy can sing nowadays isn't even worth debating--his contribution to the world of Metal (both with Sabbath and Solo) is a mountain compared to Dio's molehill. Who cares if his wife is a controlling bitch? Why should have have anything to do with Sabbath or the great music they created. Ozzy probably figures that he needs someone to take care of him the rest of his life, and she does just that. Lay off the Godfather of Metal guys...

i felt that with Ozzy Sabbath was very cool, in a slower, sludgier, doomy, more stoned-out way. which is good.

but with Heaven and Hell i felt the songwriting as a whole shifted to more dynamics, more upbeat stuff, more high energy and more melody.

a song like "Turn Up the Night" is a good example. or "The Mob Rules."

obviously this is a generalizion; Ozzy-era Sabbath had a few upbeat songs, and the Dio-era had some slower, darker songs.

but that's my take on the two eras. each great but different.

for my time, i play Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules more than anything else.

cheers.

p.s. for sheer heaviness, Dehumanizer slays.

I personally don't give a shit if tis called Sabbath or Sabbath feat. Ronnie James or Sabbath and friends, or the Sabs or 9021Sab etc etc., All I care is that this shit be tasty and heavy and remeniscent of DIO/Sabbath Heaven and Hell or Dehumanizer or The Mobrules days. Tha's all man, its so good to see that Tony Iommi does respect his work with Martin,Hughes and Dio and Guillan cause its smokin material anyway. There fore I respect him. I'm excited over two tracks cause to me its quality over quantity. Personally man I was not impressed with Iommi's last collaboration with Glen Hughes cause I found it too bluesy unlike Seventh Star which is fucking brilliant. So I only hope these two tracks sound at least like stuff from Dehumanizer. Specially sound like fucking 'TIME MACHINE"!!! oh that shit is badass!!!!!!now I'm off to the witch and don't know if I'll ever come back......cherrios..
