SLIPKNOT Drummer Pays Tribute To DEATH ANGEL

DEATH ANGEL's official web site has been updated with a photo of SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison at the age of 16 sporting a DEATH ANGEL t-shirt and standing behind a drum kit ready to pound away on the skins. An accompanying message from Jordison reads as follows: "This is a picture is from from my 1991 yearbook wearing a DEATH ANGEL 'The Ultra-Violence' shirt. Me and my friends were all heavily influenced by the band and played covers in our garage of DEATH ANGEL classics such as 'Mistress of Pain', 'Bored' and 'Seemingly Endless Time'. It's almost 15 years later and I am still a fan of the band. The new record, 'The Art of Dying', is a must for any fan of old-school upbeat thrash. Here's to one of the best Bay Area bands EVER! Man, my hair sucked." "The Art of Dying" was released in May 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The group's first studio album since 1990's "Act III", "The Art of Dying" was recorded at SF Soundworks studios in San Francisco, California with producer Brian Joseph Dobbs ( VOIVOD, MANMADEGOD).

Hmmmm and yet again!! he sat in for Frost for the entire U.S. Tour...people who think Joey isnt a good drummer know zero about music or drumming, ask any and I mean any of the top drummers in the world what they think about Joey and I guarantee you there will not be one negative comment about him, get a clue and come with more then he plays for a shitty band.

...I honestly think that Slipknot's style and music holds him back from reaching and displaying his true talent and potential. Just watch a solo, and you will see what I mean. GREAT DRUMMER...SHITTY BAND!!!

Slipknot is ok at best. I don't change the channel when they come on. Unfortunately I think what they say in the press and how they carry themselves hurts them in the long run. Except for Jordison, there's alot of unwarranted ego in that band.

Joey is a fucking great drummer, too good for Slipknot in my opinion. Sure Slipknot have turned around a lot since their beginnings and are more metal than nu-metal these days, but the masks and jumpsuits bullshit still sucks major colon. If Slipknot removed those shitty masks and kicked those useless percussionists and DJ out of the band, they would be an awesome true metal band.

Ever since I saw Joey's little attempt at a drum solo on their "Disasterpieces" dvd...I've got to say he's one of the worst drummers in metal.
Learn to use your arms, douche...One day your bass pedal will break, and you'll be exposed as the poser that you are.

People are 'far' to egotisical and self-centered on here. People think that just because a band does not play a style of metal they 'like'.. that it sucks and it's not talented, because anything talented they would surely like! The idea that you guys might actually dislike something music that is talented is beyond your comprehention huh?
I hate Iron Maiden, but they are talented. I hate a lot of bands that are talented because I don't like their 'style' Slipknot are a very talented metal band and they right great metal... weather it is your style or not.

Look, Slipknot has a great gimmick. I would never buy any of their material, but you people don't know music if you think this guy has no talent.
I guess that's why he's filling in for TWO drummers with Ministry this summer. You think Al Jourgenson's just gonna take anyone out? I agree with the comment about losing the percussionists and dj with Slipknot tho. Then maybe we can hear what the fuck they are play half the time.

I'm only 20 years old, so I could not withness the glory days of the bay area first hand, but maaaaaaan what an amazing records did they make there. Exodus, Death Angel, Metallica, Possessed, Testament.....my all-time favorites

You can call it a money hungry statement if you like, but nowadays....
money = survival
In most circumstances thesedays, if you're less than middle class than you are pretty much guaranteed a shitload of hard times. So if you're good at something you like to do and you can use it to make money then you would be a complete fucking moron not to accept the opportunity if its offered to you.
It's not about earning a dollar...it's about reality.
And no matter what anyone says, weather it's Slipknot or Kelly Clarkson, fans will reamain fans. I highly doubt any Slipknot fans are gonna wake up one morning and say, " I think I'll decide to start hating Slipknot today 'cause Joey's a shitty drummer".

Anyway even if you dislike Slipknot Joey is a good Drummer. The sad fact is hes often drowned out by the 2 dudes bashing the bins with baseball bats. And ye gimme a list of better drummers then Joey (im sure there are some, but not millions especially not in Popular bands).

I know how hard everyone would be bitching if Slipknot was another 3rd generation type of bay area thrash kind of band, ala another Athropy, Intruder, or Gammacide.
Even PanterA was smart enough to advoid the songwriting traps that Athropy, Intruder, and Gammacide had ...and went for a more Exhorder vibe
I am glad all those bands like Fear Factory and MachineHead came around with new sounds and approaches back in 1992 and 1994. Because Bay Area thrash was dead by 1991.
Slipknot has the groove of Pantera mixed with the Guitar tone of Roots-era Sepultura and debut -era Soulfly.
I am not Slipknots biggest insane fanatic, but the detractors are saying Slipknot offers nothing for fans of vintage-era Fear Factory and Machine Head... and that statement is not totally true.

Archieves and Artifacts (Restless/ Ryko)...had 2 pressings.
The first pressing had a manufacturing error with " The Ultra Violence" not having the bounus tracks. And the label realized the error right away. And repressed it correctly with the bonus tracks.
So Death Angel fanatics advoid that bad first press run...

I heard all those comment before.
But thrash bands like Atrhopy, Intruder, and Gammacide. the ones that came after Heathen, Forbidden and Death Angel.
Not only killed ... thrash metal like hair metal before it, but Atrhopy, Intruder, and Gammacide. Opened the door wide open for PanterA , Fear Factory, Machine Head, Soulfly and by the time 1999 rolled around for the Slipknot debut.
Was their even a 4th thrash metal generation ???? after all the Atrhopy, Intruder and Gammacide types ran it course .

I don't know what your all talking about. Slipknot rocks and Joey Jordison is one of the best drummers out there today. True, there have been better, and Slipknot isn't the greatest band ever, but Joey and Slipknot still rock. You can't criticize music just because it's new or because the band hasn't been around for twenty years.

Joey looked better when he was younger but he's alright looking now. Anyways, Death Angel is alright. I wasn't really a big fan of their music.
