VELVET REVOLVER's MCKAGAN And WEILAND To Appear As Guest Judges on 'Nashville Star' - Apr. 16, 2006
VELVET REVOLVER's Duff McKagan and Scott Weiland are set to appear as guest judges on the Tuesday, April 25 episode of "Nashville Star" airing live from the Acuff Theater in Nashville, TN at 10:00 p.m. EST/9:00 p.m. CST on the USA network. "Nashville Star" (web site) is a joint effort between RCA Records and USA network to conduct a nationwide talent search for the next great country-music artist.

McKagan confirmed to MTV.com on Tuesday (April 11) that Pharrell Williams will be a producer on the band's follow-up to 2004's double-platinum-certified "Contraband", but he won't be the only one — Lenny Kravitz is also a contender. McKagan also laid to rest rumors that he's in rehab in the Seattle area, which he attributed to being spotted there on vacation with his family.

"We've already started recording some stuff," McKagan said, "and we're going to try out a few different producers on a few different songs, more piecemeal, here and there. It's not as conducive to doing it straight, like, 'We'll take this month to make this record.' It's more informal."

Regarding the Pharrell collaboration, Duff said, "[Frontman] Scott [Weiland] and I met him at a Clive Davis party in L.A. a year and a half ago. That's when it started. We said, 'Hey, man, want to do a track with us?' And he said, 'I'd love to.' "

"I've always been a huge fan of early Motown and soul and PRINCE, so to explore something like that with Pharrell would be amazing," Duff added. "There's nothing like that out there. It's uncharted territory. Dude, it's going to be way cool. It's going to be stinky. Pharrell's a genius."

First album was so overrated. There wasn't a tune on there that stood up to anything Guns did. I'm starting to realize that Slash can't write songs. It must have been Axl and Izzy all along.

Izzy wrote some of the songs on Contraband actually. But anyways, it's not lyrically up to the standard of Guns, which is obvious and Chi Dem wont have as good guitar work since there's no Slash and will probably be a bit pretentious knowing Axl.

Conclusion = GnR are EVERYTHING together and nothing apart.

I don't agree. Chi Dem has Buckethead and Robin Finck. Neither are slouches. The songs are totally pretentious from the six I have heard, but then again, so was most of UYI I and II.

I just listened to the UYI albums a few days ago and there's an undeniable chemistry between those guys, particularly Slash and Axl. But can you recapture that after so much has gone down? Not always.

He did jam with the band and put forth a few tunes but they were scrapped because they were meant to be for a singer with more range than scott weiland.

I don't know why people have a problem with VR. Their debut album was a solid effort with plenty of good rock songs. I rate it higher than the UYI albums.

FUCK VELVET REVOLVER, FUCK 'NASHVILLE STAR', FUCK THE NASHVILLE PREDATORS NHL TEAM, AND FUCK NASHVILLE.

ugh. Nashville has probably been the worst fucking city i've ever been to in my life. Des Moines, Iowa is probably the most boring and my second least favorite ever.
just throwing that out there.
