SLAYER Finish Recording New Album; Mixing To Begin This Week

More dates have been confirmed for the SLAYER-headlined "Unholy Alliance Tour - Preaching to the Perverted" which will kick off on 6.6.06 in San Diego, CA (see entire itinerary below). The seven-week trek boasts what has got to be the genre's coolest line-up — joining SLAYER will be LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON and CHILDREN OF BODOM (who will rotate the second and third slots), and THINE EYES BLEED, who will open the shows.
For the most part, SLAYER — Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitars), Jeff Hanneman (guitars), and Dave Lombardo (drums) — have finished recording tracks for their as-yet-untitled new album due out this fall, and will begin the mixing process this week. This album is the first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss" that features the entire original SLAYER lineup (drummer Lombardo left the band in 1992 and rejoined in 2003). Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated SLAYER sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", is executive-producing, and Josh Abraham (KORN, VELVET REVOLVER, ATREYU) is producing. Working songtitles include "Catalyst", "Cult", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy".

It's all good with or without Dave, this bands has NEVER disappointed me at all. Everything since Seasons was just as good as Dave's stuff...Paul was excellent.
Can't wait until the Cleveland show. I'm kinda old school with music, heard all the scheduled openers before live, and I don't like 'em, but I definately want to see Slayer.

How can people say Slayer record the same album over and over? Are they fucking deaf?? Hell Awaits - Reign in Blood - South of Heaven - 3 albums in a row that all sound very different to each other. And none of them sound like the stuff they`ve released on the last 2 albums. If they all sounded the same why would there be such a feeling amongst old Slayer fans that the last couple of albums have sucked due to too many modern influences? Why is there always a cry for Slayer to return to their roots?

alright alright, i get the point, i was ignorant to say that, since i dont really listen to slayer for the simple reason of the vocals and solos, to me theyre not very good and not listenable. Araya was good on abyss though. The guitarists should look at some guitar scales and Araya should take a few singing lessons to maybe sound like he's singing on the song. DOnt get me wrong the riffs and drums are very good.

ill admit that sometimes their lyrics are repeatitive but slayer hasnt always said the same thing over and over. they have talked about war, murder, gangs, politics, religious bashing, death, satanism. what more do you want? do you expect for a band to write about their feelings and use an emo clean voice like atreyu, it dies today, and trivium? if so, go fuck yourself! i respect a band that doesent write about their feelings most of the time or always. im glad to hear bands use the words satan, kill, blood, etc. cause most of these newer bands hardly do it! sure it doesent always have to be about violence but it shouldnt be whiny.

Anyone doenst know they DO make the same album over and over again is beyond me. Kerry and Tom both said they make music for the fans. And the fans dont respond well to change. So if they did change in the slightest, like the kinda did with GHUA, the fans would turn, which is what happened to an extent.

Slayer is an authetic thrash band. If you were not listing to hardcore punk in the early 1980's, before those California Speed Metal bands got influenced by California hardcore punk rock movement.
You can not understand the Slayer approach to guitar solos, if you did not listen to the bands that were cataylst to the SHOW NO MERCY sound, ala Exploited, Discharge, Black Flag...
The Slayer solo approach is basically what Black Flag did but to the 666th power.
Sorry Ken90120, this new Slayer album will not have anything to do with Blink187 or Sell out - era Metallica !!!!!

There was a day I thought they could do no wrong, but new slayer just doesn't get me that excited. So many hold them up on a pedastal for never "going soft" or "selling out" & want them to "show the kiddies how it is done", but at this point; who cares? They secured their place in metal history a long time ago & it's great Lombardo came back, but at this point; who cares? What are they going to do that they haven't yet? God hates us all, God wants to kill us all, play Reign in Blood front to back live complete witrh blood showers, whatever. They aren't going to give us anything we haven't heard from them before. Same old Slayer; different year. I would respect them more if they would take a shot & expirement a little with the sound, tempo, lyrical content & approach to songwriting at this point in their career. They will still sell the same amount of albums & draw the same crowd at the shows. On a positive note; I give them credit for putting together a credible, solid metal tour for a reasonable price. My compliments on a nice tour package.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years - classical, jazz, metal, blues - and I respect the Slayer guitarists highly. I don't have much respect for your opinions.
3. 'The lyrics are no good'.
I think some of the lyrics are great, surprisingly poetic. See South of heaven, dead skin mask, temptation, spirit in black, altar of sacrifice, jesus saves, reborn etc

Why would Arya want to "sing"???? He never has and probably never will, that is not what Slayer is about, and to be honest with you, I could't picture hearing some Petrucchi or other guitar wizardry in a Slayer song, KK fits the band cuz he's an original member and one of the main songwriters............Slayer is Slayer BRCAUSE of KK and Hanneman's guitarwork and Araya's Yelling or screaming whatever. That is why Slayer has so many devoted fans cuz they will not change their sound to appease the newer "metal" fans, I will be the first to admit, they did experiment with some "newer" sounding stuff on Diabolus but even then they were still Slayer experimenting with the Slayer sound they do have a right to do that.

i'm deffinately eager to hear how this one turns out. I think the last great album they put out was Divine Intervention...not that i didnt like god hates us all, for it had some cool songs, such as god send death, and exile. I wasnt a huge fan of diablos, although Bitter Peace is a killer track.

I don't remeber the exact tour ( I think it was in '99) , but yes they did tour with Meshuggah. It was a awesome show. The funny, or retarded, part is while Meshuggah was playing I actually overheard someone say, and I shit you not, that they "sounded like a shitty Fear Factory"....LMAO...like, what?

I am sorry if you do not agree with me but for every "die hard" Slayer fan there are about 1000 people who see them for the untalented hacks that they are. The only reason Slayer garnered so much attention back in the day is because they were the most popular "shock" band around at the time.
These days you can find so many bands that spout lyrics about satan and killing that it is pathetic. Hell rap groups do a better job at lyricing about killing people than Slayer does.

If it weren`t for Slayer the whole metal scene would be entirely different. All you hater`s...whatever band it is you`re digging right now...I bet they cite Slayer as an influence.
End of the day....if you don`t like a band fair enough, taste is subjective. But don`t post shite claiming that bands of import had none. I don't like all their albums of course but 'Reign In Blood' is a fucking classic. It opened alot of people's eyes as to what could be done within extreme metal.

If you want to get up on stage and play the same music day after day, literally, for 20 years, thats fine. I would kill myself after day 2. Miles Davis said it best, "If I thought the way I did back when I was younger, Id kill myself" thats a REAL statement, from a REAL musician, not some bald headed douchebag who rips on every REALLY GOOD musican (Mustaine) when he gets the chance.

what i was tryin to say is stop tryin to make out like slayer is the fuckin epitome of metal hat can do no wrong.granted they can write a good thrash riff (repetitive) but al they are is a good speedthrash band thats stuck
