METALLICA, ANTHRAX, ALICE IN CHAINS Members To Comment On 'Greatest Metal Songs Of All Time' - Apr. 16, 2006
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian, ALICE IN CHAINS' Jerry Cantrell and Ronnie James Dio are among the musicians making up the panel of hard rock scholars who will rate some of the "very best hotel-trashing hard rock anthems" as part of VH1's "40 Greatest Metal Songs" two-hour special premiering Monday-Thursday, May 1-4 at 11:00 p.m. "Whether epic, political, scary or downright silly, these hard-driving tunes have one thing in common: they'll rock your friggin' socks off!" reads a press release. More information will be made available soon.

some of the VH1 metal things are actually good, but a lot of the time i feel ripped off when they release the number thing. The number one band in hard rock history is NOT Led Zeppelin. If they were number one, then why is it that so many more bands are influenced by SABBATH than by ZEPPELIN?! The true measure of greatness in music is how many people you inspire, and Sabbath have influenced every metal band in some way or another.

But this sounds awesome, i wonder what they'll pick as number one.
As long as it isnt MTV doing this, it cant be all that bad. Especially with guys like Dio having input. wonder if Dee Snyder will be the narrator like always

For what it is worth, the list is pretty good for VH1 standards. Yes, there are several songs paying homage to those who appear on VH1 for various shows, etc., but there are several songs that I would not have expected to see on there given that VH1 usually gives us watered down "lists".

Here is the actual list
