NICKELBACK: Live Video Of DIMEBAG Tribute Track Posted Online

A live video of NICKELBACK performing their track "Side of a Bullet" — featuring a solo by late PANTERA/ DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott played over the speakers and a large screen with video footage of Dimebag going through the whole song — has been posted online at YouTube.com. "Side of a Bullet", which was written by NICKELBACK frontman Chad Kroeger as a tribute to his fallen friend, was featured on NICKELBACK's most recent album, "All the Right Reasons", which came out last October via Roadrunner Records. Kroeger initially wanted Abbott's brother, PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul, to play drums on the track, but Paul didn't think he could improve on NICKELBACK drummer Daniel Adair's take. Kroeger told Launch that Paul put another idea in motion instead. " Darrell's wife, Rita, got in touch with us and just started sending us all this stuff, like, him playing so many different solos, and we pieced this solo together and it fits the song so well," Chad said. "And it's kind of spooky to be singing about him, you know, your friend who's gone, and then have him play this shredding, amazing guitar solo." Kroeger roars in the song's chorus: "How could you take his life away (What made you think you had the right?)/ How could you be so full of hate (To take away somebody's life?)/ When I heard you let him die and leave the world, I wondered why/ I sat and home and on my own, I cried alone and scratched your name in the side of a bullet." "Side of a Bullet" was written three months after Abbott was shot to death by a disturbed gunman during a December 8, 2004 DAMAGEPLAN concert in Columbus, Ohio. Kroeger told Launch how he felt when he heard about Abbott's death and how he's dealt with it since. "I was very, very upset and really angry," he said. "I couldn't understand why somebody would do that. I stay in touch, I call Vinnie and just try and keep his mind off of things. It's nice to let him know that he could just call you up and talk about anything — it doesn't have to be about Darrell — and just be there for him."

Hey, they write good songs. Roadrunner must be happy.
But I cannot wait for that Def Leppard covers album in May.
Its going to be heavier and better than Slayer's new one.
Dave Lombardo only wishes he could play as good as Def Leppard's drummer. I'm serious.

Dimebag was friends with everyone pretty much. Thats why he was such a great guy.

This Nickelback tribute can't be anywhere as bad as Zakk Wylde and BLS ridiculous "The River" song and video.

I love the lame part where the two kids playing Zakk and Dime are standing by the river with their bikes and of course Zakk writes it so that Lil' Dime is all scared to drive his bike into the water. FUCK YOU ZAKK WYLDE. YOU SUCK.

they suck so bad that's why dime played on their last record and vinnie let them use the solo for the song, and it is a great song but you assholes don't seem to like music were you can actualy understand what the singer is saying and music that just isn't cranked up to 10, in other words a real song not this hardcore shit you call metal.

Metal bands did do tributes...where have you been?
I understand why people don't like Nickelback and that they're not metal, but I give 'em major props for doing what they did. The fact that they're not metal makes it more significant IMO. If it wasn't sincere, they wouldn't be doing it to bunch of non-metal fans. Now if they were trying to move in on metal's fans and acting all metal and trying to impress the metalheads...then I'd say fuck them! But they're not, they're showing it to their own fans.

Kelly Clarkston used (before her fame obviously) to wait tables at a place Dime & Vin frequented in Dallas, so there's that affilation, and Dime and Chad used to hang out alot and drink whiskey, amongst other pranks, endeavours, & gut pounding laughter.
I'm not a Nickleback fan, but I respect what and why they did what they did, as the same goes for Disturbed.
I am a fan of Anthrax, Zakk (earlier stuff), Nick Bowcott (Girm Reaper and the reason Dime Did all those Guitar columns), fuck, even SB,... and ALL the fun-lovin, shred shit up, hell raising bands and fans with everything they do thats that burns like Dime.
Fortunately, Dime had camera's rolling daily onstage and off for for years on years, boxes and boxes of Video footage and music from Dime's 4-tracks will keep Dime alive beyond all our graves!
