JUDAS PRIEST Bassist: New Album Will Be 'Very Much Along The Traditional Lines' - Apr. 19, 2006
Metal Temple chief editor Orpheus Spiliotopoulos recently conducted an interview with JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill. An excerpt from the chat follows:

Metal Temple: How do you feel about the "Angel of Retribution" album now, almost a year after its release?

Ian Hill: "I think it did what we set out to do. We started out to portray all the different aspects of heavy metal that we've been involved with over the years. Not just the heavier side of things, also the more commercial, the more laid back; all of the aspects of the genre. And I think we achieved that. I think it's given everyone some idea of what we've been involved with over the years. A lot of the fans never saw us with Rob [Halford; vocals] and it was just great for them to not just see him on tour but to experience a new album as well, doing all the different kinds of music we've been known for over the years."

Metal Temple: So, as you said, after "Angel of Retribution", it's time now to be all locked up in the studio for 2006...

Ian Hill: "That's it, yeah [Laughs]!"

Metal Temple: You have any new tracks ready? As far as the basic structure goes.

Ian Hill: "Ken [Downing; guitar] and Glenn [Tipton; guitar], I believe, have ideas and Rob's always got a catalog of vocals he works on. So, yeah, I should imagine that there will be a few tracks that'll come together quite quickly."

Metal Temple: Any clue about the overall direction of the new songs? Music wise...

Ian Hill: "We're not going to go off on any tangents, that's for sure [Laughs]! It will be recognizably JUDAS PRIEST, very much along the traditional lines. We've got no plans for another 'Turbo' or something like that [Laughs]. We're going to keep it as everyone wants."

Supposed to be an album about the life of Nostradamous.
That 's sounds something like Maiden would do.
Still, it's an awesome idea.
I predict it's going to be dark sounding.
That Nostradamous was a brilliant man, but one hell of a spooky dude. he cured people of the black death disease, but was able to predict television, flight, and assassinations four hundred years ahead. Wow man, that's some epic visions there dude!!

Angel was a superb release, The Priest are still the undenieable "Metal Gods", nobody comes close to Halford vox wise and musically they can do anything better than the rest of "The New Wave Of American Heavy Metal" bands that cite them as influence but knock their impact today.
As for Nu Metallers YOU SUCK!, The Priest have done it all first and best!

Agreed 110% In fact I want a few more fast ones like Demonizer and Hellrider. Throw in a few Halford screams for me and I AM THERE.

The one thing I miss about the Ripper-era Priest is that Ripper could SCREAM. Halford's older and so is his voice, but I prefer Rob of course. But Ripper had his moments.

CALL FOR THE PRIEST!

If its a theme within the lyrics only but the broken into distinct songs like Mindcrime and any Iced Earth Album its works, but if it ends up like Dio's Shite Fest Magica it could really blow

First off, If the album is about Nostradomus, that is even Cheesy for Judas Priest. I have run onto about 100 albums about that guy.

Secondly, as a person who studied him for a long time while going to college, as a hobbie, I can safely say that the black death is an utter myth, and most of his quatrains can be made out to be anything you want them to be. The only think Nostradomus was brilliant at was making money off being a con.

Angel of Retribution wasn't exactly classic priest, but it was damn close. And it was damn good too. This is going to be the album that blows everyone away, and all you fucking "Halford is gay so that means judas priest sucks!" fuckers wont be able to say shit after this. This album is going to kick all of your asses.

I always get a kick out of this, and I don't know why ... if you'll recall, without fail, when Blabbermouth posts a "story" that includes a quote from somebody, the quote is ALWAYS right smack at the end of the interview. Kind of a cute little way to ensure you read the whole thing first. But I always skip to the end out of pure spite.

I mean, you would NEVER see a headline for this story that read, "JUDAS PRIEST Bassist: Angel of Retribution Album 'Did What We Set Out To Do.'

Them tricky sons of bitches!

Ken, you are a complete dick. If there's one band who doesn't put out the same album each time, it is Judas Priest. Go listen to sad wings, british steel, turbo, painkiller, jugulator. If you think they all sound the same you are stone deaf or mentally ill.

Angel of retribution is alright, even Lochness, it's just the lyrics
that are a bit rediculous, but a lot of HM song are that.

Angel of Retribution was a step in the right direction for them, but still a little disappointing.
