Report: Deal Made For DAVID LEE ROTH To Be Replaced On CBS RADIO

According to Hits Daily Double, CBS Radio's Joel Hollander has made a deal with XM Radio to replace David Lee Roth with Opie and Anthony. Look for the High Voltage duo to return to the terrestrial airwaves on CBS' N.Y., Philly and Dallas' Free-FMs as well as WBCN Boston, WNCX Cleveland, Pittsburgh's K-Rock and West Palm Beach's The Buzz. They will also continue to be heard on XM channel 202.
The Associated Press reported last week that Roth has rarely hit the right notes since his January debut on New York's WFNY-FM (billed as Free-FM) and six other CBS Radio stations. In a recent broadcast, Roth claimed he was bombarded with four management letters in five days about content and predicted his show could be finished before May.
Several of his on-air sidekicks were dumped as the program struggled to find its groove. Roth disappeared from the airwaves for two days amid the turmoil.

Try listening to radio in Los Angeles. IT SUCKS ASS! There is NO metal station or hard rock for that matter. It's either the same 40 alternative songs on KROQ, the crappy classics of KLOS or the jukebox of JACK. No wonder satellite services are kicking terrestrial radio is getting the crap kicked out of it. The only decent radio market it seems is Phoenix where they have at least a few hard rock stations but Phoenix is a sweltering hell hole and have no beach where bikini's are plentiful. I guess it's a trade off but LA used to have KNAC and KLSX which played the best metal in hard rock on the planet. Thank god I don't commute in this town or those morons Mark and Boring would make me commit suicide. Toyota Corolla is moderately entertaining but he's a KROQ escapee and talks his way into a paper bag most days. If you have a decent radio station in your town or city, just be thankful you don't live here or you'd go insane.

how is O&A going to return to testicular radio AND be on XM? they're going to have to tone down their show AND it'll be on delay with dump buttons everywhere. i just don't get this move. it kind of seems like a step backwards, although i can understand them thinking their ratings will skyrocket as they now are on testicular and satellite radio. i still don't know if this is a good move. oh well, stern rules them anyway.

DLR's show was pretty good when it started, it included good political discussion etc, but when he didn't get immediate ratings, management got worried, and tried to make him like howard stern. DLR doesn't suck here, corporate america does! America Sucks! and so do Opie and Anthony!

Hope those dopes enjoy regular old boring FM radio again. Whether they have more listeners or not with FM, the bottom line is they will be stunted creatively again, and forced into a half hour of commercials each hour. CBS radio (and "Free FM Radio" as a whole for that matter) are on the way out. Good to hear actually.
Sirius Satellite Radio is REAL radio. Fuck the F.C.C.
Poor Dave needs to join Sirius if he really is into doing radio. I'm sure Howard would give him a chance.

Speaking has a former DJ, (back when that was an actual JOB -Remember Kids?) Radio is simply DEAD, period. Corperations have bought up every station they can get there grubby hands on and dummed it down so now 90% of what you hear is a "hit." The last bastion of free radio is college radio and even they have rules about the music they play. How many FM Rockers even play Opeth, DT OR PT? Not enough and it's so sad... But, if you don't speak up about the bullshit they call music on air on your local radio station then they'll just keep playing the same 750 lame ass tunes over and over and over again... Well another Dave chapter ended. Maybe this can generate in something good. Move back to Pasadena and do a f#ckin great deal with Ed and the Warners. Get over the old shit and do it like in the old days. Rehearse and make music (ie work instead of acting like babies). Who knows what may come out of it. At least you could give us one descent tour free from Sammy era material. Grand style, Dave produced show.
Or, if all that is just utophia, reunite the EEAS band; Roth, Vai, Sheehan and Bisonette. That band would kick classic Van Halen's musical ass any day. I've seen them both and as much as I would prefer classic VH any day, the EEAS band are amazing musicians. I saw Van Halen live at Råsunda in Stockholm on August 25th 1984. They played sloppy, unfocused vocals, horrible sound. But still it was THE MIGHY VAN HALEN. We need a better ending than the current one. And at least, Dave isn't fat....

this is just another case of poor carrer move by a washed up no talent has been who hasn't done anything since his Van Halen days. those days were great but long over and he has done nothing but live off the name for years. come on people wake up it's not 1984 anymore! if you go to see him in concert is it for his solo work or the van halen songs? since he only does vh songs there is your answer. sure Sammy does vh songs to but he has enough great songs of his own to do so it's not a vh tribute show like roth's and face it his songs are great unlike roth's sorry tunes. The whole reason Viacom canned them was they recorded people having sex in St Patricks Cathedral in NYC. Now Viacom AKA CBS Radio is taking them back? It should be funny to see what the religious right will do about this. I tried listening to these guys once and it was just tedious. I heard Dice Clay talking about what assholes these guys were around his kid once...sounds like they're real lowlives. How long before these guys get dropped...let the wagering begin!

O&A will not change their show. They (personally) will not be confined to FCC guidelines. They will do their XM show. It is up to CBS radio to make it suitable for the FM airwaves.
Besides, it will be a 4 hour XM commercial every morning....

if not just for Stern but also Hard Attack as some of my fellow posters have noted, XM doesnt even have a metal station, they have a "hard rock" station that plays the same old Sevendust, Staind and Fuel tracks, snore. give me Hard Attack and Beyond the Pit. no other station gives you an hour of nothing but death, black and grind metal.
