Bassist HANK III: SUPERJOINT RITUAL Is 'In The Grave'

In a recent interview with Live-Metal.net, SUPERJOINT RITUAL bassist Hank III discussed his new solo album, "Straight to Hell", and revealed that he is working on a new project with SUPERJOINT RITUAL/ex- PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo called ARSON ANTHEM. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow: Live-Metal.net: What is going on with SUPERJOINT RITUAL? Hank III: " SUPERJOINT is in the grave right now, because someone tried bossing the boss and you NEVER boss the boss. Now he had to learn the hard way, so Philip has laid that band to rest. It might come back. I seriously doubt it. But in the meantime, DOWN is working on their new record and getting ready to be touring here soon. I've got another side project with Philip. I'm playing drums and Philip's is playing guitar. Mike Williams from EYEHATEGOD is screamin' and it's called ARSON ANTHEM. So far we've got eight songs of it recorded. So we're still having fun and making music, just getting in there and jammin', man." Live-Metal.net: Your music seems to be evolving with each release that you put out. How do you see you music changing with your future releases? Hank III: "I think it is more of a step in a direction that captures what we are. I mean, as far as us being a little rough around the edges, ya know. This record definitely captures that a lot more then the earlier ones ’cause – I don't know – ’cause we weren't able to be ourselves as much. The kind of crowd we attract, I mean some of them are straight-up Americans, but a lot of them are the kids in black and the hellraisers and partiers and all that stuff, the more rebel kind of crowd. Live-Metal.net: Do you get a lot of pressure to tone down anything that you record from your label? Hank III: "No, not anymore. They know I have been in the courtroom for the last four and a half years with them for a reason, and that is the key. Respect us for what we are, ya know. Everybody else can fit in the mold. There's 125 bands that can fit in the mold around here, so it's OK for one of them to go against the grain and then for them to halfway respect us, man ... So ... Getting there." Might also be that their record label tried to pull some shit, Phil has a habit of just putting a band to rest when that happens. He claimed Down was inactive for so long because the label was fucking them around on shit.

hasn't phil said, time and time again, that SJR was his main band now? I never understood why so many ppl bashed SJR. no, it isn't even close to pantera or down by any means, but it wasn't supposed to be. all their shit (especially the second album) was some good, heavy, stripped down metal. i listen to it all the time. this new stuff he's talking about sounds promising.

Folks, let us not forget that is was Anselmo's unusually large ego that pretty much put Pantera in the grave and when the brothers Abbott wanted to put it back together it was our good fuck head friend Phil who said he was too busy with this project and Down to make it happen. Now Panter is gone and who really gave a shit about SJ. Down is fine but it is an insignificant trade off for what we have lost.
So, basically, Phil, GO FUCK YOURSELF. YOU'RE A TWAT WHO TURNED YOUR BACK ON THE GUYS WHO MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU HAVE.
Anyone who feels bad about this needs to wake up too.

All these PHIL GROUPIES always come out when people give props to Dime who in fact was an innovative guitar player and probably would have made big with Blowhard Anselmo but the combination of the group and timing made it what is was.
FYI, DIME was a great guitarist. You've obviously have never listened to or seen other great guitarists to know what your talking about. A little lesson for the ignorant, a great guitarist is someone who able to take his influences to another level of inventiveness that is unique yet honoring those he is influenced by. Sure, some of any guitarists chops are derivative but Dime's prowess was unique in so many ways that words cannot describe. But this is all lost on someone who stoops to the level of wanting to have someone shot for their opinion. You are wasting oxygen. Find some rope and tall tree and do us all a favor. I don't want to kill, just think you should save us all and yourself the misery of your existance.
The undeniable fact is that Phil put the skids and put off putting Pantera back together in order to satisfy his inflated ego. READ THE FUCKING INTERVIEWS MORON and the Abbott's continually said they were trying to revive it and FUCK HEAD FULL OF HIMSELF ANSELMO continually stated he was too busy with current projects. HE CAN SUCK MY DICK JUST LIKE YOUR MOTHER DID LAST NIGHT. You proably really wanna shoot me now. Come on over and play a little throwdown. Make sure you get a good shot in because your not getting another and say goodbye to solid food as well.

Did I say he was greatest? No, I didn't. I said he was a great guitarist whom I feel his contributions and talent are worthy of merit. Frankly, Randy Rhoads and Jimi Hendrix were the greatest ever and that is my OPINION.

You're the one who initially condoned the violence against me for stating MY opinion. Please read your first post. I was merely, once again, stating my OPINION and defending myself against the harm you wish upon me.

Replace Phil? That's a laugh. Anyone into Pantera didn't want Phil replaced. Ridiculous prospect at best and the Abbott's didn't want to replace him either or they would have. They wanted PANTERA (Dime, Phil, Vinny & Rex). It's like asking (Paul, Ringo and John to replace George). IMO, if they have reformed they could have set their price and made a ton of cash and ruled! But Phil was too busy for years. Seems a little self centered to ingnore the band that made you. Sometimes you gotta know where you bread was/is buttered. To me Phil blew off Pantera and their fans all in the name of, IMO, crappy projects. The Abbott's certainly weren't innocent but at some point you have to get over yourself return to the fold that made you.
You're right, making fun of your mom, the fact you can't fit through a normal sized door or needs tweezers to find your pecker is petty. It's just a Sunday morning reaction to someone who seems equally obsessed with giving undue credit, IMO, to a moderately competent frontman who ignored his roots and then cried a river when no one would give him the time of day after one of the men who made him who he is has tragically and needlessly taken away from the fans who may have overtly appreciated his contributions to the music they are fond of.
I do accept the fact that Dime is gone and the only time I experience frustration is when irritants come on this board and downplay or attempt to diminish his contributions albeit unsuccessfully.
Just a little advice, this board is about OPINIONS. I stated mine and without warrant or provocation you attacked mine. THAT IS AN UNDENIABLE FACT.
Finally, Did I ever say anything bad about Chuck or diminish his contributions? I'm sure if I had you would have countered with your OPINION.

That the new Hank III cd was good, I totally agree. I've never really cared for country, but this cd is fucking awesome. Between this and Scott H Biram, I'm a little more open to some country. Well Biram isn't toally country, more of a blues, rock, country mix type dude.
