SLIPKNOT Guitarist To Embark On IBANEZ Clinic Tour
- Apr. 25, 2006
|
|
SLIPKNOT guitarist Mick Thomson is setting out on a 5-city guitar clinic tour, during which he hopes to create an intimate setting for interacting with his fans, as well as unveiling his new custom-designed Ibanez MTM1 Mick Thomson signature electric guitar. The MTM1 was custom designed to Mick's exact specifications, including his choice of pickups, strings and bridge. The guitar arrives from the factory in Mick's preferred tuning of C# with a dropped B. The clinic tour, which starts in Wisconsin and ends in California, will allow Mick to show fans some of SLIPKNOT's signature riffs as well as answer questions and sign autographs for all in attendance. Says Mick of the clinic: "It's not just for the virtuosos out there and it's not going to be an hour of showing off licks. I'm hoping it's helpful to players and non-players alike." All clinics start at 7:00 p.m. and the dates are as follows: May 01 - Cascio Music - Waukesha, WI (262-513-8320) May 03 - Alpha Music - Virginia Beach, VA (757-486-2001) May 05 - Musician's Discount - Miami, FL (305-255-9466) May 08 - Hermes Trading Co. - San Antonio, TX (210-348-7225) May 10 - Instrumental Music - Ventura, CA (805-654-9388) For more information, visit Ibanez.com. SLIPKNOT capped off an amazing two years on February 8 by winning their first Grammy Award, in the category of "Best Metal Performance", for "Before I Forget" from 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)". SLIPKNOT has been nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for six consecutive years, but never took home the Grammy until now. The band went on hiatus at the end of 2005 after nearly 18 months on the road in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)". SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are now recording the second album from their other band, STONE SOUR, while percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan will make a new album with his side project, TO MY SURPRISE. Drummer Joey Jordison will tour this spring and summer with MINISTRY.

what a joke. i hope you don't torture people by trying to teach the garbage your band wrote for that train-wreck you wrote called Vol. 3.
i have an idea, how about a guitar clinic with the guitarists from Cephalic Carnage? or the former guitarists from The Crown? now THOSE are a couple of bands with guitar players who fucking play! even better, how about a guitar clinic starring the guys from the almighty------

...that no-one gives a sweet fuck about.
Seriously, it might as well be Mick.
Some people, understandably, don't like Slipknot. But Mick knows their(Ibanez) guitars and I'm sure he's a perfect candidate to fill the bill considering the market they are trying to appeal to.
So don't get your panties in a bunch. It doesn't mean that Slipknot now owns Nevermore, or Joe Beefaroni is no longer the greatest Ibanez player in the eyes of the manufacturer. You guy's, fir the most part, are delusional assholes.

but the name SLIPKNOT will draw more of a crowd than The Crown, Mick and Slipknot won a fuckin grammy, and by doing that they have mainstream recognition which leads to awesome opportunities for the members of Slipknot, i dunno maybe something like a guitar clinic for Mick i wont be surprised if they get more deals like this. but any smart business person knows Slipknot has name recognition and can get more people to come, which is probably why that concept is lost on a majority of you.

I'm hearing your arguments, but what is your point?
Would you prefer that people realize that this clinic is a bullshit farce and therefore stay at home and spend time listening to 'Real Metal'?
They arn't Deicide. That's quite obvious. You'll find that most people here don't like or even listen to Slipknot. So who are you really trying to convince? I'm guessing you're trying to convince yourself.

From a buisness perspective, who the fuck would book Herman Li over Mick from Slipknot.
If the people in attendance were seriously talented, they would have already develpoed a loyalty to a guitar manufacturer. I play BC Rich, and if Jeff Hanneman held a guitar clinic it wouldn't convince me to go to ESP just because he shreds. The kids that will go to this clinic likley have a Squire Strat and a Roland Cube at home. Ibanez isn't interested in solidifing existing loyalties. They want inexperienced kids to think that an Ibanez Mick signature series RG or the like will make them an instant shredder. Use your head.

It just sounded like some of you were questioning Ibanez's decision. Keep in mind that they just released a Mick signature series guitar called the MTM1.
If you really think they should have gotten a better guitar player to do this, you're lower than the kids at Hot Topic you so desperatly need people to diss.

Booking Mick Thompson for a clinic is BAD business. Not good business. If you want to sell a guitar, you get a pro, not someone from a shitty as band who can shred on the side so nobody knows about his actual skills. The Slipknot fans will GO, but this won't be a "high demand" thing or anything. Clinics are usually fairly small and are only a few dates, not a full tour or anything like that. Clinics that do WELL, are usually conducted by musicians that are highly regarded for their talent, like Mike Portnoy for instance. His clinics are world renown and are very good sellers.
The ONLY people who will go to this are Slipknot fans, and hardcore ones at that. Most people have no idea that Mick can solo, and the average Slipknot fan is very unfamiliar with a guitar clinic, so it's doubtful that you'll see one.

That shit doesn't make you money pal, so if you're the one asking, I might as well be a buisness king. Ibanez made more money off of Korn then they ever have of of Satriani and Vai.
Slipknot = $$$
Deal with it.

The point is that they want to draw kids who don't know jack about guitars. How many people do you know that bought Ibanez because of Korn, and other shit bands. I know tons.
I put it to you that this has NOTHING to do with skill. It's about trends.

Umm... And you have the figures for that? Because last time I checked, the "gem" is one of Ibanez's most popular models. The JS series as well. I've never seen ANYONE besides Meshuggah with a K7.
And for your information I do not own a signature series guitar of any kind. Nice assumption you illiterate douchebag. Learn to spell.

I used to think he sucked too. He's actually got some shred in him. Some advanced technique. Nothing groundbreaking but he's not the nu-metal guitarist alot of people think he is. Shame that most of the stuff he and Jim Root do with Slipknot is just sludge riffage :(

All day long you guys bash slipknot but never really say why you don't like them? Is it becuase Joey can out drum 90% of the bozos out there? Is it because the guitar players manage to play their riffs with multiple textures with in the same song? Or maybe it's because Corey can scream AND sing all with in the same song PLUS have the ability to make his lyrics intelliglble?!? Or are you just angry cause the lyrics have big words that make you morons use a dictionary?
THe worst part of all of this hoopla is Mick's guitar is going to WAY over priced and no one will buy it because of the "signature" price tag.
Next time you talk trash say more than "suck" and "gay" in you little moments on the soap box.
