D.R.I. Guitarist SPIKE CASSIDY Diagnosed With Colon Cancer; Band Cancel Tour

Legendary punk/metal crossover band D.R.I. (DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES) have cancelled their previously announced U.S. tour. According to a statement released by the group's booking agent, D.R.I. guitarist Spike Cassidy was recently "diagnosed with colon cancer and was operated on three weeks ago. Sadly the concern is that [the cancer] spread and the medical treatment is [required immediately] and it prohibits any touring for the remainder of the year at least."
D.R.I.'s U.S. tour was scheduled to kick off May 22 in Seattle, Washington.

Ah fuck, I was absolutely stoked about seeing them in Seattle. I've been a fan since the 80's and this was going to be my first DRI show. I hope Spike gets better!

All the best. One of my all time favorite punk bands. Dirty Rotten lp and Dealing with it-absolute classics, as well as the crossover stuff thereafter. I was going to see them for the first time in Hartford. But I'm sure he'll pull through.

I caught DRI a little over 10 years ago at a club with Acid Bath opening. GREAT show!!! Spike tossed a couple picks my way. Great guy.
This guy deserves a benefit to help him do whatever it takes to beat this crap.
Let's not lose another legend in such a small amount of time.

Spike was always the coolest guy in that band. Both times I saw them, he came out and hung out with the fans before and after their set and signed everything handed to him with a big smile on his face -- he obviously knows having so many people admire you is rare and he enjoys every second of it. I hope he pulls through OK, he deserves a long life for all the good times he's given us.

wow. cancer is a fucking monster. I've seen it destroy too many good people. most of my relatives that have died throughout my lifetime have been victims of cancer. it runs on both sides of my family. I'm sure its how I'll go. the grim truth is that unless it is caught in the earliest stages, colon cancer is 90% terminal. I'm sure Spike has some good doctors working with him. hopefully, he was able to catch this in time and is getting the treatment that he needs to beat it. hang in there, man. you gotta pull through this. stay strong.

I can't believe so many great musicians are falling prey to cancer. How fucking shitty. D.R.I. fucking rule, one of my all-time favourite, I love all of their albums.

over 8 yrs ago my Granny was diagnosed w/ the same thing and went through surgery and kemo etc.. she just turned 82 w/ a clean bill of health. wishing a fast recovery for ya.
