DUFF MCKAGAN On Touring With ALICE IN CHAINS: 'It's A Band I've Always Wanted To Play In' - Apr. 26, 2006
VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) has confirmed to RollingStone.com that he will be playing second guitar for ALICE IN CHAINS at the opening gig of AIC's upcoming world tour, which is scheduled to kick off May 18 at L.A.'s Roxy.

"These guys are my bros from way back, and for me it's kind of a dream come true to play with ALICE IN CHAINS," McKagan said. McKagan will be joining the band for selected gigs, including England's Download festival. "It's a band I've always wanted to play in," he added. "I played with them in their first gig in L.A. I got up and played 'Man in a Box'."

COMES WITH THE FALL vocalist William DuVall, who will be touring with the band full-time as a guest vocalist, is also thrilled to join the group. He and Cantrell actually became friends on tour around the time — April 2002 — when founding ALICE vocalist Layne Staley died of a drug overdose.

"Cantrell and I suffered through touring through Layne's death and the aftermath of that," says DuVall. "We were on the road, so that was something I experienced in very close proximity to him. One of the first gigs we did was at the Key Arena in Seattle right after Layne had died. It was a really emotional thing. So you go through those kinds of things together, and when something like this comes up it kind of settles the score a bit."

Hehe, Guns 'N Roses (or at least the pathetic excuse for that band) is playing in Nijmegen this summer. Alice in Chains will open for them... Maybe this opens a door to re-uniting the real Guns 'N Roses.

"— when founding ALICE vocalist Layne Staley died of a drug overdose."

They had to toss that in, because nobody reading about AIC would know that, would they?

Why do people keep pissing them selfs over Layne? Yeah he was a great singer, but he killed him self and ruined everyone's career in the long run it's not everyone in the bands fault he chose to kill himself. And besides, Jerry wrote almost all the lyrics anyways Jerry was allways the backbone of the band.

Don't you even realize actually "why" ppl keep "pissing themselves" over Layne????!

Layne had more charisma than most ppl have throughout their
entire bodies.

Unfortunately for the rest of them; Layne stole Most ppls hearts.
I'm not just talking women - but guys too. And I don't mean in a gay way either. Musically -- he was very AMAZING.

How many times do I have to repeat myself. Even Jerry Cantrell says/said so himself.

Don't get me wrong -- Jerry is great -- but the 2 of them are what really MADE the alice sound.

Sure, I agree with ThrashLV -- in a way -- Jerry WAS the backbone. Layne was (most) everything else.

JERRY ALWAYS LED THE BAND OUT RIGHT AS MUCH AS HE COULD. BUT IT WAS LAYNE WHO LED SILENTLY NOT BY CHOICE BUT BY PURE ACCIDENT BECAUSE HE HAD THE STYLE AND CHARM TO DO SO WITHOUT EVER TRYING.

Not too many ppl have that kind of quality. Jerry's charm does strike hard; but not like Layne or otherwise he wouldn't of had the low volume response in his solo career. It doesn't mean that he "sucks". FOR SOME REASON, HE HASN'T STUCK OUT LIKE LAYNE HAD DONE....maybe he still can.....
