GODSMACK On Track To Debut At No. 1

According to Hits Daily Double, GODSMACK's latest CD, "IV", is on track to sell more than 200,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 1 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. The official sales figures and chart positions will be released a week from today (May 3).
GODSMACK's upcoming North American tour (set to kick off in September) will be a three-band package, featuring an as-yet-undisclosed co-headliner (rumored to be ROB ZOMBIE) and an opening act, to be announced at a later date. The band will perform tonight (Wednesday, April 26) on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and Friday (April 28) on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

...to the new CD before you bash it...it is actually pretty good, it is a bit more mellow or bluesy then old school Godsmack, but it is a different record, which is a change for the better...I actually purchased this album, and it was worth the $10 or what ever I spent @ Target...like I said give it a listen before you bash the fuck out of it.

I prefer Lords of Salem to all other Zombie songs on that disc.
I don't like Godsmack. They are too redneck trailer trash for me. I like Elton John, Liberace, and Freddie Mercury.

i thought everyone was going to say that i was wrong and that i was a nu metal listening kid. i don't know about godsmack i have never bought their cd, once i saw a video of theirs and it had been taken in a prison of some place like that and that was a long time ago.

Like them or not like them, one thing cannot be disputed:
Godsmack are slick, glossy US metal. They are built for MTV2 and for airplay. They fit into the same boat as Disturbed: aggressive enough, but with enough sheen to appeal to masses of people.
Godsmack are tailor-built for the American market.

let's see a heavy hard rockin band reaches #1 instead of some no talent rapper and that's a bad thing? just because your no talent bands don't write songs that average person can listen to is no reason to hate a band that does and reaches the top. what other rock band has done that lately? oh that's right it was nickelback another band that writes music people can actualy understand but they don't count either right? well in the words of the new godsmack you are the enemy!

and they're better than 99% of the current rock scene today. The new album is good and goes a slightly different direction. Hollow is the key track. The female backing vox are superb.

I've always kind of liked Godsmack, but they are in no way metal - or nu metal for that matter. More like a rough edged hard rock band that doesn't completely suck.
Oh, and by the way, to the guy who said something about the "no talent bands that cant write songs that the average person can listen to", just because a band does not hit on the billboard charts, or sell lots of records, does not mean they "have no talent". Truth of it is, most of the bands on the billboard chart ARE the ones who are untalented, writing simplistic music that requires virtually no skill that appeals to the mindless masses. Truth hurts kiddies. The average person just follows the herd, like sheep for example.
Record sales do not equate talent. And simplicity sure as hell does not equate talent either - it's actually the oppisite of technical skill. If you wanna hear TALENTED MUSIC, listen to some Cynic, Death, Athiest, Dream Theater or Nevermore. Then we can talk about talent.

I had a feeling this was gonna happen but thats what happens when all the major record lables are in bed with the Radio companies there stuff gets air time where a lot of bands that blow Godsmacks stuff out of the water don't get much or no air time at all so the radio compaines limits what gets heard over here( its not how good you are its who you know and blow and lay down the biggest wad of cash) combine that with the majority of people to jump on band wagons so they can fit in and and you get a decent but not the best band coming out on top.
Look at lacuna coil i wonder how many fans are true fans and not just listening to them because its trendy? think about it.

I have always been a closet Godsmack fan, but I have always found them to be quite repetitive in nature; same riffs rehashed over and over and over tends to drive one mad.
On their new album "IV" it is a much smoother, bluesy type apeal as mentioned in one of the posts above.
However I still have some beefs with the new record: Too Much use of the Wah Wah for many of the solo's in which makes them seem sloppy and half-assed. Not enough emphasis on making enough of those hard rocking anthems Godsmack is known for. This is definitley not a Metal album by any stretch, and could be considered that Godsmack has gone soft.
However change was neccessary and IV definitley adds alittle variety to the bunch. I definitley will say that Godsmack is no where near the greatest band in the world, they are average at best.

Ok so they aren't my favorite band, but they do kick ass live (lots of visuals and soloing) and they do make some catchy stuff. Of course most members here are divided between good and bad comments about the band. They aren't metal, Id call em alt rock, but in that case you can't expect them to be all "death metal" screaming incoherent violent lyrics that complain about pretty much everything in general, can you? Wait until Nevermore or Dimmu Borgir get famous, which probably will never happen, and all you people will complain about them too. P.S. yea bands like cynic, death, and atheist sound so talented...I love all these bands with names that are so trite and attempt to be anomalies: death death kill your mother I hate minorities Im a white boy who grew up in the suburbs and my mommy and daddy loved me but Im going to pretend like I was ostracized and hated my whole life. Gimme a break man...grow the fuck up, everyone gets picked on...loose the nail polish. If you care to repost a fuck you, Ill gladly take it just remember to put ur actions where ur mouth is, and because you "mosh" dont make you tough, if u dont even know what a gym is then ur just like all the other pseudo-fronters who cant bench more than 10 pounds.

When you have the cash that Godsmack have it's easy to buy the radio stations time to play their shit constantly. That song 'I Stand Alone' is the suckiest tune, yet it gets major airplay. Oh, and please don't put Dimmu Borgir comparisons out there!
They would shit down Godsmacks throats and pound them with their musical might, so shut up already....Hail!

I got the cd right away.. Way different than any other of their cd's. Love voodoo too..
I dont really see how the simplicity of a song or guitar riff would be the way to measure a bands talent.. dont care if they sound a bit like AIC either.. bottom line is that theyre a good band.
