SLAYER Confirmed For U.K.'s READING And LEEDS Festivals

Thrash metal kings SLAYER are among the latest names to be added to the bill for the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds festivals, set to take place August 25-27 at Reading's Richfield Avenue and Leeds' Bramham Park in the United Kingdom. Also confirmed for the summer event are AUDIOSLAVE, PEARL JAM and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, among many others. More information is available at NME.com. SLAYER — Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitars), Jeff Hanneman (guitars), and Dave Lombardo (drums) — have finished recording tracks for their as-yet-untitled new album, due out this fall, and have commenced the mixing process. This album is the first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss" that features the entire original SLAYER lineup (drummer Lombardo left the band in 1992 and rejoined in 2003). Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated SLAYER sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", is executive-producing, and Josh Abraham ( KORN, VELVET REVOLVER, ATREYU) is producing. Working songtitles include "Catalyst", "Cult", "Catatonic", "Jihad", "Eyes of the Insane", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy". The SLAYER-headlined "Unholy Alliance Tour - Preaching to the Perverted" will kick off on June 6 in San Diego, CA. The seven-week trek boasts what has got to be the genre's coolest line-up — joining SLAYER will be LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON and CHILDREN OF BODOM (who will rotate the second and third slots), and THINE EYES BLEED, who will open the shows.

Slayer at the Reading festival??? I thought Maiden were an unusual choice last year but this is just fucking bizarre! All credit to them for giving it a go but I can`t see them going down well with all the indie kids that`ll be there!!

Slayer are legends...face it haters, few of the bands you *do* like would even exist if it wasn`t for them.
Saying that though, they haven`t offered much in the last decade or so. Slayer were my favourite band in the 80`s and I still think their 83-90 albums are as good as metal gets but...it seems their best days are behind them. Hopefully they`ll prove me wrong in June...

Slayer for kids?? I may be wrong but hasnt Slayer been around since 1980/81!! how many 13 years olds do you see in Slayer t-shirts??? not many!! Slayer's fan base ranges from 40ish and down, with the majority being 33 years of age...and those are the facts!! I know this is a little off the subject but, lately I've had an urge to bite the bumpy shit on Lemmy's face...I don't know what it is. I love Motorhead and Lemmy is the man, I just wanna know what that shit is on his face. I figure if I put some mustard on it its gotta taste good everything tastes good with mustard.
Btw, Slayers first 5 albums (including HTC E.P.) are awesome and every Metal fan should own atleast three out of the 5 everything after that I could take it or leave it. Just being honest folks.

considering this is online, you should be able to quickly and correctly CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE POSTING. Slayer attracts fans of all ages, yes. Slayer influenced many bands, enjoy huge success still- not many can say that. Slayer did NOT invent Thrash, but they were a FOREFATHER. Try buying a dictionary and looking that up. Also, what the fuck does everyone keep talking about NU metal for when it died ten years ago??????? I havent heard a rap metal band (which IS nu metal) in YEARS

Dude, I'm not defending anyone just stating the facts. A festival is totally different than a tour. A festival is "usually" a bill of bands that differ somewhat within the rock/metal genre which only lasts a day or two (European festivals) as opposed to a tour where you going to see that band (and probably hang out with) on a continuous basis for whatever how long it may be. Besides, let's say Slayer did hang out and play with MCR does that really affect Slayer's credibility? I sure don't think so. For all we know MCD are huge Slayer fans. Really, Who cares just as long as you like the music and are true to yourself and not pretending cause you think it's cool. I listen to Matchbox 20 and Obituary you think I care what anybody thinks they could all go fuck themselves.

its afestival tths one of the beauty's hehe about afestival in britainor europe they have some fests tht r so diverse its weird. so hopefully slayer do their job n attract new ppl. how else do u want metal tob big if u are'nt ngnna get new ppl to listen to it just cause its good not cause they r bein "posers" - slayer r'nt selling out they're just to play aa 2date festvial (its 3 days but 2 for them) n they r gnna blow ppl away for sure =]
i think reading/leeds do this deliberatly course they were'nt targetting the festival at ppl who listen to metal thts y it sold out os fast , now a metal group is a big one is booked along with mastodon, they're plan is to make it diverse n get other ppl intot ht music by convertin mcr fans. only way thoses kids r gnna boycott mcr's music hehehe. n e ways the line up in general is weak with some exceptions thoguh but meh ::)

a festival is completely different than a tour, bands get invited to play on festivals by the organizers, tours mean certain respect and interest for the bands you tour with
besides i don't see what's wrong with them playing this festival, sure it's a bit akward, but you can't keep playing to the same crowd
