BLACK SABBATH: Previously Unheard Track Posted Online - Apr. 28, 2006
Rockdetector.com is hosting an entire chapter from Garry Sharpe-Young's new "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" book at this location.

The chapter in question deals with the mystery surrounding David Donato's term of duty with BLACK SABBATH in 1985. Speaking exclusively to Garry Sharpe-Young, Donato (together with comments from other band members) details exactly how long he worked with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The chapter also contains a link to a BLACK SABBATH recording never previously heard, the only such song aired to feature the Donato / Iommi / Butler / Ward lineup.

Says author Garry Sharpe-Young: "I was kindly sent a ton of audio material whilst putting this book together, some fascinating unheard stuff. Because of the pervading interest in those pre-'Seventh Star' mystery years, I've asked David for his permission to air a portion of this track. SABBATH fans will take about two seconds to recognize it. This is a rehearsal (complete with original tape hiss) recorded in 1985, but the song was later used on an album, with totally different lyrics and melody, much later on. I'm not putting up the other demo songs, approximately half a dozen tracks, because those have not been used yet and, you never know, Tony Iommi might still have a use for those riffs! By the way, please don't ask — none of this is for trade or sale in any form. It gives a valuable pointer to what SABBATH might possibly have sounded like. The chapter I've put online comes after Ron Keel's audition tape was rejected and before Jeff Fenholt got his shot. It makes for fascinating reading."

"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" contains exclusive interview content with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Cozy Powell, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen, Tony Martin, Geoff Nicholls, Rob Halford, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, Carmine Appice, Tommy Aldridge, Neil Murray, Dave Spitz, Eric Singer, David Donato, Jeff Fenholt, Bobby Rondinelli, Rudy Sarzo, Phil Soussan, Randy Castillo, Bernie Torme, Brad Gillis, Jo Burt, Pete Way, Dana Strum, Terry Chimes, Lita Ford, Steve Vai, Don Airey, Lindsey Bridgewater, Terry Nails and many, many more, plus exclusive photographs of BLACK SABBATH and the Ozzy band onstage, backstage and in the studio.

The 442-page book is is available NOW at Amazon.com.

is really interesting. The song is "The Shining" I have no idea what it is called with the different lyrics, however it is the Shining. Has anyone ever heard the "Eternal Idol" album with Ray Gillen singing all of the songs? This was done, and then redone with Tony Martin finally seeing the light of day on the album. I like Ray better myself. He was a good singer.

How Cool is that?!!!! Although, at that point Iommi was putting out some shitty stuff, so how bad is this if it wasn't released. Somehow Sharon the Pig must be getting something out of this B-Side. That Bitch need to be Fucked by her fat junkie kid. How could one person ruin both Ozzy's career and Sabbath's career at the same time? Not sionce Yoko Ono has a bitch ruined some brilliant musicians. The book should be pretty good.

are remarkably identical on the Eternal Idol material. If I was to choose and its hard to do so I'd still go with Martin simply because Tony Martin went on and did a fabulous job on the following Sabbath material. Amazing vocalists both though. R.I.P. Ray gillen. absolutley love post OOzzy Black Sabbath metal would not be what it is today with out all this post Ozzy material. Looking forward to the new Dio/Iommi tracks.

My favorite album is Born Again. TYR and The Headless Cross are awesome!!! All the way through. Way better than hearing "War Pigs" yet one more damn time. Too bad they don't get to play any of these songs.

If you're a Sabbath or Iommi Fan, this book is a must have!!!! We've all heard/read enough about the Ozzy years, and I really could care less about rehashing all that crap.

It's the Dio....Gillan....and then the "Other" guys that lasted here and there, that is the amazing stuff. One can only imagine what all Tony has locked away in the vault as far as recordings!

I agree I'll bet he does have some killer shit locked away just waiting for us to get ahold of it. Reissue and put out that stuff. Not all the same 70's shit.

Distribution here in the US for his Ozzy book and the Sabbath book could've been done in the back of a Yugo. By the time the Ozzy book could be finally gotten in the US, Sahron had given the OK for everybody and their brother to put out a book on Ozzy. The market was flooded, and 1/2 off it was carp anyway. So combined it with his other Sabbath book, and then included the OTHER Sabbath singers!

Please don't think this guy is just trying to milk something, he's a legit author who happens to love the music we do!

The best part of the book is that Feinholt moron who is always on those Church shows saying he was a member of Sabbath and the years of touring led him to SIN!

Absolutely love the Ray Gillen version of Eternal Idol. I like the official Tony Martin version too, but like gillen's better. Ever heard Gillen sing live with Sabbath? Amazing! On another note, here is yet another time where I as a blind person am not able to hear the audio mentioned in a story because it is on a fucking Myspace page that I can't get to work with my screen reading software. I couldn't hear the Devolved demo tracks, and I can't hear the Donato Sabbath demo. Fucking frustrating! I know you guys don't care about my problems, but I just had to vent.

Yes, I've heard Ray Gillens version of Eternal Idol and hi is done a great job, but I'm fan of Tony Martin and he is just crushing vocaly that and every other Sabbath album with his voice on it!
Sabbath reunion with Ozzy is one of worst dicisions that Iommi could make!
Just imagine how many great albums Martin-Iommi might make in more that 10 years (last Black Sabbath studio album came out in 1995.)!
And those years are just wasted!

TONY MARTIN RULES!!!!

I've only just been getting into the post-Ozzy Sabbath over the last 6 months or so, and I gotta say that I'm very impressed. The Dio stuff is just classic, and Martin has a really nice voice. I'm definitely gunna track some more of the stuff down.
