PANTERA: 'Behind The Music' Special To Include New Interviews, 'Shocking' Alrosa Villa Video
- Apr. 29, 2006
|
|
|
BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received more information about the upcoming VH1 "Behind the Music" special on PANTERA, which has a premiere date of May 11. According to Dan Masek, who worked on the program as a segment producer, the show will include brand new interviews with the surviving members of PANTERA — Vinnie Paul Abbott (drums), Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) — along with appearances by Guy Sykes (tour manager), Walter O'Brien (manager), Terry Date (producer), about five members of PANTERA's/DAMAGEPLAN's crew, and Rita Haney ("Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's girlfriend). "We also have a few special guests that will be appearing in the show," Masek told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "This includes other musicians who were friends with PANTERA as well as some people who were closely involved in the Alrosa Villa shooting. The episode also features shocking video and police dispatch/911 calls from the tragic night of the shooting."
"Behind the Music: Pantera" will premiere on Thursday, May 11 at 10:00 p.m. Check local listings for more information.
PANTERA's career overview CD, "The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!" (Elektra/Rhino), was certified platinum on January 13, 2006 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of one million copies in the U.S.
The 16-song "Vulgar Hits!" CD, originally issued in September 2003, was packaged with a bonus DVD boasting 12 videos, including two live performances. The bulk of the material was culled from the band's six major-label releases, but also included were non-album cuts "Cat Scratch Fever" (a cover of the TED NUGENT song that originally appeared on the Polygram soundtrack to "Detroit Rock City") and the BLACK SABBATH cover "Hole in the Sky", previously available only on import.
PANTERA's classic "Vulgar Display of Power" (Elektra) album was certified double-platinum in 2004, signifying shipments of more than 2,000,000 units in the U.S. since its February 25, 1992 release.
Rhino Video earlier in the month released PANTERA's "3 Vulgar Videos From Hell" — a three-DVD set featuring all the band's videos as well as live footage shot during the Monsters of Rock gig in Moscow. Originally released on DVD in 1999, this version features the same content with improved menus and all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. In fact, it is the first PANTERA release ever in 5.1 Surround Sound. It features: "Cowboys From Hell The Videos", "Vulgar Video", "3 Watch It Go", and "Pantera Live From Monsters of Rock In Moscow".

...to see how much the edit of this show will make either Phil or Vinnie responsible for Dime's death. The editors over there are sooo good, they made Mustiane look like an angel on the Behind The Music: Megadeth.

were great. Too bad it turned out like this. But you know, I saw dime and Vin talk just as much shit about Phil. They were constantly putting his dirty laundry out for everyone to see, instead of trying to throw some help towards his problem. For him to sit there acting like it was solely Anselmo's fault is disgusting. At least Phil's tried to bury the hatchet.

As individuals, some of the members of Nevermore might be more proficient on their instruments than some of the members of Pantera......
-BUT-
.....as a band and as songwriters Pantera wins for sure!
I've really, really tried to get into that last Nevermore album (the music is great and Jeff Loomis shreds) but I can't get into that over-dramatic, too much vibrato, pseudo operatic, post-Geoff Tate vocal thing......it gives me douche chills.......
Just a matter of preference I guess.
CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the footage will be the same stuff that has been online for the last year and a half. It doesn't show Dime being shot, its heard off camera. Either way, I don't think it needs to be apart of the show.

"Either way, I don't think it needs to be apart of the show."
It doesn't really matter, though... I mean, like you say, you don't actually SEE anything, it's just a bunch of chaos.
"it's not really fair if they're going to show part of a Damageplan concert & no Down or SJR"
Don't be surprised if this is HEAVILY geared towards Dime, such as any ACDC will be geared towards Bon.

Bands like Pantera and Meshuggah are not true metal. This POWER metal was done long before Pantera. Stephen Pearcy and the boys brough GOOD TRUE metal to the realm of our society with the debut album and so did the Crue. The old POWER METAL stuff from Pantera was not that good. The other two records without Phil were horrible. Dimebag was a great whammy bar dude like Satch but when it came to pumping out great rythem, he could not hold a candle to Warren DiMartini or Mick Mars. I know, you all think Mick Mars is lame but let me tell you that Dimebag LOVED Motley Crue. The music that Pantera sang was too harsh and IN YOUR FACE. You wanted that music to LEAVE. I guarantee you I got more chicks with my RATT and MOTLEY CRUE music than I ever would have with Pantera. Most Pantera fans don't get chicks. I know, that sounds lame but it's a fact. The only good song Pantera produced was This Love. That's the song where Dimebag played out of TWO SPEAKERS. Let Pantera die with Dimebag in dignity. Nobody should EVER do a Pantera tribute on VH1. Eddie Van Halen would agree.

Dime wasnt as good as Mick Mars? What planet are you from, dude? I think I speak for alot of people here that liked Pantera specifically for their harsh, in your face attitude. And who needs music to get girls? Thats statement you made doesnt even have any relevance here.

i agree w/the footage n shit from that night. i don't wanna see it. i don't wanna hear the 911 call i made EVER AGAIN. it was fucking horrible. every time i turned on the tv i heard my voice & the gunshots in the background. the whole thing fucked my head up for months. i'm not watching it. i doubt many people who were there will. i think the vinnie paul will cause it's all about rebelmeetsrebel now. it's just business. that sorta sucks, cause i don't think they'd be getting this show if dime hadn't been murdered. i guess VP's gotta move on w/his life n his work, though. & he's gotta get back in "the machine" to promote his new shit.

I got a sinking feeling in my heart just from reading the description of the show, so i don't wanna watch it, i don't wanna get that "it just happened" feeling back, there was ONE december 9th 2004, and that's ENOUGH. Yeah he died the 8th, but the day after was the real shocker of it all sinking in... :(
