ALICE IN CHAINS Confirm Japanese Tour Dates - Apr. 29, 2006
The reunited ALICE IN CHAINS are scheduled to take part in one of Japan's biggest music festivals — the Udo Music Festival. Set over two days in two different locations, the Udo Music Festival features dozens of acts and about 50,000 concert-goers. And for the first time ever, AIC will be part of the madness. On July 22, the band will play at the Fuji International Speedway and then on July 23 they will perform at the Festival's other location, the Osaka Izumi Otsu Phoenix.

As previously reported, ALICE IN CHAINS have confirmed the five dates and cities for its U.S. mini-tour next month, beginning on May 18 in Los Angeles and ending on the 23 in New York City. The shows will all take place in either small clubs or theatres. These gigs and a previously announced date at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August are the only announced North American shows for the reunited group so far, with European festival dates on tap for June and July. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney will be joined on vocals by COMES WITH THE FALL frontman William DuVall. However, surprise guest vocalists and musicians are expected to show up at each of the five U.S. dates, with bassist Duff McKagan (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) already rumored to be coming along as a second guitarist.

It's been 10 years since the last official performance by ALICE IN CHAINS before the 2002 death of singer Layne Staley, and Mike Inez told Launch Radio Networks that the group's fans have waited long enough for them to play again. "Not to put a time limit on it, but if it was 10 years, you know, I think we needed that time to put some space in between it," he said. "It just feels right, and we're coming from a pure spot, and it's just more of a celebration of our music we created. Just one more time around the world. We're gonna bring it to the people and everyone's invited."

The surviving members of the band played together for the first time since 1996 at a Seattle tsunami benefit in February of 2005. They regrouped again in March for a taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!", at which plans for more touring and a possible new album were first revealed.

Why is it that every time these stories mention Will DuVall they feel the need to thrown in the "however, surprise guest vocalists and musicians are expected to show up at each of the five U.S. dates" comment?

Jerry chose Will, what other proof do you need that he's the right man for the job...

Its not AIC, its like Nirvana without Kurt, or The Jimi Hendrix Experience without Jimi. Its like saying Audioslave is RATM. I respect them, but i seriously think they need to change the name. Look at G'n'R

I dunno. Layne was a huge part of the band, but in the long run, it was mostly Jerry's band, considering he wrote almost all the music, and a lot of the lyrics, so I think ultimately he has the final say on what to keep the band name as. It's almost like saying Van Halen isn't Van Halen without David Lee Roth, or something. If there was no Jerry Cantrell, then I would say there is no Alice in Chains, and they'd have to change the name. Otherwise, it's a tough issue to debate.

Maybe I'm not making sense or anything, but I'm really happy they are actually playing shows again. It should be cool.

I agree with south_of_heaven. It was really always Jerry's band, not Layne's. I mean Jerry wrote like 80% of the songs and did a lot of singing too. But still, I'm not too keen on Jerry getting a new lead singer altogether. I think Jerry should take over on lead vocals, and then they hire someone else to play rhythm guitar and sing the harmonies, that way it's not so much of a replacement.

THe remaining AIC members already stated that there's no future for the band under this name ... and that this is sort of a farewell tour in honor of Layne and to play in front of fans that never had a chance to see 'em.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have announced that THE BEATLES are doing 8 shows in Japan, blah blah blah...

....oh by the way John and George won't make it.

Just call the band something different like Unchained Alice or something. It ain't Burger King if there ain't no Whopper.

Deep Purple is one of the worst offenders of the deceiving name game, as most people who go to the show don't know who's in the band this year. All they know is that the repertoire will be played well and at high volume with plenty of weed and alcohol, so....... rock on, brother! Wooooo!

For the VH1 Classic Heart show, they are only including Phil's performance of Would? and the Performance of "Rooster" with William Duvall. They cut out Man in the Box and Them Bones with Phil. You will be able to buy the DVD I hear though, if you want the whole thing. I do not see this as a full time thing either, This is a farewell thing probaly. I just wish they had Layne.
Do not know if you guys have watched this short, here is the link.

.....Stonecro ~ "Alice N Chains" was Layne's band before the "Alice IN Chains" as we know them, came along.....the name, the sun logo, were Layne's creations.....

This is all temporary anyway, so no sense getting all hyper about it.....

And until anyone sees a show, then ya can't condemn it......

Due to the Decades show being about Heart, and not AIC, the AIC segments were reduced to 2 songs.....get the DVD, when it comes out, for the whole performance......

"Jerry says that he doesn't rule out a new album.
so maybe your the fucking idiot"

I assume you mean "you're" ? Find me a quote in which he actually says so then.... apart from the obvious interview in which he says he doesn't rule out writing new material while touring. In every interview Ive read, the writer 'hints' at a new album, but none of the aic-members are actually quoted as saying it.

Example:
------------------
In the words of Jerry Cantrell, "There will be some Alice in Chains shows this year — that's a fact."

There may even be a new record from the grunge rockers, who've been idle for close to 10 years.
At this point, the guitarist said, all he can really say is that the band is active, and that the remaining members of Alice — himself, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney — will be taking the stage this summer to perform songs from the band's catalog."
--------------------

In case you can provide me with better info, let me know, in the meantime I'll be tutoring other idiots.

Dirt is Alice in Chains' major artistic statement and the closest they ever came to recording a flat-out masterpiece. It's a primal, sickening howl from the depths of Layne Staley's heroin addiction, and one of the most harrowing concept albums ever recorded. Not every song on Dirt is explicitly about heroin, but Jerry Cantrell's solo-written contributions effectively maintain the thematic coherence -- nearly every song is imbued with the morbidity, self-disgust, and/or resignation of a self-aware yet powerless addict. Cantrell's technically limited but inventive guitar work is by turns explosive, textured, and queasily disorienting, keeping the listener off balance with atonal riffs and off-kilter time signatures. Staley's stark confessional lyrics are similarly effective, and consistently miserable. Sometimes he's just numb and apathetic, totally desensitized to the outside world; sometimes his self-justifications betray a shockingly casual amorality; his moments of self-recognition are permeated by despair and suicidal self-loathing. Even given its subject matter, Dirt is monstrously bleak, closely resembling the cracked, haunted landscape of its cover art. The album holds out little hope for its protagonists (aside from the much-needed survival story of "Rooster," a tribute to Cantrell's Vietnam-vet father), but in the end, it's redeemed by the honesty of its self-revelation and the sharp focus of its music.
(Hate to Feel", features vocals by Tom Araya of Slayer, who the band brought in so he could provide an Angel of Death scream)(Some versions, including the European release, feature "Down in a Hole" as the second last track instead of the fourth one. This was due to an early error, where putting Down in a Hole as the second to last track disrupts the storyline of this semi-concept album about addiction.)
