JUDAS PRIEST Frontman ROB HALFORD's Catalog To Be Remastered, Reissued
- Apr. 29, 2006
|
|
|
According to a posting on JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford's official web site, the singer's catalog will be remastered and reissued with bonus material this summer. The HALFORD band has issued two full-length studio albums — "Resurrection" (2000) and "Crucible" (2002) — plus a live album, "Live Insurrection" (2001). Further details are expected to be revealed the week of May 15 when there will be "an exciting news update."
JUDAS PRIEST have announced that they are creating their first conceptual album based upon the life and predictions of Nostradamus. The CD will be theatrically staged and performed in its entirety as an epic musical by JUDAS PRIEST. A 2007 release is expected.
JUDAS PRIEST will be taking part in the first annual "VH1 Rock Honors", the first-ever show to pay homage to the legends who influenced the sound of hard rock. This year's celebration will honor the music and influence of PRIEST, KISS, QUEEN and DEF LEPPARD. Premiering on Wednesday, May 31 at 9:00 p.m., "VH1 Rock Honors" will be taped at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Thursday, May 25 and will include tribute performances by FOO FIGHTERS and THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS. Additional performers, presenters, and special guests will be announced as they are confirmed.

I already have both Halford studio albums.
How about reissuing and remastering the FIGHT albums? Well, at least "War of Words" anyway, because that was a great metal record.

Crucible would have been incredible if not for the total shit production job. So instead of just saying ok, we dropped the ball with that one, he's just doing both to make it seem like more of an event.

but..... the first fight album was just ok then they sucked, forget about that two shit i dont want to even think about that garbage then in 2000 finally he gives us ressurection, then crucible wich was just ok as stated above the production was awful. so in all ressurection was what should have been the follow up priest album to painkiller the way i saw it. RESSURECTION was the ONLY good thing halford did while away from priest for 13 years................

All of Halford's post-Priest stuff was great, including Two. He's an amazing vocalist and really picks his projects well. Not sure if it's worth it to dole out the extra cash to get albums I already own, though. Oh well, can't wait for the new Priest album.

Iron Maiden need to re-issue their first cd, Steve always complains about how the production made it a weaker cd. Well get in their and re record it and then sell it. As much re hash Maiden puts out, I would think this would be a no brainer

Maiden thinks the production on their first album weakened it?? The production is one of the things that made it their best album ever. If anything, after that they got rid of the raw, heavy sound and replaced it with production that neutered a lot of their music. Maiden remained great, but I'd kill to know what they would have sounded like had they kept that original production style.

I didn't think the production on Fight was bad for its day but it could use the boost now. Awesome stuff from Rob back then. Probably pick these up as well though.

Am I the only person here who thinks that when an album is finished it' s finished. Meaning simply : When an album is out, that' s it. You' re not going to remaster and re-release it . I can understand that Jimmy Page wanted to remaster the Zeppelin records, that makes SOME sense because those records were done in the seventies. Not that there would have been anything wrong with them, but it' s true that by remastering those old records he managed to give them some new spark. The same with Black Sabbath. But if someone fucking makes a record and releases it, then gets it remastered and released again just a couple of years after the original release, well that' s just insane. Unless that someone would be willing to give the remastered version away for free. What, can Halford really sell the same album twice for his most fanatic fans ? That would be great for any artist. " Buy this. " And a couple of years later : " Buy it again. " Incredible.

But the point is, people just should do proper job at the first time. Black Sabbath released vinyl albums and I don' t think there were anything wrong with the sound of them. How hard it could have been to transfer that music to CD-discs without any fuck-ups ? They' re old records, they' re not supposed to sound like they were made yesterday. Basically, I think that a record is what it is and if you remaster it that' s not the original record anymore. Sometimes the end result of remastering really sounds great, that' s true, but the basic idea behind the whole thing is to sell the same albums to the same people twice. Like : " In the seventies they could not get the sound they actually wanted. " Yeah right. It' s a seventies record and sounds like it, what' s wrong with that ?

Because when you slap the word "Remaster" on something, people are more likely to buy it. It's about money.

and also all these "best of" and "greatest hits"... i love maiden, rush, etc but come on, why a new dvd every year? most bands out there are dried up from their glory days... priest, maiden, rush, etc can still produce good new music when they want to..
a lot of bands just play the same songs over the last 20 years or so..
i never for the rest of my life need to hear breakin the law, the trooper, tom sawyer.. etc live... they get so old
but i'll still go to any of these bands shows as long as it's not ozzfest

Both Halford albums sounded good the first time around. Remastering them again seems pointless from a consumer's point of view. On the other hand, I can only see this if there was a limited supply being pressed when the albums first came out....
