SLIPKNOT Guitarist MICK THOMSON: Audio Of Wisconsin Clinic Available For Download - May 4, 2006
An hour-long audio recording of SLIPKNOT guitarist Mick Thomson's guitar clinic at Cascio Interstate Music in New Berlin, WI on May 1, 2006 has been made available for download at this location. The audio features Mick giving tips about technique, how to improve playing, information on different types of guitars and amps, and playing along to a couple of tracks from SLIPKNOT's 2004 album "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

Thomson is in the middle of a five-city guitar clinic tour, during which he hopes to create an intimate setting for interacting with his fans, as well as unveiling his new custom-designed Ibanez MTM1 Mick Thomson signature electric guitar.

The MTM1 was custom designed to Mick's exact specifications, including his choice of pickups, strings and bridge. The guitar arrives from the factory in Mick's preferred tuning of C# with a dropped B.

The clinic tour, which started in Wisconsin and ends in California, allows Mick to show fans some of SLIPKNOT's signature riffs as well as answer questions and sign autographs for all in attendance.

Says Mick of the clinic: "It's not just for the virtuosos out there and it's not going to be an hour of showing off licks. I'm hoping it's helpful to players and non-players alike."

All clinics start at 7:00 p.m. and the remaining dates are as follows:

May 05 - Musician's Discount - Miami, FL (305-255-9466)
May 08 - Hermes Trading Co. - San Antonio, TX (210-348-7225)
May 10 - Instrumental Music - Ventura, CA (805-654-9388)

For more information, visit Ibanez.com.

SLIPKNOT capped off an amazing two years on February 8 by winning their first Grammy Award, in the category of "Best Metal Performance", for "Before I Forget" from "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

SLIPKNOT has been nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for six consecutive years, but never took home the Grammy until now.

The band went on hiatus at the end of 2005 after nearly 18 months on the road in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are now recording the second album from their other band, STONE SOUR, while percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan will make a new album with his side project, TO MY SURPRISE. Drummer Joey Jordison will tour this spring and summer with MINISTRY.

I can learn how to play 3 note riffs too?! Awesome! I've been looking for a way to worsen my skill for some years now, but now I've finally found the clinic for me. I'll be able to play along with Slipknot now.

HAHAHAHA

WTF?!? I've actually been to New Berlin. It's a truckstop. McDonald's, 2 gas stations, and a dairy farm. June '89. 17 years old. Car broke down, sat in New Berlin for 3 hours before some dude would use his truck to push start my car with the dead starter....

New Berlin sucks.

dear IFuckedYourSister

he writes shitty music for his band slipknot, he probably is a good guitarist, but keeps the guitar parts simple in slipknot for the overall music quality

His band may not be as good, but MIck is ONE HELL OF A GUITARIST!!! I have to admit. He should move on and play in some death/thrash metal outfit. It would really suit his image and playing.

Mick isnt a GREAT guitar player but alot of people on here do not know what he can of do. Just imagine yourself doing world tour's and having to play guitar atleast an hour a day, i swear even if it's Slipknot playing a riff with a little bit of trilling in the set everything will help make you better (even single fret madness is good work out for any finger)Lotsa tours always make you a better player.

Here is an idea use your pinky to play everything Slipknot does! I bet it would be alot more hard.

lol!! After hearing the audio i realize he is playing to a bunch of 15 year old's who know nothing about theory. When he said Segovia the crowd was so quiet you could hear your own breath!

Slipknot fans should not be related to music, well the wisconsin one's lol.

Malls rule. There's hot chicks and you can buy good shit.
So, I don't see the fuss. Oh and you can buy food too, there.

being a native to the milwaukee area (i'm 15 minutes away from Intestate music), i go there a lot..
dude, you'e a fuckin moron..

no one goes to cascio, but musicians. no one knew about mick being there, but musicians. it's a musician's store, not a music store, like best buy o sam goody, you freak. there were a 100 people there, tops, all sitting in chairs.. you think they're going to give him a standing ovation? maybe when he went on stage, and left, but that's it.. other than that, sitting in the presence of mick thompson, you're not going to say a whole lot, because the guy can fuckin shred. if there were ANY 15 year olds there, it was only because they play guitar or are otherwise in a high school band of some sort. get your facts right.
MILWAUKEE METAL, DAMMIT!!!

i personally haven't heard mick play outside of slipknot. his stuff in the knot isn't extremely technical, but it is very unique.

technical doesn't impress me anyway. anyone can sit behind an instrament for six hours a day for a few years and learn to play technical shit. it's much harder to find your own style and make music that conveys emotion and energy. that shit's hard. i'm a fan of a few bands like children of bodom and other technical "true metal" bands, but their music has no emotion or energy whatsoever. i only listen to it because i admire their talent.

most of the bands like don't play very technical music, but they can rip a hole in your chest as fast as they can sew the wound. it's emotional and energetic shit. if you aren't listening to music to feel something, then why the hell are you listening to music? to jerk off to guitar solos?

the best bands in the world fuse both emotion and technical ability (i.e. opeth, tool, etc.)

the new slipknot shit suck... i think they should dedicate to extreme stuff and their songs and music in general shouldn't be passed on mtv and all that kind of shit... im very dissapointed with that band... the only one guy that i'd put into another band is joey, he's a great drummer.. and he's very prettu ^^

mick isn't an awesome guitar player like Dimebag Darrell, and particullary i never heard mick outside Slipknot, only a few guitar riffs that anyone can play without problems (the hardest one could be played with a bit of practice)... im not sayin' that mick is a bad guitarrist or anything, he's only a guitar player...
