ALICE IN CHAINS Perform 'Rooster' On 'Decades Rock Live!': Video Available - May 8, 2006
A video clip of ALICE IN CHAINS performing the song "Rooster" with COMES WITH THE FALL frontman William DuVall and Ann and from HEART on March 10, 2006 at the taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!" has been posted online at YouTube.com.

ALICE IN CHAINS played five songs on as part of a "Decades Rock Live!" tribute to HEART. The episode officially premiered on May 5 but the final 90-minute program only included two songs from AIC ("Would?" and "Rooster").

Former PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo sang two songs with the group (Would? [video] and "Them Bones"), while DuVall performed another two in addition to dueting with Ann Wilson on "Rooster".

ALICE IN CHAINS recently confirmed the five dates and cities for its U.S. mini-tour, beginning on May 18 in Los Angeles and ending on May 23 in New York City. The shows will all take place in either small clubs or theatres.

These gigs and a previously announced date at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August are the only announced North American shows for the reunited group so far, with European festival dates on tap for June and July.

As previously reported, ALICE IN CHAINS will be joined on vocals by DuVall. However, surprise guest vocalists and musicians are expected to show up at each of the five U.S. dates.

ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley died in April of 2002.

I know one guy or two who could do a decent job with a song like that...

1. Scott Weiland

2. Alter Bridge frontman, I'd give him a shot...

3. Maybe Cornell, what the heck...

His voice is very similar to Layne's, so if you are looking for a guy who can sing them the way that Layne did, this guy seems to be the right choice.

Now, watch me start a fight:

But I'm sure most of you little right white suburban supremacists simply don't like him because he happens to be black.

i thought Phil did an awesome job with "Would?". he made it his own but still kept with the original very well. granted, his voice has seen better days, but i think he did a great job otherwise.

William DuVall sounded amazing. not exactly a Layne wannabe but still had that haunting effect of Layne's voice. i just wish the Wilson sisters from Heart weren't in there. they just need to hang it up. i wasn't thrilled with the idea of William DuVall filling in at first because AIC won't be the same without Layne, but now i actually want to check them out.

Those 2 "FAT GIRLS" are Ann & Nancy Wilson who form an incredible band -HEART!!!!!!!! Besides Ann is the "Heavy" one and as hot as she was way back when, her voice has such depth the heavier she gets. I so could have done without the Alice In Chains bullshit. Yeah, Heart and AIC are from Seattle. So Fucking what. The Beatles and Oasis are from England. Alice and Chains so overrated.

Seriously, its weird to see William "Kip" Duvall, former member of BLAST and (and I hope someone here knows what I am talking about) NEON CHRIST singing for ALICE IN CHAINS. I wonder if Kip will break out his Dan Armstrong and play some Greg Ginn type leads? He was awesome at it..

To me, Alice in Chains symbolized what dark music was all about. DuVall doesn't give off that vibe at all. He did a pretty good job of handling "Rooster," but the vibe just wasn't right. At first, I was excited when I kept seeing the name "Alice in Chains" pop up in all these Blabbermouth stories, but now I kind of wish they had just let the band die. Don't keep calling it Alice in Chains. Regardless of how much of the music Jerry Cantrell wrote, Layne Staley was the real driving force behind the magic of Alice in Chains. With him now gone, the magic and myster of Alice in Chains is completely gone along with him. I'd be very interested to hear any new music the remaining members may make in the future, but not under the misleading title of Alice in Chains.

fuck that shit, i enjoyed the hell out of phil's performance. that shirt from early on in his career is gonna sounds different. it was damn near 20 years ago. think of the difference between kill em all hetfield and reload hetfield. big difference. plus, this isn't exactly phil's style anymore. that being said, i thought he did a great job, and i wish i could see more of that.

i do agree weiland would be the shit on that one. cornell would be great too. another mildly interesting voice that could work: chad grey from mudvayne. not the world's biggest fan, but i think it would work.

burt from ff would be decent on would? too... for rooster, i think brock from 36CF would be cool. sure, he doesn't have that dark voice, but not many do. and his voice is definately got something different to it to make it work.

hell, let's throw jesse leach, robb flynn, mike williams, and akerfeldt in a studio and see what they churn out.

too many people will think this post is silly, and that's a shame.

Ok I'm not going to say that this Duvall guy is a piece of shit or anything, he could be the fucking greatest with his normal band. I just don't think he's right for Alice in Chains. Rooster to me was fucking horrible, I'm a chick and I think I could have done a better job. I think Phil did a kick ass job on Would , he is someone you can give respect to for singing with AIC not some jack off from a band no one really knows. If you look on AIC's web site Jerry says he's not trying to replace Layne, Layne is irreplacable and everyone knows it. Anyways I think they need to keep looking, this Duvall guy is not going to cut it in my book and if they keep him there making a huge mistake.
Phil you fucking rock!!! I loved seeing you up on stage again.
Layne,
Don't start worring yet up there. Hopefully the band will make the right decision. We still miss and love you.

Yes, Phil's performance wasn't up to par, but that shouldn't be the focus. The focus should be how AIC is back together to play some shows for the real fans. It's realy pissing me off how everyone wants to criticize Phil because of one bad performance. He obviously had a long career, so that says something about his talent.

Personally, all that matters is that AIC is together, and I'll get my chance (along with others) to see them in person, and that theyre doing this in the memory of one of the greatest rock singers of all time, in memory of their friend and brother.

RIP Layne

..I tend to get cheesy..

The band was NOT looking for a Layne clone. They've said that over and over. They're happy with who they have. Suck it up people. William DuVall is who THEY want.

People would be bitching even if Layne had lived and they did a reunion tour.
