Tampa-based "classic" death metal act
RESURRECTION, who were previously signed to
Nuclear Blast Records, have reformed and are currently working on new material. Founding members
John Astl (guitar) and
Paul DeGolyer (vocals) return to their respective roles, joined by former
EPITAPH and current
ADRIFT drummer
Kevin Astl, who had also spent time with
RESURRECTION after the release of the band's 1993 debut record,
"Embalmed Existence".
Comments
John Astl: "The focus right now is on writing a new album's worth of material, and then playing some festivals. We are thinking about remixing and re-mastering the
'Embalmed' record with some unreleased stuff and live tracks as well, since I keep getting bombarded with emails about re-releasing that record."
RESURRECTION, who are currently unsigned, plan on recording new demo to shop to various labels. Drummer
Kevin Astl says, "We currently have five songs written and pretty damn tight. The songwriting for us is key. In the past,
RESURRECTION never had the stability in drummers in order to really commit to a certain sound or vibe. Now we are spending time creating the best songs we can. There is a real technical aspect to these songs, but also a very progressive structure that is going to surprise some people, but overall the material is heavy as hell, groovy, and very cutting edge." Adds
John Astl: "The lyrical topics this time around are much more mature, and tell a lot of situational stories that listeners will be able to draw their own conclusions from."
RESURRECTION are actively looking for bass players in the Tampa area. Please email either jaastl@hotmail.com or astl@tampabay.rr.com for more details.
