TOOL Pulls Out All Stops For CD Package

Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL's new album, "10,000 Days", features some of the most elaborate CD packaging ever seen, with stereoptic lenses built right into the cover art so that fans can look through photos and artwork inside the CD jacket in full 3-D. The band has previously done equally impressive packages for its "Aenima" and "Lateralus" albums. Drummer Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL's album designs were inspired by a previous generation of rock artists. "We all grew up, I think, listening to bands like PINK FLOYD and YES and, you know, the art-rock bands that always tried to create this fantasy thing that was larger than life, you know, and that was a big inspiration for sure," he said.
"10,000 Days" was released last Tuesday (May 2) and industry reports suggest that it could sell over 600,000 copies in its first week of release, which would easily land it in the No. 1 slot on Billboard's Top 200. Sales figures will be released tomorrow (Wednesday, May 10).
TOOL is currently on a 15-city North American mini-tour that brings it to Denver, Colorado tomorrow. A larger U.S. trek is planned for the fall.

Killer band, killer album, killer artwork. They go above and beyond most bands with their presentation. Anyone who doesn't get Tool's music, listen to it alone in the dark. You will be able to concentrate on the music better. Their music shouldn't really be listened to when there are other distractions around. You need to let the music pull you in.

10, 000 days kind of sucks. it does have some rather abnormal packaging, but I couldn't get teh 3D thing to work. Plus, did anyone see that message in the CD booklet, warning us not to use the glasses for anything else? hehe, it's good to see Tool still have a sense of humor.

If you don't at least like some type of progressive and/or underground music you won't get it. Simple as that.

As well as the album. In fact, now that I've had a chance to listen to it for a week, I can easily say it's my favorite Tool album. There have been mixed reviews, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I fucking love it, and that's all that matters to me. I highly doubt there will be an album released this year that will top this one for me.

On another note I hope this site isnt suppose to be focused around new news, or breaking news, or anything of new interest within the rock/heavy industry, because this TOOL news is a week old, and most of the GOSSIP, on here is hardley news worthy, let alone interesting or about good or well composed music. I check the site out daily there is usually 95% crap with a few decent subjects peppered in here and there.

high quality scan the pictures? wha? Scanned pictures are continuous tone. when they are printed they have to make a screen for 4 color process. It sounds like you are talking about printing these books in litho quality. too expensive. there is manipulation in the images that give it the 3d effect. Its not just high quality. It has to do with the offset of the images and the lenses it is viewed through in this case.
Its pretty amazing.

It's a good Tool album... they have a formula (like most bands) and are good at what they do. It's definitely not as aggressive as Undertow or mind-blowing as Aenima. I personally think they have lost their edge, similar to Trent Reznor. There was a day when these people were pissed off and made music that crushed, but now they are pre-occupied with other things. Maynard has his wine vineyard, Trent needs to work out everyday, etc.
It's not that the album is worthless... the packaging is incredible (especially when you get the glasses/images to work) and as far as the album is concerned, its a decent listen. I agree that if you listen to it with the lights off and with headphones on you'll probably hear/appreciate it much more, but lets not split hairs, its not fucking Undertow or Aenima.

THAT NEW TOOL CD SUCKS ASS, THEY SPENT MORE TIME ON THE ARTWORK THEN THE ACTUAL CD. THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A WAY TO PLACE THE CD IN THE CASE, JUST SOME CARDBOARD SLOT THAT SCRATCHED THE CD UP. I was a Tool fan, but this album is a gimmick at best. And even the more conventional material sounds like they're imitating themselves! AGHGH..
My heart is broken :( I'd rather listen to St. Anger than this album honestly :/...it IS that bad!

The artwork is amazing. My friend bought it for me as a gift. The album is, eh, so-so. It'll take me awhile I'm sure to really appreciate it. But it's def worth the money for the artwork/special edition alone.

Let me start of by saying I've been a huge Tool fan since Undertow came out. However, each album since then has slowly deteriated in overall quality. I find the # of quality songs on each subseqent album has continued to drop.
10,000 Days hits a new low point for me. There are 3.5 tracks that I like on this 11 track CD (Tracks: 1, 2, 5, 2nd hald of 8).
The rest of it is pure crap! I might expect as much it they were putting out an album every year. Running out of ideas. However, it's been something like 5 years since the last album.
I expect more and I other true Tool fans do as well. They may think they are being artistic, but the remainder of these tracks just show that their writing abilities are drying up. They can only squeeze a few solid songs out per CD at this point.

I do *NOT* need to be told that I don't appreciate this album or that my "ability to understand, awesome, deep, moving progressive music" is a failure, is completely false, lil buddy. Is a very good album in my opinion, although it is not their best(aenema is my fav). This one didn't hit me right away on first listen, but after a couple times through it really grew on me.
Also, to all the tool fans that say if you don't like Tool it's "because you don't understand it", go fuck yourselves. A higher process isn't needed to listen to Tool or any other bands you talk that way of. Music isn't about understanding it is about how it makes you feel. If you enjoy what you're hearing you will like it and if you don't then you won't. Understand.
Also just to put my 2 cents in on the RHCP talk here, Stadium Arcadium is quite awesome.

well this CD packaging is awsome.. and the lenses are pretty hard to use, but on the page before the one of adam, you can see a kind of instruction of how to use them.

I think it's funny that everyone who bashes on here says something like, go listen to slayer, hatebreed or some other cookie monster spewing shit. I'm glad these types don't like TOOL, don't have deal with your stupid asses starting a pit at their shows anymore.
P.S....The show in Dallas the other night ruled!!!
