More information has surfaced regarding the motorcycle accident involving former MC5 bassist Michael Davis in which he ended up hospitalized with a fractured spine and other injuries.

According to The Associated Press, Davis, 62, was riding his Harley-Davidson on the 210 Freeway in Pasadena on Monday when he hit a muffler in the roadway, his wife Angela Davis said.

"There was no way to get past it," she said.

Davis was taken to a hospital where he will likely stay until Friday. He also bruised his ribs and will be in a back brace for six weeks, his wife said.

Davis was wearing a helmet, goggles and leather jacket at the time of the crash, she said.

"We're just glad it was his helmet that split and not his head," she said. "He has purple lips and claims he looks like Marilyn Manson, so he still has his sense of humor."

The bassist gained prominence in the revolutionary Detroit band MC5 and currently plays in a version of the group called DKT with former MC5 members Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thompson.

Two DKT performances, including a May 19 show at the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash in New York, have been canceled due to the accident. A decision was pending on a Florida show over Memorial Day weekend.
