SEPULTURA Members Attend SOULFLY Show In New York City - May 13, 2006
A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of "Cheezesteak" has submitted the following report:

"I went to go see SOULFLY last night [May 12] at the Irving Plaza [in New York City]. There wasn't a ton of people, which was great because it was easy to get a drink. Like the third song in was 'Roots Bloody Roots' [by SEPULTURA], which is always good to hear. About 10 minutes later, Derrick Green and Andreas Kisser from SEPULTURA [who are currently in New York City doing press for their recently released album 'Dante XXI'] walk in!!! They stayed in the back by the bar and had a few drinks but watched the rest of the show. Don't know if Max [Cavalera, ex-SEPULTURA and current SOULFLY frontman] knew, but I don't [think] he said anything from the stage about [it]. A few people came over [to Andreas and Derrick] and took photos or asked for autographs. Both guys were SUPER-cool with that."

SEPULTURA parted ways with Max Cavalera in December 1996 following a dispute over the band's management, which was being handled at the time by Max's wife Gloria Cavalera. Despite persistent rumors of a possible reunion of SEPULTURA's classic lineup, Kisser and Cavalera have not spoken to each other in almost ten years.

In a recent interview with the Spiritribe webzine, Kisser had the following to say regarding the possibility of working with Max in a band situation once again:

"I heard Max saying a lot of stuff [about a possible reunion] lately in interviews but we can't really give too much credit [to] what he says, because I heard so many different [things] — he's very contradictory in the stuff that he says. But these rumors about a reunion [have been] going on since he left the band, since the first day, like, 'He's comin' back tomorrow!' (Laughs) That's something we learned to live with. There's nothing going on [with regards to a possible reunion]. For us it would be the worst time of all, doing something like that [right now]. We're so much focused on our career, our label, our manager... towards the future, [and] not going back. So I don't see that happening right now. I can't deny that it would be great to have a chance to play again together. We built something very special together. But it's gona have to be like [it was in the] good old days, you know — talk to each other, practice and... and do it right! Not putting the money on the table and go on stage and play. That would be total disrespect to our fans, and people [would] feel that [it was being done for the wrong reasons] — there's no way to fool them! (Laughs) So, let's see! We're very focused on what we're doin' right now."

I really hope that Max never rejoins Sepultura, because they've finally seemed to hit their stride with Dante XXI, and Max would just turn them into Soulfly, which would suck ass. What would be awesome, though, would be some sort of Sepultura/Soulfly tour, with Max getting up there with the old band as the big finale.

It's better for Max to stick to Soulfly. Sepultura didn't release a good album since Roots, and Soulfy gets better with every album, especcialy Dark Ages and Prophecy

Andreas has to take his body guard with him to meet up with Max finally after all these years because Soulfly has been staging Sepultura songs for years even on tour together. Eddie Van Halen said that he has the new EVP samples of Dimebag and he is not releasing them at this time due to mass "paranoia" associated with what some would recognize the "fear of god" enigma.

I like both bands, Sepultura especially now that they've released such a KILLER ALBUM, Dante XXI. Soulfly are really good too and "Dark Ages" kicks ass. I hope they tour together that'd be great!

Soulfly's last two albums were dope, but nobody really buys their albums anymore. seps are almost totally irrelevant now. a reunion, in the not too distant future, is becoming more likely than ever. it might just be out of necessity, economic or otherwise.

I think that whatever Cavalera decides to do will be the shit, he is after all Max Cavalera. And I personally don't think that it's a necessity to have a reunion tour, could be for fun. You know, they enjoy what they do, it doesn't always have to be about money............

wow, thats really big of Derrick and Andreas. right on.

as far as a reunion... just do a tour together, do some songs together, become friends again.

but derrick should NOT leave Sepultura. i mean, c'mon, DANTE XXI!!!! (watch the convicted in life video!!)

From what I have seen, Max doesn't sign any Sepultura items for the fans that wanted to take back a little something, before or after the show. I don't think that is a good sign for any Sepultura renunion.

Love both bands [and Sepultura up to 'Roots'] and Soulfly is definitely the band that has produced the best material, after the breakup. I guess that would make sense, since Max was the main songwriter.

It would be awesome to have a Sepultura reunion but I don't see it happening. Derrick has done a fucking good job fronting the band and Dante is a great solid album, they aren't just going to fire him like Anthrax fired John Bush. The novelty isn't worth it in the long run.

By far, the band with Max slays the band without Max. I saw Soulfly for the second time this past month here in Seattle where they basically tore the roof off the venue. Their new lineup is just getting better and better. Rizzo is seriously skilled.

Sepultura's new CD is average, at best. They'd love to have Max back in the fold, no doubt about it. But it won't happen anytime soon. He's too busy with Soufly and besides, it's not like they're on speaking terms any longer. Silly, I know, since they're all adults. But hey, it happens.

SOULFLY!

YA!!! wish I was at that show that woulda been badass!! I love both Soulfly and Sepultura would be a fucking amazing tour if they were together. To bad not many people buy Soulfly's stuff anymore especially Dark Ages which in my opinion is one of Soulfly's best cd's they ever made. IT's okay though this kinda music is probably way to heavy and extreme for the people who are just starting to like metal they couldn't handle a show like this. Not even the hardcore dance and karate chop kids could survive this shit. People need to stop listening to whats always on the radio every 5 minutes or MTV every hour and buy a Soulfly or Sepultura cd, or any cd from a band that is fucking good metal.

Andreas is fucking liar! He thinks he will reach the top with Dante but he will not. I tried to listen that shit for couple of times, tried to find some meaning in it. Riffs fucking sucks and so do Dereck lyrics. Nothing new, nothing original. Sepultura survived all these years singing Max's songs. They didn't have one good single. Igor is not playing tours with Sepultura anyway so I don't see any kind of reunion at all. Andreas and Dereck are ready to say anything just to sell their album.
