NEVERMORE: Singer's Illness Forces Grand Rapids Show Cancellation - May 14, 2006
NEVERMORE were forced to cancel their scheduled appearance with IN FLAMES, THROWDOWN and EVERGREY on Saturday, May 13 in Grand Rapids, Michigan after the band's lead singer, Warrel Dane, came down with an unspecified illness. No further information is currently available.

As previously reported, NEVERMORE guitarist Steve Smyth was recently diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure, the result of a congenital birth defect. JAG PANZER guitarist Chris Broderick is filling in for Smyth on the current U.S. tour, after which Smyth will rejoin the band for their European festival dates. NEVERMORE also announced that their bass player and one of the founding members Jim Sheppard will soon be undergoing a minor procedure for Crohn's Disease, a condition he's managed for over 15 years. Unable to perform with the band during the first part of their tour with IN FLAMES, Sheppard is being temporarily replaced by longtime friend James MacDonough (ex-MEGADETH, ICED EARTH).

NEVERMORE, who recently wrapped up a series of dates with ARCH ENEMY, will be supporting DISTURBED across Europe this fall. After their touring activity the band will be taking time off to write the follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed album "This Godless Endeavor".

Holy mother of Christ on a bike!
Did these guys ancesters rob the tomb of King Tut or what?

Nevermore are treading dangerously close to Destruction territory as far as cancelling gigs goes.

Seriously though, I wish them all the best, and hopefully I will see Nevermore PROPER when, or if, they get round to playing Wacken in August.

All kidding aside I hope the members of Nevermore who have fallen ill get better soon. Sucks to see such misfortune befall a great band.

He was sitting up in the balcony drinking something and during the set change he jumped up and rushed out. Maybe he doesn't drink, but it sure seems odd that he was fine during the first set and suddenly took too ill just during the set change.

Evergrey did a smoking set and it is upsetting that if Warrel was feeling ill all day that he didn't decide earlier and let Evergrey play longer. But I guess that if In Flames was calling the shots, I wouldn't want Evergrey to play longer either cause they were the only decent band that evening. Guess thats why In Flames has Throwdown as direct support too, cause if either Nevermore or Evergrey plays before them, they would sound terrible in comparison.

Mega-man.....I agree with you. I feel that we got ripped off as well.

I was at this show... I didn't feel ripped off... I mean, yeah, it sucked that NM couldn't play, but Evergrey, Throwdown and In Flames all played great sets.... I was especially impressed by Throwdown's cover of "Roots"... and I also saw NM's singer in the balcony. I couldn't see if he was drinking or anything, but I saw him there.

Plus Evergrey and Nevermore (if he wasn't sick that day) should have played right before In Flames, instead of those wannabe hardcore idiots from California (Throwdown). They wished they were from Brooklyn.

What was up with that short-ass set time for Evergrey?? I sure hope they get a chance to come back on their own, along with the godly Nevermore. Warrel looked and sounded a little better than he did when on the Gigantour, but with him, it's one day at a time.

um, being a broken record here, but ... why can't some non-awesome bands shoulder a portion of Nevermore's illness burden? Let's spread this shit out a bit, right? I can think of a thousand suckass bands that i've been wishing death on for years, man.

Save Nevermore!! Guys: GET WELL SOON AND COMPLETELY!

Now I know why he didn't do my favorite part of the song "BORN" when they played live in Cinci in Ohio on the 11th.
Other than that he sounded great and when I met with him after the show he seemed cool. The whole tour package as diverse as it was kicked serious ass. This also explains why Throwdown played after Nevermore. I had no idea about the replacement players.

In Flames tore it up though.

COMMENT | well wishes guys!
