Ex-SUICIDAL TENDENCIES Members Join Forces With Former EXCEL Singer In AGAINST - May 15, 2006
Former SUICIDAL TENDENCIES members Amery Smith (drums), Grant Estes (guitar) and Louichi Mayorga (bass) have joined forces with ex-EXCEL frontman Dan Clements in a new band called AGAINST. "We're currently in the studio working and have two songs that will appear on [the] 'Welcome to Venice 2' [compilation] being put out by Built On An Ounce Records," Estes told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "We [recently] did a sellout show at The Good Hurt Club in Venice and are doing another [tonight] May 15. Both shows are benefits to help launch the 'Welcome to Venice 2' disc."

This sounds amazing! I would love to hear from all those old-school Suicidals again...and Dan Clements is a great vocalist!

I'm not sure they'll be able to do a "Welcome to Venice 2" though. I'm pretty sure Mike Muir owns the rights to Welcome to Venice...I'll have to ask him.

Before ST went semi-metal they ruled the punk world with a vengeance. Dominating the surf punk movement with a vengeance.

...they were one of the best moron! rocky's solos are some of the sickest ever and he's also the most underrated guitarist in history. i have no idea why he never got any attention. he's right up there with george lynch and dime. if you don't believe me listen to his solos to get whacked and how will i laugh tomorrow. plus lights...camera... and how will i laugh tomorrow are filled with some of the sickest riffs.

You know, I really agree with you.

It was sort of embarassing how overlooked Rocky was, when other guitarists of lesser talent would always make the cover of guitar magazines and get all the "Guitar God" press.

I listen back on that stuff now, and it still sounds like fresh, damn good guitar playing.

The ST metal years were fukn stoopit. I don't know what band that was but it wasn't SUicidal Tendencies! Because Suicidal Tendencies was the most loco hardcore shit you ever saw in your life.

I visited the myspace site for these guys and saw some live pictures of them playing. Whoa, it looked like old-timers day on stage. No disrespect intended, but Louiche has gotten quite fat and old looking. Mike Muir has definitely aged much better than his former bandmates.

Suicidal Tendencies=Easily one of the greatest thrash bands EVER!!!!

Actually Mike Clark is the one who needs to get the credit. He created the sound that would become the signature "Suicidal" sound. Sure Rocky played some nice solos, but Mike created the sound. Just listen to the No Mercy record (also redone as "Feel Like Shit").

And for the record, Adam Siegal smokes them all. One of the most under rated guitarists of ANY genre.

Still this record should be good.

Dude, the original had shitty playing, production, and was a fuckin' demo. Why do you think they redid it? I hate the original Institutionalized. Rocky, Rob, and R.J. were Suicidal!! But Jimmy Degrasso ruled on Suicidal for Life!!

Truth is punks are punks, and metalheads are metalheads. They are separate due to several (or should I say severe) differences. One of them is the need for metalheads to have muso ability and clean-sounding recordings. Us punks don't need that. One basic thing for many of us is the crazy recklessness and unschooled rawness, coupled with honest expressive energy that's not tainted by flash and pose. Suicidal's first album has all of that. It's a classic that has stood the test of time and will continue so forever. This is why a re-grouping of the people responsible is such great news for many of us. AGAINST should be able to bring back what Mike Muir has lost from the 2nd LP onwards. I'm stoked!

for those interested, do check this very punk rock live video of them:

http://www.slam310.tv/

look for "Against"

BTW; some people will get it, some people won't. that's what punk is all about. To those who do, salute!

st first album was the best ever, raw soundin and full of energy with angry vocals. the remake was weak, lame, sounded silly and was basically shit. join the army was a classic too. things went down hill from there but i suppose they were good for a metal band - apart from art of rebelion, which is one of the worst albums ive ever heard. rocky was good but im glad trujillo fucked off. the brunners are way better than trujillo and herrera. gone has the shity metal and girly locks and suicidal are soundin(and even lookin) better now.
