Former EXHORDER/FLOODGATE Frontman Joins ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY - May 22, 2006
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY have announced the addition of Kyle Thomas as the group's lead vocalist. "Kyle is a world-class singer with an impressive resumé that includes being a founding member of seminal New Orleans metal band EXHORDER and singing with other acts, including FLOODGATE, PITTS VS PREPS and the legendary TROUBLE," ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY drummer Bryan Cox writes in a statement. "With the singer (or lack thereof) situation resolved, we will be headed quickly toward hitting the studio to make the album that we have been writing since this past July. In typical ATP fashion, this one will be different from the last thing that we did and we are obviously very excited to get it on tape. If you are at all familiar with Kyle's work, then you know that what he is going to bring to this ATP record will be very special and we feel honored and fortunate to be taking the next step forward as ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY with him as a part of the team."

Cox continued: "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you folks who have supported ATP over the years and who enjoy and appreciate what we do enough to buy our records and come out to see us play. 2006 makes 10 years as a band for us and it's still as exciting for me as it was when I started doing this. So anyway thank you thank you thank you and please stay tuned as we get ready to unleash another one on your tender ears!!"

Anyone who believes Exhorder is better than Pantera is a moron. Your saying a band that released 2 mediocre albums is better than one that released 5 metal masterpieces. Pantera wipes the floor with Exhorder. Exhorder has no guitar player like Dime or rhythm section like Rex and Vinnie. And Kyle Thomas is no prized jewel either. Phil blows him out of the water on vocals. Stop trying to be all underground, loser. You probably also think Kreator should be headlining arenas. You make me laugh.

Pantera started playing clubs in the early '80's. Prong had more of a case than Exhorder! Exhorder sounds like an Exodus rip off!

Bottom line, if you know anything about Pantera then you'd know that Philip grew up in NOLA and was friends with and heavily influenced by Exhorder. An influence he brought to Pantera when he joined the band.

I love both bands and am happy as fuck that we'll finally get to hear Kyle on something new and on top of that, in a killer band like ATP. Been a long time since the Floodgate record.

COMMENT | Because Kyle is a great vocalist!

That's why so many bands want him. As for the EXHORDER vs. PANTERA thing, man let it rest. I grew up in NOLA and yeah EXHORDER were tearing it up at storyville and the vfw in the mid 1980's and they were great and i'm glad I got to see that. Did they influence PANTERA? Who cares! And yeah Phil was at their shows too, but it doesn't matter, they are two different bands that are both great, period!

Now for the PITTS VS. PREPS go to their myspace and you can get a hold of their tunes there.

Congrats Kyle, looking forward to hearing this brother.

i don't know why kyle is doing this but he made a wrong choice! so if there will be Exhorder reunion then they gonna need a new singer instead! but it's too late!

I rarely write here at blabber, but when someone just tries to put down a band i love with so called facts that are wrong, I use my time to let them know they're wrong and keep thye mouth shut.

Slaughter in the Vatican came out in 1990. Do not remember the date, but I'm a 100% sure about it. If I remember right, you have the date OK, but the year wrong, so Exhorder album came out first according to the dates. Even though that date might be wrong and Pantera got release days earlier, the Slaughter In the Vatican Demo came out in 1988, with the same songs as the release, with the exception of The Tragic Period that was written in the 2 year process of recording and releasing. Phil adore that demo and was one of the strong core following of the band that distribute the demo in those days, and in that time his heaviest release was Power Metal... so get your conclusions.

No matter that, I love Pantera, even the Power Metal album, but I do not understand the point of fighting and trying to make notice who copied who... But if your making that and if going to start crap about Exhorder, at least get the facts straight.

Exhorder never put out the Great Southern Trendkill, so either way Pantera wins!!! Keep living in the past, losers.

Sepultura was doing the groovy thrash thing before Exhorder anyway. So waht. Does that mean Pantera copied off Sepultura also. Or would that be Exhorder. Who cares. Get a life and stop living in the past. Stop being so fucking bitter because Exhorder never broke through. You fucking nostalgic losers.

It has been claimed that Exhorder more or less invented the sort of angry, 90's post-thrash metal often attributed to Pantera. It's not really clear who was first (and ultimately it may not matter much), but the resemblance between The Law and Pantera's Cowboys From Hell is clear, with stripped-down rhythm guitars, heavy double-bass drumming, and angry vocals complimenting the basic American thrash style of the late 80's. After two albums the band broke up, and vocalist Kyle Thomas went on to form Floodgate, and also briefly appeared live as the vocalist for Trouble. As late as 2002 Thomas indicated a desire to put out a new Exhorder album, but that doesn't appear to be happening at this time, as he is now devoting time to his new band, Pitts vs Preps.
