Just wanted to let you know that I am thankful that you reminded me that the guitarist for Black Sab is Tony Iommi.

If you haven't I may have thought it was someone else like Paul $tanl3y, Lar$ UlRICH, that douchebag who played guitar for Grim Reaper, or the assclown who played guitar for Little Ceasar.

Once again,

Thanks a bunch!

Good to see (or hear....whatever) that Paranoid hasn't aged badly whatsoever.

Just wait for the fifty year mark (where it is likely that tons of magazines will try to cash in by releasing cover compilations of it) to see how truly well it has aged (where it is undoubtable that it will still kick almost your entire CD collections' metaphorical ass)

dude, you couldnt be more wrong. sure, its overplayed and perhaps overrated. but it is not boring. early metal is the bastard son of blues, so repetition is the norm. without his hand of doom, metal as we know it would simply not exist. so props to mr iommi and the rest the brummies who started this genre. and fuck you to anyone that disagrees

This is one of the true cornerstones of metal. No one should be without this album in their collection.

My favorite Sabbath album is Volume 4, but we never would have gotten there without Paranoid would we?

Paranoid is such an overplayed song but along with Iron Man it's the most identifiable of Sabbath songs (to the masses anyway). Some of us think Paranoid is overrated cause it lacks the complexity of lesser known songs i.e. A National Acrobat. However, the album Paranoid solidified Sabbath as the forefathers of a new and at the time unknown genre we call Metal. The song Paranoid yet simple and written as a filler is the foundation of the very music it spawned. So that being said, you have to respect the impact that one album or one song made, it literally changed the face of music. Personally, my favorite BS albums are Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath they're two masterpieces. But you needed the success and stepping stone of the Paranoid album to inspire them. Black Sabbath's s/t deserves the same accolades but it was crushed by critics and it took time for people to get used to the sound of hell on vinyl. When Paranoid came out it catapulted them to a big premier rock band, that's why this album is so significant.

Paranoid is truly one of the greatest rock/metal albums ever. but its one of those albums that have been played to death. as great as it is, I must've listened to it thousands of times over the past 20 years. and its a shame that it overshadows alot of other equally great Sabbath albums. every album from their self-titled debut all the way up to Sabotage are incredible.
