TOOL Guitarist Has Eye For Great Visuals - May 24, 2006
Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL is acclaimed almost as much for its album packages, artwork and music videos as its music, and its latest album, "10,000 Days", is possibly the band's most lavishly designed CD yet. Much of the band's imagery is conceived and supervised by guitarist Adam Jones, who told Launch his interest in visuals started even before TOOL. "I've always been into art and drawing and sculpting, and I did makeup effects for a long time, and it's always been a big part of my life," he said. "And Maynard too, and, you know, the other band members — you know, when I met those guys, they were all doing something kind of creative, and I think that's why it clicks."

"10,000 Days" includes 3-D artwork and photos in the CD package, along with a built-in set of stereoptic lenses to view them through.

The album, TOOL's fourth, debuted at Number One on The Billboard 200 two weeks ago.

TOOL completed a North American mini-tour last weekend and begins a European jaunt this Friday (May 26). The group plans to return for a larger U.S. tour this fall.

The band has already been confirmed to headline the 22nd annual San Diego Street Scene festival, scheduled for August 4-5 in downtown San Diego. Other acts slated to appear include KANYE WEST, A.F.I., MODEST MOUSE, THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, WU TANG CLAN, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, YELLOWCARD, SHE WANTS REVENGE, ROCK KILLS KID and others to be announced.

Tool dominates, but I keep seeing articles that this is Tool's fourth album.
1.Opiate
2.Undertow
3.AEnema
4.Laterallus
5.10,000 Days

I know Opiate wasn't as long as the others, but it still is an album.

own with the guitar playing.

10,000 days, other then the first 2 songs, is a glorified movie sound track. Boring!!!! I can’t believe how such a great band could make such a brutal album. Ya, all the sonic humming and trippy sound effects in background are really special, but a whole album full of this crap is ripping off fans 15$. I fast forwarded through 95% of this garbage disk. I want my money back!!

Trippy progressive type music, visually arousing in many ways and a band that doesn't give in under commercial pressure. 10K Days is just a plain old great album. Even when Tool opened up for Green Jello 15 years ago, you could tell you were witnessing something very special in the making.

Someone earlier said it right, half of Adam Jones' riffs sound like leftovers from previous albums. The artwork owns, but the music is not up to par of their previous releases, and I say this as someone who enjoys esoteric, pretentious and self-indulgent music, especially concept albums. But this one is just not that good.

And just because it's hard to play and produce, doesn't mean it's good music. It just takes more skill, that's all. I respect that. Steve Vai has some amazing guitar skills, but I find his music freakin' boring and unimaginative.

Opiate=EP (not a full length album)
Salival=DVD with bonus disc of live, and rare material.

Tool have made 4 actual full length albums. Get it through your heads. Sure it took about 15 years for 4 cd's.... which poses the question.... is Tool that great? Well lets look at Opeth... 8 albums in 10 years... better musicians(excluding Danny Carey). Tool are pretty pathetic with how long it takes them to make an album. You can't argue quality over quanity because there are plenty of bands who release amazing shit every 2 years.

Anyways, with that in mind... 10,000 days should be a masterpiece. It falls way short! It's good, but not great. Which shoots down the Tool=Great formula. I made my own to reflect the new album.

Tool + 10,000 days= what went wrong

i love TOOL. in terms of american music there isn't any band as creative as TOOL. their music is powerful, inspiring, and intelligent. before 10000 days came out, all i heard and read was the band was pissed off...at government, at bush, etc...they also said they were listening to alot of meshuggah and that the new stuff was going to be heavy...but 10000 days is soft. its not heavy at all. i still like the album but there is no way its heavier than lateralus. i was fortunate enough to get a ticket to see TOOL in boston on their club tour. great show, amazing visuals, and they sounded incredible. BUT, the show lasted two hours...they only played two songs from lateralus, and did not play "wings for marie", or "10000 days". aren't those songs the theme for the latest album. the lights came at the club and i said "thats it". i'm still a huge fan. i'll be there when they come back to the states...just a little criticism.
