GODSMACK: Details Of JUDAS PRIEST Tribute Performance Revealed - May 25, 2006
GODSMACK will be performing a four-song medley of JUDAS PRIEST classics as a tribute to the British heavy metal pioneers at the first annual "VH1 Rock Honors". In a live appearance on the "Rockline" nationally syndicated radio show Wednesday night (May 24), PRIEST frontman Rob Halford revealed that Sully Erna and company will be playing the songs "Hell Bent for Leather", "Metal Gods", "Victim of Changes" and "The Hellion/Electric Eye" during tonight's festivities at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. "They're gonna cram all of that into about four minutes, so that's a challenge in itself," Halford said.

"VH1 Rock Honors" is the first-ever show to pay homage to the legends who influenced the sound of hard rock. This year's celebration will honor the music and influence of JUDAS PRIEST, KISS, QUEEN and DEF LEPPARD. Premiering on Wednesday, May 31 at 9:00 p.m., "VH1 Rock Honors" will be taped at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Thursday, May 25 and will include performances by all of the honorees as well as tribute performances by GODSMACK, FOO FIGHTERS (who will be paying tribute to QUEEN) and THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS (DEF LEPPARD). Riki Rachtman will serve as backstage announcer.

Regarding PRIEST's own performance at the show, Halford said, "We're gonna be tearing it up in about eight minutes, if you can believe that. Everybody's got a limited time slot, but we're gonna be belting out some tunes. Before us, GODSMACK… Each band has a tribute band for each performance, and we're lucky enough to have the incredible GODSMACK, who's gonna do a PRIEST medley, and then, of course, the Metal Gods go on directly after GODSMACK. It's gonna be crazy. We've got the Harley, we've got the costumes, we've got the pyro… We've got eight minutes of explosive metal."

As previously reported, an all-star band consisting of Rob Zombie (vocals), Slash (guitar; VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES), Tommy Lee (drums; MÖTLEY CRÜE), and Scott Ian (bass — yes, bass; ANTHRAX) — plus a "special-surprise" second guitarist — will be performing the song "God of Thunder" as a tribute to KISS.

The two-hour tribute will salute the groundbreaking bands of rock, the once-in-a-lifetime events and the influential people who made a lasting mark on the history of hard rock. The influence of these honorees will be felt through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of today's hottest rock acts as well as the legends themselves.

Really? Are you kidding me? The guy ripped off Alice in Chains so shamelessly?
Poor Sully was happy reap all the royalties of a crippled and much more talented band that couldn't make records and couldn't tour. While churning out a substandard version of their sound, taking his band's name from an AIC song and stealing Layne Staley's logo design. Fuck Godsmack.
Vh1 should have hired Slayer, Wolf or Arch Enemy. They didn't though 'cause mtv sucks

I don't pay any attention to godsmack, so I know little to nilch about them. And you're interpretation of their relation to Alice in Chains is interesting. "Ripped them off?" Is it possible that they just love Alice In Chains music so much that they became one of their main influences? Is it possible to take it as a compliment? Maybe I'm missing something here.

I do love Arch Enemy by the way. Saw them with Trivium here in Japan. Really enjoyed it.

Godsmack is the worst possible choice to do a Priest tribute. Oh yeah, and looking at that setlist it's apparant they haven't even heaard anything Priest released after 1983...
