I haven't seen the video yet, I agree James' voice is a shell of his former self just from previous live experiences
But that's still pretty sweet he'd get up there with Jerry and company. He doesn't make 'guest appearances' often, so it's good he picks the best of the best to sit in with. I saw Jerry jam with Metallica on their 98 tour when he opened.
And no matter how 'monk-ey' James sounded, he couldn't have been worse than Billy Corgan singing 'Down In A Hole' at the Roxy...yuck!!

Either Hetfield's voice is more shot than Phil Anselmo's, or they just picked the most absolutely wrong song for him to sing.

At a show back in 93 or 94 when AIC was supposed to be with Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies, James and Co were making a lot of fun of Laynes problem. They started playing Man In The Box while James pretended to stick a needle in his arm onstage. Pretty fucking pathetic. I guess now that he is in "recovery" he understands what addiction is all about. Or maybe he just understands what being a dickhead is all about. Either way, fuck him.

Armdope Anselmo was on VH1
James' voice aint what it used to be but it aint blown out like Phils.
Also good point about the monk sound. Thats totally what it sounds like. S&M was 100% monk sounding. He's toned down the monk-ness since then, but its still there.
Het sounded a little more older-voiced at this one but it still aint the same.
Shame !

First of all, your name is "boogerbrain." I can pretty much rest my case right there. And don't call me "bro" like we're cool. I don't give a shit that MetallicA isn't metal anymore. I know they're not. They're a heavy music band now. You don't have to be metal to be good. And MetallicA's good. Better than this bullshit grindcore/howling vocals/generic metal-by-numbers crap that all the MetallicA haters on Blabbermouth love to fellate. I don't need to have everybody's demo to know that.
MetallicA = immortal Avenged Sevenfold = the future boogerbrain = sheep

james was making fun of laynes "problem" let me quote some lyrics by layne. "I Don't Go Broke, And I Do It A Lot"
Layne Loved Heroin.
Hence AIC is over.
but yes james is pathetic, Metallicas final chance to redeem something of their shattered respect! thank you rick rubin for this oppurtunity!
