METALLICA: Video, Audio Of ROCK AM RING Performance Available

METALLICA's concert at the Rock am Ring festival in Nürburgring, Germany on Saturday, June 3 — which included a performance of the band's classic 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", in its entirety — has been posted online in both video and audio formats. master of puppets is a classic album, even if the new shit sucks, that album rules and they wrote it. what's wrong with them playing an album that good... you should be happy to see a pretty damn good setlist-- most of those songs are good metallica tunes. maybe there is a sliver of hope for the new album.. these guys used to be so good at making metal albums. :(

These guys are reduced to not only NOT playing a SINGLE song from their last album, but they have to make a point of playing a 20 year old album as a gimick. Metallica KNOWS that fans want to hear the kind of music they played on Puppets, or they wouldn't be playing the entire album live. So WHY IN THE FUCK won't they just break down and record a NEW album of that kind of music? This show is evidence that they know what fans want, so why don't they go into the studio and deliver?

this was an awesome, awesome set. but i wouldn't have minded maybe one song from saint anger. as a whole, its not the best album, but there are some good songs there. frantic is good, saint anger is good, sweet amber and all within my hands are awesome songs, and i think the unnamed feeling is one of the best songs they've ever written. the album isn't quite what they used to be, but its still decent.

Dont have the Dream Theater vibe or the Tool vibe either. They are like a heavier shitter Opeth. Then again, Opeth arent all that progressive. But when I hear CoB I think they are trying to be complex and are failing miserably. There is no shitty Slayer kinda simplicity for simplicitys sake, but there isnt the Dream Theater, lets cram as many notes in here as we can. Its somewhere towards the middle, leaning towards DT.

Since I'm not a Metallica fan I went to see IN FLAMES who played a kick ass show on the alternastage (and a whole lot of people showed up).
But someone told me that the 'tallica show was like a madhouse. Security was busy pulling people out of the crow all the time. Some girl even collapsed. Rawk N Roll!

Y'know, it's a really sad situation for Metallica. They have been bestowed a crown to which they can never possibly live up to. It is completely obvious that they do not have the songwriting prowess needed to maintain what the fans have invested in them. They don't have the lasting power needed for the crown. Once again and time again they have copped an idea that many bands have already used. Playing an album in it's entirity. I've faced the fact that this band is out of good ideas. They have been for 16 years now. C'mon LOAD? And then ReLoad? Which are THE most accurately named albums of alltime. Truth is, I was a huge Met fan up until And Justice. Then they've been letting me down ever since. I for one would like them to come back and be as relevant as ever but there is no breath being held here. Everything is a stunt. Finding a major bass player, putting out a 12 step movie, playing entire albums live and Lars continually shooting his mouth off. It's gotten so far away from the music that I don't even recognize them anymore. Truth is, it's not even their fault. Blinded by cash and fame, they've let their record company and management just take the reins and go ballistic with their careers and basically leaving them in the dust when their now all used up and have nothing to offer. It's actually a sad situation. But when you go out and act like Kings and then don't deliver, IMO, then you don't deserve the crown. Face it, 3 great records and 6 suck ass records do not a legacy make. But since they and all involved have created this media monster then they're gonna have to take the flack because they jumped on the boat and are going have to deal dissatisfied over-expectant fans who want them to maintain their levels of songwriting and integrity which they have not by any stretch. I don't think they should go away because they should serve as an example to all bands not to let the circus get out of control and compromise your music and integrity. The poster boys of what not to do when climbing your way up the metal ladder.

I have nothing against em (apart from becoming money thriving capatalist wankers) but all you guys who say "METALLICA SUCKS MY BALLS" whenever there is a thread that even almost mentions them and then post here saying how great they are need to get a life. Seriously.

My wife and I live in Reno, Nv. and we had the fortune of making a trip to Europe during the Rock am Ring festival and we got to see Metallica rock some German faces! The show was packed, of course, considering it was a 3 day festival.
Anyway, Metallica rocked hard, like always. It was cold, as James mentioned a couple times, but they kept going, long after the "encore," which was surprising and cool. For some reason, James had a mark on his right forehead, which I am still curious what happened. For that matter, Kirk seemed to have something on his nose. Curious... Did they duke it out before the show sometime?
But it is true, they did play Master from beginning to end, which is rare. James said he was doing it for the 20th anniversary of Master. He asked the crowd what the next song was next and very few I was standing next to knew.
The set was long and sounded good. The camera man did not show Robert too often; guess they got something for the "old" members. Lars was his usual dickhead self, taunting the front row with drum sticks, but at the end he mentioned a new album with a new tour, so who knows...
So, I thought ya'll would like to hear from a Yankee who was actually there, who waded through the drunk Germans and the long flight to see the headliner of Rock am Ring. Be jealous; I would be!
P.S. Tool also rocked, of course.
