ALICE IN CHAINS: 'Layne Staley: Get Born Again' Book To Include Additional Chapters, Pictures - June 4, 2006
ARTS Publications has announced that the previously published biography of late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley, "Layne Staley: Angry Chair", will be reprinted under the new title "Layne Staley: Get Born Again". According to the publisher, it is a "brand new book" that has been revised and updated with the inclusion of two new chapters: "Hate To Feel" and "Get Born Again" as a revival of the acclaimed "Angry Chair" book. The covers, front and back, are new. More pictures and artwork have been added to this title in which the author — Argentinean journalist-author Adriana Rubio — transcribed, in full, Layne Staley's last interview, revealing the harsh truth behind heroin addiction and the reality of his family life.

Layne Staley died in April 2002. He was once on top of the music world as the lead singer for ALICE IN CHAINS and MAD SEASON. "Layne Staley: Get Born Again" is filled with exclusive interviews with his mother, Nancy, his sister, Liz, and Layne himself, as he broke his five-year public silence just months before his death. The book also includes pictures from Layne's childhood, drawings, poetry and a lot more.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, Rubio began the book with the Staley family's blessings, but the singer's mom later said it "lacked concern for basic human dignity" and withdrew support.

Rubio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a member of "The Latin American Journalists Federation" (FELAP) and also of "The Union Press Workers of Buenos Aires" (UTPBA). She is an investigative journalist who has published three books in the United States: "Dave Mustaine: Are you Ready to Take the Risk?" (Vantage Press), "Layne Staley: Angry Chair" (Xanadu Enterprises) and "Jim Morrison Ceremony" (ARTS Publications).

...I think AIC would have been better if Cantrell sang everything. Either way they were great, I just preferred Cantrell's voice to Staley's. His solo stuff was really good.

Considering the original book was no poorly written, I don't think I'll be too interested in checking this version out. The book turned out to be more about Adriana than it did Layne.

And if Cantrell sang everything, the band wouldn't be considered nearly as great as they are. He just doesn't have any real emotion in his voice when he sings. He just has a dull, country-like voice that just happened to sound really good in harmony with Layne's voice. Layne WAS Alice in Chains. To many people, including myself, his voice is what got people fascinated with Alice in Chains to begin with. The music that Cantrell wrote was amazing, but Layne's voice singing on top of it made it more than just music.

As much as I love the song "Don't Follow," I think I would find it unlistenable if Cantrell sang the whole thing. The only reason you listen to the first couple minutes is because you know once the bass and drums kick in, Layne is about to unleash and take the song to a level that Cantrell could never be capable of with his voice.

it's sad that everyone, including the surviving members of aic, are doing whatever they can to make $$$ off of the legend that is layne.

no layne= no aic.

I am a huge AIC fan. And I think Layne's voice was amazing. and while i disagree with kill_everything that jerry should have sang everything, i give him credit for recognizing cantrell's ability. I think it is a shame that jerry cantrell is SO overshadowed by Layne. I mean jerry sang at least harmony on almost every song, lead on a few, and most importantly (IMHO) wrote damn near every song (except for angry chair and head creeps and a handful of others). So there is no disrespect to Layne (wonderful singer and i have a lot of sympathy for him), but it is not fair that the other guys should have to live in his shadows.

Layne and Jerry both made AIC great. You can't pick one over the other. That's why I hate this whole AIC reunion. It's a bad idea and it's pretty disrespectful to Layne.

I hope my statement wasn't misunderstood, but that's the point i was trying to make. i think that the combo of layne and jerry was the key to success (and can't forget kinney and the 2 mikes). i just felt bad that jerry seems to always get the shaft when it comes to respect and was trying to say that he should be recognized for his contributions ALONG with layne.

A lot of people really overlook how much of an impact Layne Staley and Alice in Chains had in music. They were such a versitale band! I watched Pantera's Vulgar Video yesterday and there is that one clip of Layne and AIC jamming with Dime and the CFH. Miss them both!!!!

R.I.P. Layne and Dimebag

with the Rooster21 guy on pretty much all counts. That book was way more of a way for its writer to exorcise her own demons than it was about Layne. It was just extremely self-absorbed, VERY poorly-written, and unprofessional.

do not buy this book other than for the pictures & laynes artwork. this chick is a horrendous author, not to mention it was more about herself than Layne. Once again shes using Laynes name for profit. Very disrespectful to the memory of this talented man & his family.

Jerry is an entity all his own. Extremely talented guitarist, songwriter & singer. AIC wouldnt be as profound had Jerry not been apart of the band, same goes for Layne. They were both equally important & had a tremendous effect on music. They were very much the paul mccartney/john lennon duo of their time. I love them both.

i cant think of anyone who doesnt sing opera that has a vibrato like layne did. i dont remember who said it when they commented on one of the many recent AIC bmouth stories, but they said "AIC died on the couch." now thats the fuckin truth.

NOBODY CLOSE TO LAYNE SUPPORTS THIS PIECE OF SHIT!

Its a bunch of lies, assumptions and has a very colored view. That Rubio is just venting her own thoughts on the matter.

Thats the exact reason everyone invloved took their hands of the project when they saw what the final product was.

This author has no clue in my opinion.

I met Layne and spent most of an afternoon with him and his band in 1990 at the Cotton Club in Atlanta Ga. ANC opened for Extreme and yes I was there to see NUNO and got turned onto a band I hadn't heard of prior to that evening. Layne and I got stoned . He even signed the tape he gave me thanking me for the buzz and the promised support.

Not bragging just sharing a chance of a lifetime.
BELOW is one live pic from theat night, check out my view .
Layne was very nice and soft spoken. I remember sitting with him Jerry and Sean listening to Seatle bands doing Kiss covers.

When Layne came out on stage he picked up a flower pot and took the flower out and put the cover from the pot on his head and it made for a good shot. Check it out........below
RIP Layne I still have the things you gave me and miss you everyday. One thing I know for sure is fame killed the guy I met.

That suck that the two best bands from the 90s (Pantera and Alice In Chains) are gone forever. Those were two of the greatest bands of all time if you ask me. Alice in Chains music, to me, is way more heavy than any Metalcore, Hardcore, Death or Black Metal anyday. No bands will ever be able to hold a candle to them

Yeah Meat. i totally agree....i mean, THEM BONES...its fucking heavy as a really heavy thing. but theres some aic songs who are heavy without having heavy guitar parts and riffs, theyre just HEAVY by itselfs. Layne was and will always be my favorite singer of all time. I miss him everyday cuz always find me watching clips of AIC on youtube or the unplugged. He was a badass, like cantrell said one time in a interview.

Please.

Everybody here, just watch this fuckin video, ffs

Layne at his best shape. Tell me one singer that could top a performance like this. Just ONE and we will argue about that.

......this "book" is such a piece of crap.....

Maybe some day someone will write a real book about Layne & AIC....but this ain't it.....

Layne's family no longer endorses this & none of the other bandmembers ever contributed to it in any way, ever.....but like what was said, it's really a book about the author, anyway ~ so save your money for something better.....

None of you really knew who Layne Staley was. But you can thank that piece of SHIT dad of his for making his childhood life so miserable. Layne's dad is the one who should have overdosed. He left Layne twice. And the second time, his dad left him battleing his addiction all alone. Just like his song Nutshell says: Yet I fight this battle all alone. No one to cry to. No place to call home. And I find, keep repeteing in my head. If I can't be my own. I'd feel better dead! THAT! Is how Layne Staley felt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nutshell is DEEP! Not much words to it. But it is DEEP! And I cry hard everytime I hear it. Layne looked so sad and so unhappy on MTV Unplugged. Layne only wanted the Love he so looked for from his dad that he never got. Shame on Phil Staley. I hope he rots in HELL! Just leave Layne alone. Just do it!!!
