METALLICA: Video Of 'Orion' From ROCK AM RING Festival Posted Online

A video clip of METALLICA playing their rarely performed classic track "Orion" at the Rock am Ring festival in Nürburgring, Germany on Saturday, June 3 — which included a performance of the band's classic 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", in its entirety ( setlist) — has been posted at YouTube.com. METALLICA's Rock am Ring appearance was the opening show of the band's "Escape from the Studio '06" tour. The band played "Master of Puppets", in its entirety again Sunday night (June 4) at the Rock im Park festival ( setlist) in Nürnberg, Germany. (Thanks: Johan Mörling)

Goddamn it, I'm going to see them next thursday in Gelredome Arnhem (Netherlands). I hope they don't come up with this setlist again, I think it sucks.
When they are going to play the whole MOP album again, there is no surprise at all in the setlist. And 6 fucking songs from the Black Album and only 1 or 2 from RTL, KEA and AJFA? What the fuck is that?
The God that failed, for fuck's sake. Yawn. These are by no means the setlists from 3 years ago. Those were awesome.

They need to do a "Metallica" setlist, for everything up to and including the Black album, and then a "Shitallica" one, for everything after that.
As for doing a lot for their fans, I got two words - St. Anger. They owe their fans a fucking apology. And before some dickwad comes along and says they're free to do what they want, let's keep in mind that there were a lot of missed cues and off-key vocals on that album, which is inexcusable. Rough and raw is fine for a punk band, not for a metal band. It sounded like they listended to the fucking White Stripes for a month before going into the studio, hence St. Anger being a piece of shit.

Pretty good. I love Metallica and have been a fan for about 15 years but don't you guys get a bit tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. I really don't understand a guy like -nemesis-. I for one would rather hear st. anger played in it's entirety than a record that is 20 years old and everybody, including me, has listened to a zillion times.
I'd rather hear songs like Dirty Window, The Unknown Feeling, No Leaf Clover, -Human, Frayed Ends of Sanity, The Struggle Within, Don't Thread on Me, Carpe Diem Baby and other not worn out songs. So hearing Orion was pretty fresh but the entire MoP album? No thanks.

Sure they make some mistakes, but Metallica have never been perfect live, and playing live isn't about being perfect anyway. It's about giving it your all and they sure do. That brought tears to my eyes, simply amazing. Trujillo seriously kicks arse but I knew that already from listening to Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. He truly is Cliff's heir (no disrespect to Jason who did a great job in Metallica, but his style was too different from Cliff's).

That was the best part of that whole video. It looks like Metallica is starting to get a clue as to what made them in the first place. If Metallica plays the ENTIRE Puppets album when they tour the US I will DEFINITELY go. I have been on a personal Metallica boycott since after the Black Album. Hopefully the new album will be something to get excited about.

GOD damn anyone that thinks Trujillo can't play is a moron. He gave massive respect to Burton. I am looking forward to a new album with Trujillo putting his groove to the songs. Just go listen to some Suicidal Tendencies or Jerry Cantrell's Degradation Trip if you want good examples of his ability.

Althought ORION is my fav tallica song of all, I've long since lost interest in these guys.
Rob, what's with the faces. You look like you're in pain. Never realized that playing bass was so painful. Also, I know having the guitar (bass) strap low is macho and all but when you have to put your knee up to hold the bass, maybee you should consider tightning the strap a bit???

Umm bonehead, the purpose of metal is to make your next record better than the one before. metallica have done the exact opposite!!!!! They don't even play metal anymore. They are Hard Rock!!!!! The idea is to be more brutal, faster, and more technical then the next band. metallica has dumbed down there playing for all u 12 yr old little girls. Any self respecting metalhead has seen the decline of metallica. They sold out plain and simple, and to deny that is to be the blindest metallisheep of them all.

It's doesn't even almost make up for 10 years of complete bullshit, but at least it's the coolest thing they've done in ten years. (Which, as a side note, is kinda sad that covering an old song by their own band is the coolest thing they've done in ten years, but hey, whatever, we'll take what we can get at this point.)

I've been a long time Metallica fan. While I wasn't a huge fan of most of the 90's stuff, I actually thought St. Anger was cool. Unfortunately, the CD sucked production wise, but the DVD rehersal stuff was a lot better sounding. Whomever mentioned that Metallica sounded to punk on St. Anger should get a clue. Metallica was considered Punk in L.A. when they started out. I guess it's going back to their roots, which every band does once in a while. It helps them to remember where they came from, and I thought St. Anger was brilliant that way.
Anyways, I'm glad Metallica is celebrating MOP. It's a killer album, and it brings back a lot of memories, at least to me. It was kick ass music then, and still is. I'm not 16 anymore and only have that 1 band I need to idolize, I can listen to a variety of different bands/styles and like it all. What I do know, Metallica is still very metal, and their are some absolute idiots that post here. Being metal does not mean being hardcore or death metal, or whatever. Those are genres all born out of Metal.
There are, imho, actually few metal bands left these days that actually write really good songs. Yes, there's a lot of faster, more brutal, etc. But, very few good and memorable songs get written that way. Pantera was a great band at getting heavier, but not to the point where the actual song was lost. With the lack of bands that write good songs, I'm glad Metallica came back from comatose to start kicking ass again, and I hope they keep at it till their limbs fall off.

I do like to read people's comments, good or bad relating to Metallica's live performances.
All very interesting points. I saw them the other week at Download '06.
One question I have to ask you guys...You keep commenting on Lar's 'poor drumming' I'm not a drummer, how are you defining bad drumming? It's not like there's much room for variation in the 1st place!! Does he sound that bad?!
