MAX CAVALERA Slams 'Fake' SEPULTURA

Ex-SEPULTURA/current SOULFLY frontman Max Cavalera has slammed the current touring version of his former band as "fake" and has reiterated his desire to one day take part in a reunion of the group's classic lineup. When asked during a Sirius Satellite Radio interview last month if there have been talks between him and the guys in SEPULTURA about getting back together one day, Max said, "There's been a lot of talk — rumor and stuff. I don't know… What I know is that Igor [Cavalera, Max's brother and current SEPULTURA drummer] is not on tour [with SEPULTURA] right now [Editor's Note: Igor announced earlier in the year that he was taking a break from SEPULTURA's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their new son], and to me that's not SEPULTURA, man. I don't give a shit — that is not. We made the band, we created the band; it started with me and him. Andreas [Kisser, SEPULTURA guitarist] came way, way later in the picture. Paulo [Xisto Pinto Junior, SEPULTURA bassist], he got in the band 'cause he had a bass — his Dad bought a bass, [but Paulo] couldn't play. And I'm not trying to diss anybody, I'm just saying the facts — that me and Igor invented, created and carried… the Cavalera brothers carried SEPULTURA; we created it. So if it [the reunion] ever happens, it's gonna be [done] the right way for the right reason.
"I kind of compare it to parachuting — I never parachuted before, I wanna parachute one day. It's like the SEPULTURA reunion. It's like parachuting. I'm not doing it tomorrow, but I'd like to do it eventually, sometime. 'Cause I know what it did to people; it changed a lot of people's lives. My kids wanna see it. Richie's [Max's stepson] like, 'I wanna see SEPULTURA.' Zyon and Igor [Max's youngest son] are like, 'I wanna see SEPULTURA with Max — the real SEPULTURA, not the fake SEPULTURA.
"When the time comes and it happens, it will be for the right reason — I believe in all that kind of crazy shit. So it's gonna be done at the right time. I am right now where I am supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be, and when that happens, it will be the right time."

first off.. how did he hear a rumor that his brother was taking time off from the band to spend with his new wife and child..
its his fuckin brother.. shouldn't he hear that first hand and know that.. ? ?? i mean seriously..
and i mean if his brother (who is by the way still in the band.. unlike max..) is ok with it.. (which makes sense since they just released their best album in years) .. then who is he to say its wrong? he has no affiliation with the band anymore.. he needs to step off and worry about his own band.. which i wouldn't pick over any version of Sepultura any day..

Blackwater_Park, it wasn't as simple as Max just "walking out on the band". he felt betrayed by the other guys because they weren't that sympathetic to Dana's death at the time that the news broke, and the other guys played that festival show without Max despite what happened. not only that, but it must've been a difficult thing having your wife as the band manager when the other guys don't get along with her.

i have to admit i have the dante XXI cd and i have spun it many times and it just isn't as good as what it was when max was in sepultura. Don't get me wrong, it is good, just not as good as the real sepultura. I miss Max.

Last two soulfly records have been great AND have a had the same lineup. The latest Sepultura disc was killer as well. I think they should both go on tour together & Max could do a couple songs with his old band.

I think it would be awesome for them to reunite with all the original members. And "fuck you" to whomever thought Roots was a shitty album, moreover, it was an evolution from Chaos A.D. However as I intercede from writing the new Soulfly album I will have to say that this is going to be the darkest most sinister Soulfly album of all time. There will be nothing more horrifying in it's path. Not even Rob Zombie will be able to comprehend the true nature of this new found beast. Without Sepultura in the picture leaves Max's brother with nothing left but hatred and despair. Consumption of both their souls is at hand. Ridiculed and persecuted by the past. This will come to be after many attempts in shaping the feel to be set free. Bestial Devastation is a thing of the past. This war is far from over.

It's a bit too late. Green is there and is doing a fine job. As a performer he blows Max away. Songwritingwise Max could make a difference but Andreas is doing that pretty good as well. Don't know... bands should be real, not nostalgia... reunions... nah!

Ok first of all you non feeling bastards. You probably don’t know how it feels to loose a son or someone that you’re close with and having people that you work with including your brother giving you no sympathy, telling you to suck it up. Then having your band mates telling you that they don’t want your wife as a manager. Don’t tell me that you would just let your wife be fired and not sick up for her. He did that for a reason because his wife is more important to him then making music with people that don’t care about him. (Family First!) Don’t get me wrong, I hated when Max left but it’s not like Max was like ok I’m just leaving, see ya. There are probably reasons why he left the band that we don’t know, so don’t just say you hate Max because of what you read in the papers or on the internet. Another thing is why didn’t his brother stick up for him? there brother right? So I can see where Max felt betrayed and not wanted after Dana was killed and than having his band mates not wanting is wife as a manager. I would have left the band too. I would love to see a reunion. I agree with Max about it not being the real Sepultutra with out him and Igor. I think it would be cool if Soulfly and Sepultura went on tour together and Max sang a couple of song with Sepultura

Sounds to me like Max is getting a bit homesick. It's a joke saying this isn't real Sepultura. How long have Kisser and the others been in the band now?
I saw their tour with In Flames and they're still as amazing as ever. Derrick Green is a very good frontman.

Max if you read this, as a fan this is the final straw! I love Sepultura. I like Soulfly and Nailbomb, but what you just said was just plain uncalled for. You’re gonna have to do more than try to make a more “back to Arise” sounding recording to get respect back. I ashamed, I’d expect this shit for Kerry King, Dave Mustaine but not you.

In my opinion, Sepultura died the day they decided to record a single note after Arise. Sepultura doesn't mean what it did in the eighties so it really doesn't matter any more. Max left the band long after it was dead and it won't come back to life if he returns. On the other hand, Monsignior Green simply takes the band further along the downward spiral that started with Chaos A.D.
We're better off forgetting about this petty squabbling and just getting out the old vinyls and remebering that once upon a time, Sepultura were a groundbreaking band that transcended any accusations of mediocrity.

We're about to witness this reunion.The reason Igor step out of the tour is to put pressure on Andreas and Paulo. But as Kisser wrote the whole Dante he wants to tour that album. Ego thing, it won't be long until he realize that Sepultura without the Cavaleras ain't Sepultura. And Soulfly with Igor, Max and Rizzo would be more Sepultura than the current line-up no disrespect to Derrick though!

Three points:
1) Max is right, it ain't Sepultura without a single Cavalera.
2) It also isn't Sepultura without Andreas. It takes all three. The rest are expendable.
3) A reunion would be complete crap if they're not even on speaking terms. Especially Igor and Max, if they don't even talk to each other and are brothers, what kind of chemistry can you really expect to see on stage?
In conclusion, it may happen...but it shouldn't.

The whole thing with the breakup thing, it was no ones fault except gloria. She fucking destroyed sepultura, she basically said to max "it's me or them".
Seps have completley rebuilt themselves now though, so I wouldn't want to see an "anthrax". Sure, a reunion gig for charity or something would be good, but derrick would have to stay.
