METALLICA: New Song Video/Audio From Berlin Posted Online

Two low-quality video clips of METALLICA performing an as-yet-untitled new song during their headlining appearance Tuesday (June 6) at Waldbuhne in Berlin, Germany have been posted online at YouTube.com: Part#1, Part#2. As on the first two dates on the band's current "Escape From The Studio '06" tour, METALLICA played their entire 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", at the Berlin show, including rarely performed tracks such as "Orion" and "Disposable Heroes". The concert's second encore also featured a rendition of the RAMONES classic "Commando", with members of support band AVENGED SEVENFOLD joining in on vocals. "Master of Puppets" came out in the spring of 1986 and was METALLICA's first gold album and mainstream success. It featured staples of the band's live set such as "Battery", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and the title track. It was also the last METALLICA album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed later that year in a tour bus crash. METALLICA will head back into the studio to resume work on their ninth studio effort after completing this summer's festival run.

best part is the guitar solo and the part that follows it...umm last megadeth cd was way better... I must wait and see before I get excited...I thought the song had a lot of double bass??? none in those clips

No I'm sorry - even from that it sounds a damn sight better than anything on St Anger. There's more going on and he's actually singing for a start. I do wish people would lay off Metallica - five superb albums is better than most bands out there. There is a bit of hope for the new material for me but with that back catalogue I'm not that bothered.

It's a little hard to hear at first. Then it kicks in and all I hear is crap. When are they going to learn that everything since the Black is shit. Bands like Municiple Waste are putting out better records than them at he moment. The vocals imediatly(?) reminded me of a song from the Load era, which really licked balls. Hope they play all of Master....at Download on Saturday.

its sounds very good for only 3 minutes of the bad quality vid.The riffs and solos are definately justice album types riffs with the load/reload tuning.james singing sounds good too.
I want to hear the full 8 minute version in good quality.
metallica are definately back, cant wait for the new album to come out.

I became a fan since i heard MOP and RTL. When i hear this clips especially clip part II then I'm really excited. But there is one problem. James is singing as he's doing since Load. I don't like that.
So my advice to james: PLEASE KEEP YOUR VOICE LOW!

I just watch and listen and I am happy that Kirk is now playing solo! While I am listen to the new song, it sounds like old a mix between Master of Puppets/Black !!!! I can't wait for Metallica new album soon!!!

It's not that bad. I really like the opening riff, and the second video is even better. It's nice to see the solos back. I don't care much for the vocals, though. I would rather have a full-on thrash assault, but oh well. If I'm lucky, there actually will be a few of those on the new album. I'm a bit impressed, and I hope they play this or another new song at one of their upcoming shows. Next time, people will be more prepared to get a better quality sound.

I can hear lots of double bass. Its a little blurred out but its definately doublebass. 10 seconds into the first clip you should hear the DB.

All I can say is Metallica Fucking Rules! You guys that are hating, are going to be the first to buy the new album. I just saw them at Rock im Park 2006 in Germany and the show fucking ruled as usual. First time in the 9 times that I have seen them that they played all of Master of Puppets in one show!
Just wait to you hear the new album, and the haters will be silenced. The problem with the haters is they are all 14 year old kids who jump on band wagons and fucking think they are cool. Get over it and go home to your parents. Isnt it dinner time? Dont you have school tomorrow?

When I heard the first part, I wasn't all that excited but didn't think it was bad or anything. I then heard the second half and thought "holy fucking shit, these guys are really putting a lot of thought into writing this new material" because it was the most complex and hard hitting new shit I have heard them play in about 15 years. It reminds me a bit of the heavier parts of One, particularly the solo. Anyone who listened to the second part and said it sucked must be into nu-metal or some kind of Lacuna Coil type bullshit because it fucking kicked ass. Metallica seemed to be damned if they do and damned if they don't because in the last week, they have proven how much they still kick ass but the bashers won't give an inch in fear of their "metal-ness".

I heard Slayers new songs "Cult" yesterday... and I thought it was decent. Your typical Slayer song... sick bass-drumming (ala Lombardo) - but nothing special...
And... now I just heard this 3 min clip of Metallica's new song. The sound was quite shitty... but still...
I FUCKING LOVED IT!
And the part around the solo was SICK!!! Fucking awesome! And to those who couldn't hear any double-bass - it's there... just ten seconds into the song... listen closely. Unfortunately, the sounds is bad and you don't hear it as clean as you'd like!
Wonder how the full song sounds...

Metallica have seemingly cast a shadow of their former selves. While their work post TBA have been decent in terms of "rock&roll", this new snippit indicates a more aggressive style ala ...AJFA-TBA blend. More of a metal feel, thats for sure. Although it's much too soon to discern anything definative. We will just have to wait and see.
BTW
Slayers: Cult, sounds like a track that can immediately follow "War Ensemble" on the same record. Same old riffs, no suprises. Same "Jesus sucks" "religion blows" concept. Overdone, overplayed. Slayer is predictable, except for the deal that has them selling thier single exclusively through HOT TOPIC. Now that was a real suprise!

Even in Saint Anger James only used the baritone guitar on Invisible Kid, which is tuned lower than Korn itself.
This song is tuned to D, so it´s not tuned waaay down, just like I predicted on the other thread, it´s the same tuning as The Thing that Should Not Be and Sad But True...
The riffs sound good, the tone is a little weird, I liked the solo and the second part but somehow the vocals seem to disappoint me... lets just hope...

It´s tuned to C#, because they are tuning half step down since the load days so James vocals can reach the higher notes.
Just heard it again and I like the riffs... but the vocals sound like Reload...

I got to admit, the solo sounded great. Kirk was always an awesome guitarist, I mean c'mon he learned from Joe Satriani.
Didn't hear any double-bass though. But, we'll all have to wait until next year though. I think James's vocals need to sound a bit tougher. Perhaps he should take some lessons from John Tardy.

The drumming may be better, but there aren't any riffs that stand out or sound great, there is no crunch to it either. The singing sucks as well. Pretty monotonous. Nice try.

suck some serious ass, and james' singing is awful as well as the guitar sound, sounds like they are using telecasters through fender amps or something. Lars' 20 seconds of double bass surely was a little much for him to handle as the rest of the song is the usual boring bass-snare-bass-snare just like the black album.
The only thing worthwhile, was the solo and the riff following it before the main riff came back in, they sounded pretty damn good. I hope there is less random pentatonic wankering and more thought out, melodic solos, and of course, MUCH less wah than before.

it's got a "Sad but True" vibe to it. The vocals need some adjusting but that's normal, it's still on a demo level. Cool solo too. The new album sounds promising.
