GUNS N' ROSES: London Gig Leaves Fans Stranded

According to Virgin.net, GUNS N' ROSES made a controversial return to the U.K. stage on Wednesday night (June 7) — leaving many fans stranded in London after their set ran drastically late. The group arrived on stage over an hour late for their comeback show at London's Hammersmith Apollo and the gig did not finish until 1:00 a.m. — long after the trains had stopped running. Many furious fans, who had booed for half-an-hour before the band hit the stage, were left without a way of getting home or were forced to leave before the end of the group's 130-minute show. Singer Axl Rose unveiled a new seven-piece line-up and played four songs from forthcoming album "Chinese Democracy" in a set that was littered with costume changes and expensive pyrotechnics. But the biggest cheers were saved for hits such as "Welcome To The Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine", "November Rain" and "Paradise City", which, ironically for the stranded fans, features the line "Won't you please take me home?"

in NYC all 4 nights, the trains stopped running at 1:41 and 2of the 4 shows ended after that

I was there last night and bottom line nobody gave 2 shits that the band were late, if anything it made it even better when the gig started. The atmosphere was amazing and any boos were irnoic to try to get thme out. The show was awesome and I would have walked home anyway just to be there. Who gives a fuck if the trains had stopped - they don't run anyway

You know, Gn'R is a good band and if they ran late once and awhile that would be ok. But, Axl is notorious for this shit. My only question to him is where is the respect and gratitude to the fans who helped you achieve your goals? The least you can do is show up to work on time.

I saw them here in Madrid in the first show of their Euro-trek and they were not one but two hours late. I thought they were still in the States and they would not show up.
The concert finished at 02:40, so anyone can imagine how we all felt the next day at work.
And the show wasn't worth the wait, it was pretty boring to say the least.

What the fuck are all those pussys moaning about the gig finishin late for?! I was there and the delay served to add to the anticipation and excitment. Axel didn't disappoint either. All those who are moaning are forgetting rock isn't about turning up on time and some fancy coporate event. Its meant to be rough, drug-fuelled hedonism - and the new Guns certainly provide that!

BIASED ARTICLE. The reviews I read of the show are great.
The Brits are a little upset cuz their train system apparently runs thier lives and schedules.
And a GNR show ending at 1:00 AM is f'n EARLY!
Anyone who expects GNR to take the stage on time lives in a fantasy world and has not kept up with this trend since, oh, forever.

After new GNR hit the stage, the whole damn place erupted with boos! They thought they were getting a GNR show and Axl walked out with a mismatched group of no-namers!

Great Stuff!! Costume changes. Very Gay. What a shadow of the non- pretentious band that was once G'N'R. Harley T-shirts, Blue Jeans and Jack Daniels have given way to Mardi Gras Masks, Dread locks, football Jerseys and A midget. Why does rock frontman EGO take down some of the greatest. David Lee Roth and AXL Rose had the chance to rule the world for 30-40 years but something as gay as a giant ego has ruined them both.

Why stupid yanks have to make it a "pussy British" thing with the lateness. Nobody there gave a fuck about it being late and nobody afterwards cared the trains had gone. Some gimp journalist didn't know what to write and thought a bit of controversy would do it
To say Axl started "being gay" and wearing gay clothes once he became famous is bullshit. They were glam rock long before they were famous and he was wearing frigging fur coats before the height of his success
The b and being late isn't disrespect. They played great music before they came on and coming on late only gets the crowd going -it is not a sign of meltdown. Every band comes on late, Axl just pushes it to the limit and makes for an all in better show. He performed for 2/12 hours which is more than can be said for the majority of bands nowadays

Knowing full well Axl's past history with timekeeping, I planned ahead enough to make sure I didn't have to use the shitty public transport! A lot of naive people were there to think he was gonna turn up dead on time, just so they catch their pissing train!
The boos stopped and all was forgotten when they came on and bust straight into 'Welcome To The Jungle', it set the tone and Axel absolutely tore the place apart. Thats what rock n f'n roll is all about, no pre-written script, no time constraints, a don't give a fuck attitude with amazing tunes that everyone can have a good time to!
Don't comment on what you don't know about, before I saw him last night I had doubts about his voice, but that guy can turn it on when he likes and his voice is still awesome! He genuinely looked like he was happy to be there and was enjoying every minute of it, long may it continue!
And the karoake comments that seem to be a common theme. So he wants to play shows with the new members, whats he gonna do? Play ALL new songs when he has got all the hits that everyone wants to hear as well?? Do me a favour! Velvet Revolver play a couple of GNR songs and can't detatch themselves completely from their past! Why should Axl do that? He has every right to play them with a new band! Even Audioslave play Rage songs now and couldn't resist it either!
Lets hope the Chinese Democracy debacle is resolved soon, I don't think any album can live it to 10 years hype but I just want to hear it now.
And less of the pussy jibes at the English, no one gave a shit it was late!

I saw them on the Illusions tour at Madison Square Garden and had the same train problem. We bolted after the last song to make the train on time.
Axl has every right to play GnR songs. He should be embarassed to call that band Guns N Roses. I don't understand why he wouldn't just call it Axl Rose. It's definitely a solo album and tour.

well, youshould all be happy that Axl actually turned up at all by the sounds of his past history! Last time i saw him perform was on tv a couple of years ago at some mtv award shit, and he looked so fat and disgusting and couldnt sing for shit! but i love all their old stuff and if they are bringing out something new, then yay! I will definately listen to it. How come all the bands are so old these days? Most of the people are getting to be in their 40's but the young kids still love them! Good n ya guys for keeping going! i am 37 and most are my age and its so funny when a 16 year old reckons they like Metallica, acdc, or GnR and they are our age! ha! and they think we are old!

This band is NOT Guns n Roses. Cry all you like, but it's the goddamn TRUTH.
Save your money and go and see a real band like Velvet Revolver who actually put on a great show, turn up on time and play shitloads of NEW songs that have actually been RELEASED.
They only play GnR covers in the encore - so they're not relying on past glories like ol' Botox face Axl continues to.

I was at the Hammersmith Apollo gig and the show was awesome.
Have you noticed that there is not one comment slating either the show or Axl from anyone that actually was at the gig.
Of course Axl is going to be late on stage, but hey, that just leaves more time to get drunk in the pub before going into the sauna that was the Hammersmith Apollo on wednesday night.
Obviously the show was going to run later than Londons public transport. As the average age of a Gn'R fan these days has got to be over 30 I am assuming these people have jobs - get a cab for christs sake. Although I am guessing that the only people actually worried about not being able to get home were the full of sh** journalists that have so far reveiwed the concert.
As for British Pussies, get your Yankie ass over here and I'll meet you in the mosh pit at Donnington tomorrow and show you British Pussies. We'll kick your ass, and I'm a girl.
Of course the band are not going to be the same as the original line up, anyone expecting that would be deluded, but what we did get was an awesome show from a rock God who has been missed for the last decade, any opportunity to see Axl is one not to be missed by any true Gn'R fan.
Yes Slash, Duff etc onstage with Axl would be awesome, but unfortunately that ain't gonna happen and we've got to move on, Velvet Revolver rock, the new look Gn'R rock, move on.....
Can't wait to see more over the next month!!

This site isnt kidding around anymore. They are going all out on axl. They post story that says "BREAKING NEWS: Axl uses an OXYGEN MASK", when in fact he has used one since his appetite days. Then this story, about how OH MY GOD, the GNR show started late and some people missed their train.
If they were real fans they woud know that every GNR show starts late, there is no way around it. Next thing you know there will be a story about how the tour bus almost hit a car, and some how it was Axl's fault.

I've had a quick read thru sum of the comments posted firstly who cares if they miss a ride home you got to see GNR 12 yrs after the band broke up. I went to see them last nite in dublin and they were fuckin fantastic. And so what if Axl is doing drugs he still sings at his best. All true guns n roses fans have waited about 12 years for this so really what difference does a few more hours make? Why bother to post if you have nothing nice or constructive to say about him....velvet revolver are good but they are just a band..seeing GnR was like a whole show it was totally worth the wait and more! As in fact we were qued up waiting outside for 5 hours

I'd like to start by saying that we paid in total £80 for the tickets and over £25 for travel costs to travel to the venue (which was over 2 hrs away).
After carefully working out a route and studying the train time tables to make sure i could get home okay i set off and arrived at the venue on time, 16:30 (the doors were due to open at 17:30). Grabbed a beer or six and sat outside watching people fkin about in the water feature which is situated directly outside the arena.
All good so far...
Go in to the arena at 18:30 ready for Sebastian Bach (Skid rows singer) who appeared dead on time and put on a half decent show.
19:30 sebastian off and Bullet for my Valentine appear at 19:45 and scream for an hour and then bugger off (thankfully).
So its now 20:45.... GnR due on at 21:30.....
In short they leave us standing with no clue of whats going on until 22:40, when finally axel rose appears with a huge pyro show and welcome to the jungle. No apology what so ever.
To catch the last train we had to leave at 23:40. Although gutted being positive, i thought atleast we have an hours worth of watching GnR play some classic tunes.. Right?
NO... 30 minutes of my limited time was spent watching a piano being wheeled arond the stage with banal solo's being played in the background by various new members of the group; a poor attempt too keep the crowd entertained....
Im very very disappointed and will not be attending any of their gigs in the future.
