METALLICA Drummer Donates Art For Charity
- June 11, 2006
|
|
According to South Africa's Tonight, artwork contributed by METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich and other celebrities is currently on display at a four-day festival called Postive, raising funds for the Tapologo Aids Hospice in the North West Province of South Africa, which started on June 8 and is scheduled to end today, June 11. It is the largest collection of artworks in the country, with over 100 artists exhibiting. Along with Lars, celebrities like Aretha Franklin, Katie Melua as well as local celebs Cindy Nel, Gary Player and Makhaya Ntini have created art for the exhibitions. All artworks are on sale. Call this what you will, whether it's a "money grabbing cock" showing that he's a good person at heart, or whatever.
I have no problem at all with Lars Ulrich (Although along with the rest of Metallica, I pity the hell out of him. Watch Some Kind Of Monster and just see how they have changed from firey asskicking kids to bitter and sad old men who need group therapy) despite how foolish he sometimes makes himself appear.
So- Woo, go Lars.

Think of all those bucks Lar$ has spend on coke over the years. He could probably have built ten AIDS hospices for those money.

I think this shows Lars really isn't the money grabbing jackass people make him out to be as far as the Coke comment that dates from a previous thread I know Lars was JOKING.
It's quite apparent judging by the way the comment came about. He was already seeing Connie around the time Download 2004 came out and really had no real reason to snort coke with his ex wife and 2 prostitutes.
Another thing: When was the last time you did anything that inspired millions of people?
When was the last time you put THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of asses in seats.
When was the last time you made material that sold for ANY great accumulation and got you ANY real profit?
And
When was the last time YOU donated something of great value to you off to some charity and not thought of your own self before making the decision to go with the latter?

I hope one day the music that i play can make me some profit and i can do things like that. Besides the coke comment. There are plenty of bands that did that back then. Not just lars.

"now seriously. it seems like metallica is changing a bit. the new song actually has a resemblence of metal in it,"
Ok, let's speak seriously, and without the usual bullshit sarcasm I usually use:
I have heard the new song, and I honestly think that they guitar riffs, vocals, and even double-bass drumming sound very similar to most of the stuff we heard on St. Anger. The lead? A good touch, but it still smacks very much of the leads Kirk used to play. I mean, yeah, I understand it IS Kirk, but it just sounds like he's really repeating himself here, instead of doing something fresh. Maybe this is the best he can do considering that he wrote no new leads for St. Anger, and the only leads he played on tour were the old ones.
I just don't see where this is a "return" to anything great. The songwriting sounds very much like St. Anger, which they origionally said they were moving away from.

The Metallica are not such bad people after all. That whole napster thing in the 90's was all bullshit. Those fuckers where doing something illegal. I mean how is a band gonna get the credit for all their work when they can get it free online?
