GUNS N' ROSES Reunited With IZZY STRADLIN At U.K.'s DOWNLOAD Festival

According to NME.com, GUNS N'ROSES singer Axl Rose was reunited with ex- GNR guitarist Izzy Stradlin at the Download festival in England Sunday night (June 11). Midway through the set, Rose introduced original member Stradlin for three songs — "Patience", "Night Train" and "I Used To Love Her". It was only Stradlin's second show back with the band in over a decade, following an appearance in New York last month. As was the case with the New York shows last month and some of the festival appearances on the current European run, former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach joined GUNS N' ROSES on stage for "My Michelle". GUNS N' ROSES took the stage half an hour early, but Rose easily made up the time in a series of sensational walk-offs, according to NME.com. After slipping over during "Sweet Child O'Mine", Rose annnounced that the band were experiencing "technical difficulties" and left the stage for five minutes while a guitarist played an instrumental version of "Don't Cry". The singer had already abandoned the show once before, leaving the crowd with an instrumental version of CHRISTINA AGUILERA's hit "Beautiful". I thought Axl's voice was good last night, the thing that pissed me off was the constant stopping of the show.
I also found it childish when the bass player threatned to go home if he got another bottle of piss thrown at him. It was stupid that people did that but still childish to spoil it for the 80,000 ish others that were there.

It seems Axl and friends got a little bitch slapping while playing the Download Festival in the UK today! The band was treated to bottles filled with piss from the crowd!
This below (typos and all) was taken from HERE!
The fans started throwing piss bottles at the band and Axl and the band left the satge for a while. Tommy got pissed and told the crowd ' That if someone threw one more fuckin bottle that he was leaving" . Izzy did come out and play and that help calm down the crowd but they were pretty much vicious tot he band. I heard Axl slipped on stage and flipped somebody off . I think the band was also mad at the soundboard guy. I am listening to kerrang and reporters are asking to some of the fans that were there and they are crucifying this band. Donnington is a very special place for GNR history it's where they broke out . Sad to see that 19 yrs later they totally do not care for Axl . THis is a tough blow for new GNR I hope Axl recovers from this , he still has more shows to play. I'll give Axl credit , he did come back out on stage a nd finished the show withn a kick ass set but it diodn't matter the fans were hating them. They didn't deserve the setlist they got , and they sure as hell did not deserve Izzy . Stradlin played 5 or 6 songs with them, so that was cool. The fans were also hating on the new songs pretty much calling it shit. As far as the fans are concerned Metallica ruled Download and GNR were the biggest joke of the entire festival. I had a bad feeling about this show for GNR, Download fans have always been knows to be cold hearted people who will not hesitate on hating and retaliating towards a band. it looks like they choose GNR to be theat band this yr. WHAT A DISASTER THIS IS FOR GNR . Axl needs foreign fans to support him or he is done. United States has already turned his back on him. Looks like you haters got your wish , let the bashing begin.

I don't give a fuck how bad the band is, they are simply trying to perform for peoples entertainemnt and they DO NOT deserve to have things thrown at them. These people in the crowd need a severe beating. If you don't like the bands who are playing, go watch another band on anotehr stage or don't even bother turning up. Simple!

The people that know are the people that were there but the blame doesn't lie with one party alone.
No you should never throw bottles at piss at anyone but you should never send out two guitarists - who have only played in the UK a couple of times remember - and have them perform a Cristina Aguilera instrumental in front of a Donnington crowd. When the band did come back they were at a pivitol point in terms of crowd mood - what do they do? They play a new song. Bad move. But they turned things around pretty well after that and there were some major cock-ups from the crew that led to the early problems - he asked them to clear up the stage three times until something was done. Heads will roll.
And contrary to uninformed rumour - Axl's voice was spot on throughout, he even pulled The Blues off. The band seemed very quiet compared to Metallica the night before and didn't quiet work as a unit. It certainly wasn't a car crash performance though.

i don't know if you guys were at the same festival, but mr rose was fucking brilliant. yes there were lots of haters, but they were pissed-up troublemakers who had already decided to bottle him before he even took to the stage. yes, he got stroppy and walked off stage a couple of times, but he came back on and did an amazing finish to the set to a great response from the MAJORITY of the crowd. There were definitely a few boos and idiots trying to spoil it for other people, but they probably numbered about 2,000...and there was over 70,000 there. Clearly GNR are not the band they were and Axl is a mental case. You may also think his new stuff is shite but anyone who thinks his voice is gone is talking total shite. Helaso put on a great show of over 20 songs, 10 of which were from Appetite...go see them!!!

to some kind of monster: They're not simply playing to entertain the crowd. They've dug up classics and are now exploiting them for cash. If it was really for the music Axl would have started another band or a Solo project. He wouldn't keep the name GNR by himself.
I'm against the comeback 100%. I've always said GNR should stay dead. I'm still going to see them at Graspop but it's going to be with mixed feelings. I admit that his voice is still the same from what I've heard on the leaked tracks but this just doesn't feel like GNR to me any more. I think the old songs will sound good but I will just have moral objections.
I'm glad they're not headlining on the last day at least. Motörhead will most likely blow them away.

i was at this gig, and this is how i saw it....
Axl Rose slipped on stage, and flipped out and decided to stop the set due to "technical problems". soon after, the "new" guitarists set about with their solos, but these didnt go down to well with parts of the crowd (shouts of SLASH, SLASH!). next, bottles were aimed at the bassist Tommy and he reacted by getting Rose's mic and telling the crowd he'd "go home" if the bottles of piss didnt stop. This was received with boos from the majority of the crowd. from then on however, they played a great set and the arrival of Izzy Stradlin really helped the crowd get into it. it was basically the actions of a few stupid individuals, but the band didnt help themselves the way they reacted. they played a very good set and Axl's vocals were very good.
it was definitely Metallica's festival though....they were truly amazing.

They didnt sound like a band. They didnt look like a band. The new guitarist is a farmer. Axl Pose has lots of money as we can all tell. Good for Axl but he can go and rub it in other peoples noses. This is the UK dude! Cash is all U have. Good luck, Go and spend it before your dead :0)
Ive never seen fans walking away mid gig. Quite a sight.

This genertion of kids have no idea what they where about back in 1987. I know the new GNR are nothing compared to the original line up. But still they are giving everyone a great show.

thethingthatshouldnotbe everything you said was true, it started of bad ( I thought it was a covers band for a while) they picked it up and I think the second half was pulled off by the band.
Seeeing Seb perform after all this time was one of my download highlights.
But yes it was Metallica's show

man... the facts hear r wrong- i was there... firstly axel had problems with his ear monitors and was shouting at the p.a. crew at the side of the stage about 2 songs in and left the stage earlier than reported, for about a minute while he had a go at the p.a. crew- they then proceed with the show but durin the next song axel ran foreword 2wards the crowd and sliped nearly hittin the ground- then the whole band left the stage bar finck who played an improv. slow tempo solo, which was reseaved by the crowd with a luke warm responce- THERE WAS NO BOTTLES OF PISS THROWN THOUGH- the band then took the stage again- what happened next was the real drama and seems 2 hav not been picked up by the "people who were there"- the bassist tripped on what can only been a camera cable, and in the heat of the moment threw his base on the ground jumped on it- then spotted the cameraman directly on front of him and threw the bass at the cameraman hitting him and the camera with the base (dont know how this has not been highlighted yet)- he then stormed off stage, and as this was near the end of the song it went relitively unnoticed ( i was right at the front as allways and saw this all- this is a first hand account)- the exceptional ron thal aka bumblefoot was then left 2 entertain the crowd, and entertain he did goin down very well!!! THERE WERE CHANTS OF WHERES SLASH? AT THE START OF HIS AND FINKS SOLOS, BUT THESE WERE ABOUT 100 PEOPLE AT MOST AGED BETWEEN 12 AND 16!!!! fortis also played a solo set which he usually doesnt do and was also impressive, as were fink and thal, all with very destinct styles- I HAVE 2 RAISE THE POINT AGAIN THAT NO BOTTLES OF PISS WERE THROWN- THE BASSIST WHEN SAYIN NOT 2 THOW PISS WAS INTISAPATING THE CROWD REACTION 2 HIS ACTIONS- if there was they didnt reach anywhere near the stage as they would hav had 2 hav gone past my head!!!! IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT 2 NOTE THAT THE CROWD WAS NOT A TYPICAL DONINGTON CROWD-- THIS IS WHY THERE WAS NO TROUBLE!!! --- I WAS DOWN THE FRONT IN PRETTY MUCH THE SAME PLACE 4 ALL THE KEY BANDS- AND THE CROWD 4 GNR WERE LESS INTENCE THAN THE TOOL CROWD!!! THE CROWD GATHERED WERE ON AVERAGE ABOUT 16 DOWN THE FRONT AND WAS NOT VERY TIGHTLY PACKED DUE 2 THE PRODIGY PLAYIN- everyone who crowd surfed fell flat on their arses!!!! despite the drama by drama, and esp. the poor behaviour of the bassist, it is very important 2 note that gnr were if not the "original lineup" superb performance and sound wise- with esp. the 3 guitarists all takin turns at soloing- with finck style bein similar 2 slash (in his hay-day- hes def. takin a dip in his live playin) thals being a crazy techinal style ala buckethead, john 5, and fortis' style mirroring the likes of jeff beck- THIS BAND WERE TIGHT MUSICALLY, AND COMPARED 2 THE CLASSIC LINEUP WERE NOT DRUNK!!! AND WERE AT THE TOP OF THEYRE GAME- WAS ACTUALLY EXPECTING A DIP IN AXLS QUALITY OF SINGING, BUT WAS JUST AS GOOD AS HE ALLWAYS HAS BEEN- it was also great 2 see izzy back, and i feel this could be a regular performance, although i cant see him rejoining as they would have 2 sack fortis, and that would be stupid- this lineup is good and unless the original lineup dicide they want a part of it, i cant see stradlin comin in 2 replace someone, allthough they may become a 4 guitar band- theyre tight enough 2 do it- seriously tight---IN CONCLUSION, MY VIEW OF GNR DOES NOT HAVE ANY BIAS 2 IT- I KNOW MY GNR (AS WELL AS THE CAREERS OF THE NEW MEMBERS, AND THEY AINT JUST 'RANDOMS'), BUT DID NOT FORM AN OPINION OF THIS NEW LINEUP TILL I SAW IT, AND WAS IMPRESSED- AXEL IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A TWAT, BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? AT LEAST HE HAS FINALLY REALISED THAT "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!" AND THEY DID THIS AND TURNED THE TIMID DONINGTON CROWD ROUND

I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE COMMENTS OF: "AXL'S VOICE HAS GONE" ARE COMING FROM, I SAW GNR IN DUBLIN AND HIS VOICE WAS AS GOOD AS IT EVER WAS. MY ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THAT THEY DIDN'T PLAY FOR LONGER.

I have to agree with laynestaleyfan, that article is bullshit. I was also at Download but from reading the NME article it doesn't sound like their reporter was!
For starters it wasn't Axl who threated to leave if people kept throwing bottles it was the bassist, what kind of music journalist doesn't know which one Axl Rose is!? Also they weren't 30 minutes early more like 5/10 min.
As for people complaining about him walking off stage perhaps it was because initially there were sound problems which needed to be fixed, and then he because he slipped on the stage, which was wet because some morons were throwing open bottles of piss at it.
And regardless of why he walked off who really wants to watch a perfectly behaved and polite Axl Rose? It wouldn't be him if he played a perfect set and didn't throw a strop! I think some people in the crowd at Download simply didn't understand who they were watching, either that or they were totally disrepectful little shits who had no place at a major rock festival watching bands like G'N'R and Metallica. No one deserves bottles of piss thrown at them.
