METALLICA: Video Of New Song From DOWNLOAD Festival Posted Online

An audience-shot, amateur video clip of METALLICA performing an as-yet-untitled new song during their headlining appearance Saturday (June 10) at the Download festival at Donington Park, Leicestershire, England has been posted online at YouTube.com. As has been the case with all the previous concerts on the band's current European tour, METALLICA played their entire 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", during the Download show, including rarely performed tracks such as "Orion" and "Disposable Heroes". The concert's second encore also featured a rendition of the MISFITS classic "Die, Die My Darling", with members of TRIVIUM and other bands joining in on vocals. "Master of Puppets" came out in the spring of 1986 and was METALLICA's first gold album and mainstream success. It featured staples of the band's live set such as "Battery", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and the title track. It was also the last METALLICA album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed later that year in a tour bus crash. METALLICA will head back into the studio to resume work on their ninth studio effort after completing this summer's festival run. (Thanks: Mushwherritt)

and I still don't like some of the verse it doesn't suit James' voice but otherwise his voice was on top form. The guitar tone is similar to puppets although it's hard to hear from this recording

there are some slight changes. James's vocal delivery, some of the riffs are changed slightly, and i think some of the lyrics have been changed.

I'm still missing some aggression. The vocals are better, but the song just aint good enough. I love Metallica, but this song is to weak, to repetitive, and theres no real finale on it.

At least I can say that it kicks any new song I've heard from Slayer! Who the hell still sings "666" and growls for entire songs? How cliche and cheesy is that???

I've listened to the song several times now. It definitely grows on you.
The main and secondary riffs aren't jaw dropping but they are decent. James sounds like he is singing like justice/black album days in my opinion. Kirk's guitar definitely has a more modern tone to it, similar to St. Anger but there is definitely lots of sounds that come from there roots. Lars, well what can I say, that is the best drumming he has played in 3-5 years. The beginning drums sound overly simplified and the doublebass has no dynamic style to it.
Bottom line, I am liking this song more and more. I'm really looking forward to the studio album version. I think if you listen to just pieces of the song, it is average, but the wholw song together has a much better flow. I absolutely love the Chorus, gives me that feeling I get when I hear a good Metallica song.

of that song are from 05:05 – 05:35, + the double bass drums.
The rest of it is mundane, slow and lame, just like we've come to expect from Metallica for the past 17 years.
JUSTICE was their last good album, you fucking sheep!

I think the crowd reaction says it all, boring. That was a very listless crowd. I have never seen a Metallica crowd so bored. And Hetfields voice is so shot. I wish they would hang it up because now they are just soiling themselves. Watch for them to do a North American tour with Avenge Sevenfold or someone else that sucks. By comparison, when I saw Tool at Coachella, the crowd was absolute bonkers. Metallica today is like Barry Bonds without steroids, NOT THE SAME.

As an avid Metallica supporter, defender, and fan (always have been, always will be).... I think they can do much better than this. I hope this song is in its early stages and the rest of the material is much better. There are sections of the song that hearken back to the old days, but for the most part, I get the feeling that this sounds like St. Anger/Load with a faster, more Metallica-like guitar solo. If the entire album was like this song, I would consider it a failure and completely unacceptable by Metallica's standards that seem to be sinking lower and lower as the years pass. I wasn't too keen on St. Anger, so I don't want another album that sounds like it. Not bashing the band, I just want them at their best again. Is that too much to ask?
