RUSH: Exclusive Bonus Tracks Featured On Best Buy Version Of 'Replay X3' - June 14, 2006
According to a posting on the RUSH fan site Power Windows, copies of the band's new DVD box, "Replay X3" (featuring "Exit Stage Left", "Grace Under Pressure Tour", "A Show Of Hands" and "Grace Under Pressure Tour" CD) purchased at Best Buy contain an exclusive version of the "Grace Under Pressure" audio disc which has four undocumented bonus tracks tacked onto the end of the disk. The printed track listing matches the DVD, with no mention of the bonus tracks at all other than the Best Buy sticker on the wrapper. The four bonus tracks are from the "Exit Stage Left" and "A Show of Hands" video soundtracks, three of which were previously not available on vinyl or CD: "Limelight" was previously available on "King Biscuit Flower Hour's Best of the Best: 25 Years of Rock" (live). Note: the version of "Closer To The Heart" included here was recorded during the "Moving Pictures" tour, the version found on the "Exit Stage Left" album was recorded during the "Permanent Waves" tour (with the "Glaswegian Chorus"!).

Best Buy "Replay X3" exclusive bonus tracks:

* Limelight ("Exit Stage Left" video soundtrack)
* Closer To The Heart ("Exit Stage Left" video soundtrack)
* The Spirit Of Radio ("A Show Of Hands" video soundtrack)
* Tom Sawyer ("A Show Of Hands" video soundtrack)

Just to be clear there are 3 DVD's (previously available on VHS only) and 1 audio CD.

Still waiting for one officially released version of Hemispheres. For all the live cds/dvds they have released, it is a travesty that not once have they given us a complete live rendition of this masterpiece. Come on guys, start trying to release stuff that hasn't been released before - if at all possible. Don't get me wrong, I still picked up Replay X-3 but it just doesn't make sense why they won't try to fill in gaps from previously released live material.

I paid $24.99 at Best Buy for this box set and couldn't be more pleased. What other band on the planet would put out such a comprehensive box set (3 DVDs + CD w/bonus tracks & 3 reprints of tourbooks) for such a low price? Most single DVD sets alone are $12.99 on sale. No band does as much for their fans as Rush does when it comes to their DVD releases, hands down.

The sound and video quality and packaging of this set is remarkable and undeniable. How much live stuff does a Rush fan need? Well, as much as we can get our hands on. Rush is by far one of the best live bands ever. Their shows are technically the best, musically the best and beyond their ticket value in entertainment factor. Each tour offers something special. It's not the Grateful Dead who used to put on different shows every night but for Rush fans having a time capsule of a tour is reliving a moment in music.

I'm still waiting for Rush to start up a website where you can buy specific concerts. I've heard they've practically recorded every show they've ever played. Making that available to their fans would awesome. Imagine being able to download specific shows from specific tours.

And Finally;

Rush is the best band in the land.

Rush Owns!

Rush Rules!

Dude, I love Rush but I couldn't agree more. It seems like they put out either a live DVD or triple CD every year.

I could not agree with you more. Well put. I've seen Rush on every tour since Hemispheres (made a cassette recording of the show) and have always been amazed at the show they put on. Sure, they're not the pretty boys of rock, but they definatly have a great stage persona and their musicianship is unparalleled.

I agree that you can never have enough Rush live. Their songs just sound better Live. That is why I buy any live DVD or CD they put out. Don't download this stuff if you want the best quality. If you a true fan then you will love all of the booklets and other stuff they through into their DVD releases. Rush has some of the best 5.1 Digital mixes I have heard and I have over 50 concert DVDs. And if you have scene Rush live you will agree, they are even better live.

Did you know that you can get a hard cover book with a tour book from every tour from 2112 to R30? It's a bit pricey ($150) but if you figure you would have paid $10 per tour book (if you'd bought one at the concert) it's a pretty good deal. Go to the Rush website and click on merchandise. If you haven't ever been there you may be surprised at everything available.

where is a good place for a newbee to start? i've heard mostly stuff from the early to mid 80's sound, which a lot of Rush fans tend to either love or hate. songs i have downloaded and enjoy: 'Distant Early Warning', 'Red Sector A', 'Manhattan Projects', 'Territories', 'mystic rhythms' and some other shit. most of the songs i listed can be found on 'Grace Under Pressure' and 'Power Windows', that much i already know. so what should i check out first guys?

Self_Science - you seem to enjoy the more keyboard oriented sound the band switched to with 'Grace' and 'Power Windows', if you like that then you definately want 'Hold Your Fire' and 'Presto'. Prior to these albums the music was more guitar driven - the same holds true for their latter albums.

Being new and liking that era of the band I'd recommend starting with these albums (no particular order):

Hold Your Fire
Power Windows
Grace Under Pressure
Signals

If you want to get some of the 'old school' feel then move on to (in no particular order):

Permanent Waves
Hemispheres
2112
Caress Of Steel
Rush
Fly By Night

Then you can move on to the latter day albums (in no particular order):

Roll The Bones
Counterparts
Test For Echo
Vapor Trails

After that you can move on to the various live albums and compilations. This is just my recommendation being into the band since the early 80s. Hope this helps.

Rush's catalog can be divided (loosely) into three eras - Phase 1 Rush to Hemispheres, Phase 2 Permanent Waves to Hold Your Fire and Phase 3 Presto to the Vapor Trails. Keep in mind that arguments could be made to draw these lines differently or perhaps breakdown their career into 5 or 6 phases.

If you want to know if you can stomach the earlier stuff I'd suggest you start with 2112. If you grow to love that album then you are ready to check out everything in phase 1. You are already familiar with the more mainstream albums from phase 2 so I think you would like any of those cd's. As for phase 3, these albums vary greatly in style and production, to the point that each album needs to be listened to and judged independantly.
