'Metalocalypse' Cartoon Featuring METALLICA, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE: Teaser Available
- June 15, 2006
|
|
METALLICA's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett — along with members of ARCH ENEMY and NEVERMORE — have lent their voices to the cartoon series "Death Clock Metalocalypse". Check out the show teaser at this location. Brendon Small, known for the series "Home Movies", co-created "Death Clock Metalocalypse" about a Norwegian heavy metal band called DEATHKLOK. Although they rock to the top of the charts with gusto, they are also incredibly stupid and leave a path of destruction and mayhem behind wherever they tour. The new series will premiere in August on on Adult Swim, the adult-oriented television programming block on Cartoon Network. METALLICA had previously lent their voices to such animated shows as "The Simpsons" and "Dave the Barbarian".

Dunno what to think yet, but I did love Home Movies, so I'll definitely give it a watch. Meh, but otherwise I agree that Adult Swim isn't so great these days, aside from Boondocks and Full Metal Alchemist. Damn them for not airing Space Ghost.

FatFreddy, this is from Wikipedia: "On September 20, 2005, Metallica went to the studio to record their voice parts for their appearance in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. The episode will air in Season 18 of The Simpsons, between 2006 and 2007. "
So I don't know if it's aired or not, but yeah, they recorded parts for the Simpsons last year.
By the way, this wasn't necessary, as Metallica ARE a fucking cartoon now.

Dude, you like Super Milk Chan? I have to admit whenever it's on I can't help but watch. The President is classic.
Ok, I retract my previous comment. There are definitely some other good shows on Adult Swim besides just Full Metal Alchemist and Boondocks. I also love Mission Hill, Oblongs, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and early Sealab 2021 among others.

...another cartoon ala Beavis and Butthead designed to denigrate metal musicians and fans. Lovely. I wonder what coke-addled, overpaid, man-purse wearing, urban hipster thought this one up. Oh, uh...wait, it's like supposed to be "ironic" and stuff, 'cause it's like on Adult Swim.
I read about this in Revolver. I saw the phrase "dumb as bricks" and already knew what I was getting into.
As if the music being played in the background was "stupid".
I won't be watching thank you. I have too much respect and love for this music.

"I won't be watching thank you. I have too much respect and love for this music"
...or you're taking this all a little too seriously.
It's not making fun of metal maliciously. It's just a joke. If you're implying that there is nothing to make fun of for the sake of humor in the metal community, than once again, you're probably taking the scene a little too seriously. Stand up for it when the asshole on the street corner is talking down metal solos and praising Fall Out Boy's musicianship but this cartoon looks fucking hilarious. Enjoy it as a fellow metalhead.
By the way, that music was sweet.

Yeah, it's fun to laugh at oneself when others aren't already laughing at you.
I'm taking things too seriously? Our music isn't taken seriously enough. Most people still identify metal with Spinal Tap, another abomination made by admitted metal hater Rob Reiner.
For metal to grow, the music needs to be taken more seriously. It would be different if metal was respected, not denigrated, and seen as music for dullards.
Some metal fans need to gain some self-respect.
I hope the show bombs. Anyone who truly cares about metal should feel the same way. Shows like this hurt metal.
Again, "dumb as bricks".

.....I don't see this show as being negative for metalheads. It's created by someone who is a fan of metal and can see the humor behind much of it. There's going to be members of well established metal bands lending their voices to the show as well, because they too can see the humor. If anything it's when the metal fans start getting way too serious and uptight about themselves that makes people poke fun at them. Shows like this don't "hurt" anything. It's a fucking cartoon. You look at shows like South Park where they don't take ANYTHING seriously and they poke fun at every kind of person out there. That's the purpose of cartoons. Beavis and Butthead were a different matter, because there was an agenda there on the part of MTV and it's creator I believe. They had two supposedly "metal" kids who behaved like imbeciles (which was funny many times) but then would turn around and watch actual metal videos and insult them and say they sucked. Then they'd be watching some rap video and dancing around to it and saying it was awesome. That I found to be a bit contradictory, and the fact that shows like Headbangers Ball came to an end shortly after the rise of B & B I always found a bit suspect. But enough of the stupid conspiracy theories, sorry...
Point is, Metalocalypse looks like it's going to be funny. The bands who are participating in this show seem to appreciate the humor behind it. Many of the fans will too. Perhaps this show will make some so called "normal" people out there laugh at metal....who cares?!? Who gives a fuck what those people think anyhow? This is a cartoon, not a documentary. Anyone who watches this cartoon and takes it too seriously and literally, whether they be a metal fan or not, need to calm down a bit.
