Editor Discusses Controversial GODSMACK Interview: Audio Available

Arthur editor Jay Babcock appeared on national progressive radio network AirAmericaRadio's "The Marc Moran Show" on May 29 to discuss the his controversial interview with Sully Erna, lead singer and lyricist of GODSMACK, in which he confronted Sully about the use of the band's songs "Awake" and "Sick of Life" for U.S. Navy recruiting commercials (get more details at this location). I hate Godsmack and I think this Jay Brock guy is a tool.
However, it's hard not to agree with Jay when he calls Godsmack a second tier, non-infuencial, non-important coockie-cutter band.

I think that we have to respect the soldiers right to choose that life whether we agree with the war or not. What a slap in the face to suggest that someone went to war to protect our country and it's ideals because their fave band lent their music the cause. I certainly respect their decision regardless of how I feel about the war. This is ridiculous really.

Now, before people get all pissy about this. I'm staying completely neutral here. Just wanted to clarify some info.
Jon Stewart is not a character on the show but his actual name (whether it's a stage name or not, I don't know). Also, I just recently read in the paper that Colbert hosted the White House Press dinner a month or so ago and, according to the writer, crossed the line in his political criticisms of Bush. He made his political beliefs pretty clear.

The guy definitely had an agenda going into the interview. To me, that was really unethical. But Sully should've backed himself up a little more and NOT hang up.

You're an idiot too. You think Colbert actually wrote that speech? Are you people seriously this retarded.
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report aren't different at all from Saturday Night Live or Mad TV. There is a staff of writers and editors for both shows. It's all comedy. Anything that was said at the Correspondence Dinner was pretty much the opinion of the writers of the Colbert Report.

By the way, people bash Bush and the Republican party at almost every Correspondence Dinner. Fuck, they invited Lewis Black to do one, and he is 2000% anti-Bush. The whole point of the Correspondence Dinner is to give the President and Vice President a night off to be made fun of. It's almost like a roast.

How am I an idiot for passing on what was reported in the news? Also, at what point did I say how I felt. In fact, I said I was neutral on all of this. I didn't defend Bush, I didn't defend Republicans and I didn't say that I thought Colbert wrote his own speech. All I said was that it was considered over the line ... even for the Correspondent's Dinner. Hell, I didn't even pass judgment on what you had said. I clarified.
I will only express one opinion on here: I think you're an irritated dickhead so you have to attack everyone else (even when they don't even express an opinion). Now, make your little response and feel good and tough.

I have known Sully for years and he is such a douchebag. He is one of the biggest cocksucking, lying , douchebag I have ever met in the music industry. This interviewer pulled his card. You want to see Sully squirm and lie? Ask him if Godsmack was ever an Alice in Chains cover band. Ask the lying asshole how he came up with the name Godsmack for his band. He is the epitomy of Rock scum. Oh, and his music sucks and he FAKES playing guitar on stage. This douchebag is so fucking worthless. I wonder if he would still sell his songs to the military if his kid died in Iraq?
