SEPULTURA Comment On Drummer IGOR CAVALERA's Departure - June 16, 2006
The remaining members of SEPULTURAAndreas Kisser (guitar), Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. (bass), and Derick Green (vocals) — have issued the following statement regarding the departure of drummer Igor Cavalera:

"Since the beginning of SEPULTURA the ideas of the band were based on the open mindedness, a strong attitude, and the belief in what ever it is that you set your mind to do do it with all your heart.

"This band has grown to become more than just the individuals in it, with its additions of members from the start and until now. The ideas and determination from all the members co-founders or not has kept this band together for many years along with the important belief from our supportive fan base.

"We set out to create, perform, and communicate our music to the world, an aspect of SEPULTURA that is still alive with us. We do not want to quit in the middle of what we started because this means something to us and to the people that believe in us. We created an album and video with the idea of supporting them 100% and that is what we plan to do with our releases.

"We will finish the touring cycle worldwide for 'Dante XXI' which we already started. We have enlisted Jean Dolabella from Belo Horizonte to come to complete the touring cycle on the road who will bring the positive attitude, passion and drive that has given the integrity to the name SEPULTURA.

"Despite of all our efforts to compromise and respecting Igor's desire to have a break for himself we needed to follow up with our new release with touring which is what was expected of us to do. With Igor's full understanding that we would continue the touring cycle with someone else it was accepted and fully understood by him. Upon return from the first part of the tour Igor decided to leave the band by his own choice and we can accept that. We wish him all the luck in whatever it is he wishes to pursue."

someone, please stop this fake band talking.
Can't even bebothered to read it.
Max and Igor should create a band get D.Ellefson and Marc Rizzo
and then take back the name sepultura.
Thus, the new sepultura being born
this piece of shit deserves nothing.

after Roots. Yeah, Roots was nu metal inspired (still heavy though) but really, Max was the voice of Sepultura. Dante was their best Derrick era record but that really pales in comparirison to their Max era catalog. Just look at the Live DVD they put out and compare that to Under seige. How the fuck can it even be compared? I'm in agreement, no Caveleras, no Sepultura. I keep buying their stuff hoping they'll release something up to par, but alas, hasnt happened. LIke Lumpx Death hail the Dark Ages! More sepultura than sepultura has been in years!

Lets start a petition to bring the Cavaleras together! I'll settle for 2/4 of the original sepultura anyday! But keep that guitarist max has right now, the guy can shred, and at least he doesnt sound like a girl in interviews.

translation: we spent alot of fucking money (it is a cool video, I'll give 'em that) and we need to recoup the cash. We cant quit in the middle of the tour because we have too much money riding on it. Bottom line, money.

They have every right to use the name Sepultura. Who cares who started the band. Paulo and Andreas have put 20 years into the band, and idiots think they should quit just because the two weren't around when the band was created? How come there are never any catcalls for Opeth or Napalm Death to quit? Maybe everyone who is in a band but didn't start the band should quit RIGHT NOW because it means their contributions will never be as important as being a founding member.

Idiots.

Sounds to me as if they want to end the touring cycle for 'Dante XXI' which is more than fair enough IMO and then end Sepultura for good.

Wait for a 'classic' Sepultura reunion in two or three years.

I remember hearing Deneathe the remains in the late 80's and being blown away byit. They made excellent records until Roots, which was OK, but the tribal stuff was a bit much. The band died when Max left, and each release with the knuckledragger has been worse and worse.
I suspect a "best of" CD will appear soon and that will be it.

Though I agree the max era was the best. Infact I didn't even listen to sepultura after CHAOS AD.

But still, Andreas , Paolo have the right to continue with Sepultura.

It's not their fault that Max (once a hero for his contributions on Arise and Beneath the remains, Beastial Devastations) decided he would rather play Numetal and collaborate with Fred Durst and Chino Moreno.

And it isn't their fault either that I double-G OR also decided to step down. He wants to do Hip hop and DJ stuff, I say good for him, if it makes him happy. He even said it was alright for SEPULTURA to carry on

The Cavalera brothers were once "the shit!", and they'll always be remembered for their stuff. But alas, they have changed in taste. Some of you might even call them "wiggers".

Just remember Kisser and Paolo also contributed to Arise and Beneath the remains.

Dante XXI is a good cd...much better then some of their previous efforts. I hope that they continue in the right direction but it still sucks that Igor left. Good drummer. Hopefully he makes a new band with his bro that kills both Sepultura and Soulfly. LONG LIFE CAVALERA!

These fuckers should call it quits, Sepultura simply doesn't exist without the Cavaleras - it's been a zombie for the last 10 or so years, and it's completely DEAD now.

It's the same as Pantera without the Abbots or AC/DC without the Young brothers... shame on Andreas and Paulo. Accept reality, and come up with something new!

I half see them laying Sepultura to rest after the touring for Dante has finished, and then Derrick and Andreas starting up a new band together… But at the same time I can half see them carrying on, Paulo look although he was really enjoying being in Sepultura in February… As did Derrick and Andreas.

Oh… And a take it after the A side of Scum Napalm Death should use a different name? It’s like your favourite football team or something should change their name cos no of the original player were are playing in the team anymore… No, fuck off!

What the fuck do you think you're doing???

Who the fuck do you think you are???

You did great things in Sepultura, but it was all in the past. When you decided to follow Max's macumba and burundanga you contributed to screw the band up. Do not come now to tell the world that ideas and determination shit.

Oh before I forget, please don't try to compare this with NAPALM DEATH. That's pretty much different 'cause when Barney joined the band it was pretty clear that they changed their style too. They got much more Death Metal and fortunately they got success and never depended that much on their past. You could say that Scum is a classic, but so is Harmony Corruption. Besides, their latest albums never stank like Sepultura's

Igor, if you like the new album so much, then give it what it deserves, tour it, then quit for good. This is the proper way to go.

Band, get Igor to do the last tour with you together, and quit.

come on kids, lets handle this like men!

can understand finishing the tour in support of the album they recently released, but if they wish to continue playing music together they need to change the name. Personally, I think Sepultura should have changed the name when Max left....he was, after all, the primary songwriter. I personally haven't bought any Sepultura CD since Roots. I have downloaded each CD since Roots, and all of them left me feeling like the music was sub-par to what it was originally. Arise and Chaos AD are 2 of my all-time favorite CD's and the post-Max stuff just isn't up to that caliber.

CHANGE THE NAME, YOU HAVE CEASED TO BE SEPULTURA BY DEFAULT. GIVE IT UP AND START SOMETHING NEW.

It's pretty apparent that many of you have never been in a band or anything that required group participation.

Yes, Max was the primary songwriter. But just because someone is writing a majority of the material it doesn't mean that the other members' contributions are insignificant. It takes A LOT to keep a band afloat and it's more than just writing more than the other members. If you think that Max WAS Sepultura's sound then what the hell happened between Sepultura and Soulfly? Obviously the sonic contributions of ALL the members made the Sep sound and they all have the right to lay claim to it! The success they achieved AS A BAND was through being hungry, putting on killer shows, recording some great performances and touring their asses off. It's a collective success or failure. Once Max left, he may have been the soul of the machine but the other were a part of that legacy. Why should they abandon it because some yahoo thinks they need to pack it in? Hell, I wouldn't! If my blood, sweat & tears were out into a band and I was able to move forward with a new chapter why should I be pressured to change the name? I contributed in securing it's place in history. Maybe that's not the way YOU might have done it, but you were not in the remaining members' shoes, and you STILL aren't.

It would have been a dignified end (should this tour be the end) to a great band if Igor completed the tour. While I prefer Max-era Sep, I give the band credit for continuing after he left and not being afraid to move ahead whether folks liked it or not. Right now Igor's timing seems is tacky and disrespectful to the band and the fans but who knows what really went down and his reasons may have been valid. Again, we're not members of the band.

And so what if he plays drums for some hip-hop Metal thing? And so what if Sep finds another drummer and moves on? Igor and the rest of Sep have earned the right to do as they please...and it doesn't have to please you.
