GODSMACK Talk With CNN: Video Available

CNN's Douglas Hyde caught up with GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna and drummer Shannon Larkin to talk about the group's latest disc, "IV", and how both have stopped smoking. Watch the segment here. "IV" has sold 449,000 copies in the United States since its April 25 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The band kicked off a Canadian tour last week, and will follow it up with a trip to Japan in July. GODSMACK's upcoming North American tour (set to kick off in late August) will be a three-act package, featuring ROB ZOMBIE in the co-headlining slot and SHINEDOWN as the support act.

i don't get all the godsmack bashing i see on here. they have some pretty good riffs and stay away from the rap and nu metal shit. they are by far the heaviest thing mtv has the balls to play anymore and they sure as hell beat maroon 5, good charlotte and green day..

God damn you have to be like the 1000000th person who has said this. I dont hate something cause it sells. I hate it cause the music sucks. Thats how most people think as well. So stop with that bullshit. I love Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. they sell alot more then Godsmack. Godsmack is just another Alice in Chains clone. Hell they got heir name off an AIC song. Thats why i hate Godsmack cause they are boring and shitty.

Truth be told, yes, some of their stuff does get repetative at times, but more times then not, all of their albums are full of more kick ass tracks then fillers. Not to mention they put on one hell of a live show which most bands these days are not capable of doing.
All in all, they're a great band who just so happen to have caught the ears of more people then the average "metal" band would. And yes people, that's okay. That's kind of the idea when you get in the music business, to get your music "heard" by as many people as you can. Call it selling out, call it mainstream, quite frankly, I don't give a fucking shit one way or another. In the grand scheme of things, Godsmack obviously is doing something right because they've been pounding out the goods on a wider scale for almost ten years now. And they ain't no fuckin' fluke either.
And besides, need I say that the "I Stand Alone" main riff is one of the most killer riffs of the last twenty years? All who disagree can stick their thumb up their ass and spin. This is Pagan Master signing out, wheeeeeeeeeeeeew!

Blabbermouth is that is all they do is sit around and bash and hate every band that is brought on here except the bands that have no talent.
Why do the they do this? Because it is the cool thing to do! They have no clue what real talent is.
Lets see: Metallica, Godsmack, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer.... all these great bands are bashed because they are "uncool to listen to now a days. These kids are just sheep.
Basically if you can not make out the notes that are being played or the lyrics that are being sung it it fucking great music for these heavy metal posers.
Godsmack is a great band and are fucking awesome live. Just because they sell records these pukes are going to bash them.

and haven't tired of them yet. I do agree that they are better than most of the bands mtv plays, not quite the best though. Their new album was pretty cool. And I think a lot of the bashing comes from people who bring all these bands under the catagory "nu-metal" or "metalcore" and never even give the band a chance.

ALICE WAS/IS MY FAVORITE ALL TIME BAND AND WITH VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS GODSMACK DO NOT SOUND LIKE ALICE. THEY MAKE HEAVY ROCK WITH GREAT DRUMS AND A GOOD BEAT. TRUE GODSMACK'S NOTHING GREAT BUT THEY CONSISTENTLY MAKE GOOD ROCKING MUSIC AND I THINK AFTER 8 TO 10 ALBUMS PEOPLE WILL GIVE THEM THEIR DUE.

I honestly don't think Godsmack sound anything like Alice in Chains. There's a verse in a song off the self-titled album that sounds nearly identical to AIC's "I Know Somethin' 'Bout You," but that's about where the similarities end. To me, Godsmack are just a generic, boring mainstream metal band. I've honestly tried to enjoy their music for what it is, but I just can't. Their first album has some memorable moments on it, but after that, I don't think they've really offered anything new or interesting. To say they sound like Alice in Chains only undermines what AIC accomplished. There isn't a band out there that sounds like AIC. Many bands TRY to, but none ever even come close.

seem slow and uninspired
a couple songs have potential but lose it after a couple minutes

Well said. I'm a fan of them and people still put them in the "nu metal" area when they don't rap at all. No dj. They are better then slipknot, korn, linkin park, limp bizkit, papa roach etc.
But i'm not feeling the new album tho, one or 2 songs i liked.

For those of you that continue to bash Godsmack..... you have obviously never seen them in comcert!!! I have seen them twice now and they kicked ass both both times!! Sullys voice is strong and raw as hell and the rest of the band follow suit.They don't need all the bells and whistles that alot of other bands do to put on a sweet rock show...if you get the chance, me advice is to go and get blown away!!!!

has a point. there are a FEW similarities between AIC and Godsmack, mainly in the vocals and use of wah-wah pedal at times, but if they, in fact, resemble AIC, it is a fun-house mirror reflection at best. like dude said, Godsmack are just a somewhat generic, by the numbers mainstream metal/hard rock band. their sound is closer to Metallica's than AIC's IMO, but they take influences from all over the place. they are quite good at what they do IMO, and better than most of their kind; at the very least, they have managed to find a semi-unique(not quite fully) midway point between the post-grunge sound and the modern metal sound, which keeps them somewhat identifiable, giving them a slight edge over the competition. But yeah, this band will be forgotten the minute they disband. there will be no legacy or anything. Sully will just end up a rich ass white boy.
btw, is 'IV' actually any good? i've enjoyed all their albums to a certain extent, esp the last two.

is they both released VERY mediocre acoustic albums. But at least when AIC did it, there was an actual point for it to exist; it was the thing for bands in their position to do, it seemed timely.
