EVANESCENCE Frontwoman Talks About Upcoming Album

EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee spoke to JAM! Music at last night's (June 18) MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto about her band's upcoming sophomore album, "The Open Door". "I think if people expect this album is going to be softer and more feminine and more wimpy [than 2003's 'Fallen'], they're going to be surprised," she said. "It's not an album full of 'My Immortal'-like songs. Every song is completely different and I feel like at times it definitely goes heavier than we had the capacity to do before. But in a way that's still new and fun and unique and not trying to be like anything else that's out there. "This time around I was in control completely and didn't have any real limits," she continued. "I felt like I could do things that I didn't know I could do before and that's an incredible feeling. And I realized I could do a lot more things than I thought I could, as a singer, as a music writer, even as an engineer. "It was nice to be able to write something and not have it shot down." I think the new album will be realy good, Amy has a great voice. I notice they get bashed alot around here but oh well, Im a huge Lacuna Coil fan too and I must say I always find it silly when Amy gets bashed for sounding like Christina. Other then having simular voices the bands playing styles are diferent and the only other thing they have in common is they have female singers.
Think about this for a second, we are on a metal message board and are always complaing about them sounding the same... no male metal singers sound the same or use simular styles ?

haha i like how people are saying that female singers never amount to anything. If you're going to argue that, then you might as well argue that bands like Fleetwood Mac, Heart, No Doubt, etc never existed. Obviously they sound good to a few million people.

Evanescence has some great songwriting. Unfortunately no one gives them a chance because they were all over MTV. Also the guest apperance from that "wake me up!" guy didn't help much. For myself I think Amy has an AMAZING voice, the production on the last album was mint... great piano fills, nice electronic accents, and like i said, great songwriting to back it all up. I think anyone who is a true music fan and sat down with an open mind to listen to Fallen would like it. Anyone else is just talking out of their ass.
