If any of you little punks have never seen them live, just shut the fuck up until you have. Most of the douchebags on this site are fucking armchair quarterbacks who live "Vicarious"ly through your fucking computer screens. Go out and live life people. Until you've seen about 50 bands live, you don't know what is truly great, and what fucking blows.
I would like to challenge ANYONE to Attend a Tool show in 2006 and then attend a Metallica show in 2006 and tell me which band was better. Tool is everything Metallica wishes they were.

Ive seen Tool live twice. Although they put on a good show, I think I will skip seeing them this time since they put out such a lame album. That album is booooring.

Listening to 10,000 Days is basically listening to a bunch of songs that have alot of build up for nothing. Its like youre waiting for the songs to go somewhere, but they never do. They just keep trodding along until they end, leaving you feeling cheated like I did when I bought the album. I still love their old stuff but 10,000 days is a snorefest.

Go ahead and bash me asshole Tool fanatics. Tell me I dont understand Tool or that I havent listen to the album in the right mindset. You will just be wasting your breathe. That album is boring and you all know it. I cant force myself to listen to half-assed music.

but Tool has so many more elements. Maynard is an original front man, Adam Jones is one of the most original people in the world, Justin is a damn fine bassist, and Danny Carey is one of the best drummers ever. EVER. The top 3 drummers in the world right now are Danny, Dave Lombardo, and Tim Alexander from Primus. There are so many elements to Tool that make them a great band. And you really need to sit down and read the lyrics to fully appreciate the band. I am not going to get in a chest thumping debate with the ignorant folks on this board. I just want to help the real music fans around appreciate what to look for in this band. If you may not like Maynards voice, you might come to love his music, or love Adams movies. Point is, if you really love rock, then there is some element of this band that you will like. And I am sure that they will have a great opening band. Last time they alternated Messugah with Fantomas and Tomahawk (Both Mike Patton fronted bands). And that was a great part of the experience, that I was exposed to great music that I will never hear on the radio. I hope someone reads this and gives them a shot.

Probably will still check them out live again. Good live band, especially Danny Carey.

Tool is one of the greatest bands around today. its this is NOT hype. the people that don't like them just don't understand them. Tool's music just goes right over their heads. sorry you guys don't know how to appreciate good music. you neandrethals should just go back to listening to your mindless, one-dimensional rock trash.

my only complaint is that they charge too much money for their concert tickets.

I've seen them a few times and agree that they put on a great show. But the fact of the matter is that right now this band has hit their plataeu - they've maxed out. The last three albums have been the same.

I'm not saying they suck or anything that drastic - they are very talented but rehashing the same music three times in a row is a bit boring. The band has the potential to expand into new genres and levels but they just don't seem to do it - it's stale now.

And, for those 'holier than thou' Tool fans (like a few above)...stop telling the rest of the music community to conform to your tastes. You should have enough respect for others to let them decide what shows to go to and what bands to support. Just because you love Tool doesn't mean everyone else should. That's like me saying you have to *gasp* go outside of metal and listen to bands like moe or The Flaming Lips because I like them. I respect your tastes, you should respect mine.

I haven't posted on this site for years but with the news of Tool playing my fine native city of Calgary, I have come on again with a question:

Any word on the opening act? I was really hoping for Opeth but they are playing a European festival a few days before the Vancouver date so that is unlikey. Any thoughts?

I'm seeing them at Roskilde festival in 10 days while I'm visiting Europe and it is sure to be an experience, like all Tool shows are. I'm not going to bother bashing people who hate them but all I know is that Tool on the Lateralus tour was an absolutely mind-blowing experience for me. Can't speak for anyone but myself but, as I always have, I recommend the hell out of them.

I must admit it took me awhile to love the new album. At first I was convinced that it was great, but not TOOL great ie. not what they were capable of. After many repeated listens (mostly headphones, obivously) I find it extremely solid and I am anxiously awaiting hearing the new songs live.

I can somewhat see the point you were attempting to make...I think. Believe me, if Tool can do the "An Evening With..." thing I am behind it 100% and scrap the opening act entirely. However, when it comes down to it, if they're going to play a regular length set...why not have a great opening band and a chance to see more metal?

I'll bring up Opeth again because they were really the band I was hoping would tour North American with Tool this summer. Now, if I can see a solid 40 minute or (hopefully more) set from a fantastic band like Opeth, then see a set from Tool, is that not better than just seeing a regular length set by Tool? I don't see it as "warming up" or "preparing the fans" before them, I see it as a chance to catch another great metal act. I just don't see the point in "one and only act and that's all" mentality before you've seen the possibilities. Besides, if you hate the opening act, show up late. Then pretend that it is only Tool. Seems simple to me.

I agree, 10,000 days takes a few solid listens to get your head around it. I was a little dissapointed with it at first, but after leaving it in my car CD player for a week straight, I really got into it. I seem to remember the same thing happening with Lateralus. I hope they come back to Chicago this fall, because they're show here last month sold it incredibly quick.

I have seen Tool live and it was the most dissapointing band I have ever seen. I love Tools music and I'm not a just a hater but wow they were bad live. They didn't do SHIT. Their stage show were the lights and video screens on each side of the stage. I wanted my money back for such a lack luster performance. They had nothing to do with the live show. Take away all the fancy lighting and they wouldn't of had shit and that's wrong. Music is a performance art. They sounded great but did nothing on stage and were very boring.

And why the fuck are all of you whining about a opening bad. THANK GOD when I saw them that Meshuggah opened for them because the show would have been a near total loss without a band that actually performed on stage and not just played. Also, bands have opening bands because thats how less well known bands get good publicity.

C'mon man, they are pretty far away ffrom TRL material. And how can you even question Slayer's god..er satan like status? I can respect that, for some people, Tool isn't their cup of tea. But in the course of the next 20-30 years history will be much kinder to bands like them and Slayer than Metallica, Korn or any of these other fading rockstars who release an album and tour EVERY year even though they know the quality of what they are putting out is sub par. Tool has put out a total of 2 albums in the last 10 years. They wait until they have something relevant to say. They could easily grind out tour after tour, but they have more respect for themselves and their fans.
Metallica and Korn can now be classified as MTV nerd metal or Poser rock.

Nowadays Tool and Dream Theater have become the bands that the little smart ass nerds worship because they are too much of pussies to listen to the real heavy shit like Pantera or Carcass. Stuff like that is too "macho" for them. Kiss my ass. Pantera has just as much, if not more soul than Tool.

I agree with you to point. They did sound great live but they might as well not have got on stage. I mean would that be a good show if they weren't there and sounded good. And besides the point their whole shows were theatrics. Big movie screens and Maynard standing on a platform on the BACK of the stage (the platform displaying the same images as on the screen) no where near the audiance is theatrics to me. Like I said... I love TOOL's music but I'd never pay to see them live again. Unless Meshuggah was with them or some good opener. I know this will piss off many but it's the experience I had seeing them live.

Fuck tool are unbelievable live and anyone who doesnt appreciate their live performances arent really tool fans becuase thats what tool is about opening peoples minds to different things and a lot of that is visually at their live shows. Of course some live shows are amazing cos of the energy of the band and that cant always be said of tool but they are an experience in themselves and i could watch them live for the rest of my life if i could. Their ability to change songs like on salival with pushit is amazing not a lot of bands could change a heavy song so dramatically that it involves middle eastern influences.

And why does everyone love teapot so much the only thing ive ever heard him say is im back!! well done fuck maybe there is a reason u get kicked off cos ur just like most of the people on here useless. It completely amazes me that any of you would actually say that tool sucks live or in any other capacity. Their shows, especially the lateralus tour defied logic and broke so many molds for a live experience. And what really kills me is that they wouldn't even need all the bells and whistles to attract an audience, their music does all of the talking, but they are hands down artists. I can't wait for the day when they direct an entire picture and just play live to the storyline. Now that would be epic! Can't get enough of Tool Live!
