OZZY OSBOURNE Among Judges At 6th Annual INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS

Ozzy Osbourne has been announced as one of more than a dozen music artists/music industry professionals who will serve as judges at the sixth annual Independent Music Awards. Created by Music Resource Group, publisher of the best-selling Musician's Atlas contact resource, the IMA program coordinates a variety of programs and events to market and promote IMA winners and finalists throughout the year, according to Sonicbids.com. Among the promotional benefits are online jukeboxes dedicated to both IMA Winners and IMA Finalists. MRG directs consumers and industry representatives to these two promotional areas through a series of high-profile marketing campaigns, advertising, trade show activities, promotional materials, etc. Other atist judges for the upcoming 2007 awards include Wynonna, Suzanne Vega, Cyndi Lauper, Fatboy Slim, McCoy Tyner, Paul Oakenfold, Marc Ribot, Buddy Guy, David Grisman, Beenie Man and Howard Tate. OZZY made some good records back in the day so dont compare ozzy and gene simmons. Also ozzy is highly entertaining when he's on tv unlike say gene simmons or tommy lee. I have been to numerous Ozzfests and this year will be the first I will skip in ages. The only reason to go is Hatebreed, and even they have pushed to the bottom of the MainStage, when they should be at the LEAST above Avegened Sevenfold.
The two main reasons to skip Ozzfest are Clear Channel and Sharon Osbourne.
Clear Channel destroyed commercial radio. They are the reason that your favorite radio station is nothing more than a looped infomercial. Back in the day it was at the discretion of the programming manager of the station what was played. Now, the parent company hands a list to the station. And this same list is handed to every station manger of that genre of music all around the country. And this list is decided by what record labels are willing to shell out dough to get spins. It's a method that was invented by Clear Channel/ and Limp Bizkit in the early 90's. It is because of this that you never hear bands like Tomahawk, The Melvins, Isis, or Meshuggah on the radio and are forced to listen to bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, Blink 182, Linkin Park or whatever other crap is HOT at the moment. Commercial radion was, at one time, the most important tool for exposing new music. No more. If it wasn't for the internet, we would be living in a communist style state of oppresion when it comes to music. And they have succesefully stifled that as well. But thank god for Myspace where you can at least go and get a sample of bands to see if you like them.
And the other main reason to boycott OZZFEST is Sharon. I was at Glen Hell in San Bernadino last year for the infamous egging incident. First off, that is the worst venue in the world to see a concert. I have been to hundreds of venues and the only place that was less fan friendly was Griffis AFB in Ny where they held Woodstock 99. The place is hell on earth. I hope Ozzy chokes on all the goddamn dust from the second stage. But back to the egging incident. If you know a band sucks that bad, or your problems with them have reached that point, simply remove them from the bill. The fact that you ruined their set by egging them and killing their power was absolutely disgusting. That was easily the most unprofessional, classeless act I have ever witnessed in all my dealings with the music industry. And to top it off, Velvet Revolver was there that day and could have easily taken Maiden's spot. But instead they played the second stage, unannounced.
There are so many better shows to see folks. Don't give your money to people who feel it is comical to manipulate you in this manner. Go see a local hardcore act and give your money to muscians who really need it. Go discover a band on MYSPACE and send them an email telling them you like their music. Two that I have found are The Tony Danza Tapdance Experience ( they recently lost all their equipment due to a fire, so they could use some support) and Influenza (these guys are super talented, they really have that Nirvana raw feel, plus they have really good musical taste). So go show bands like this some love and FUCK OZZFEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don' t feel that hard rock is festival music, after all. A hard rock/heavy metal concert should be an intense experience and if it is, then a one band is certainly enough. I have always liked the concerts where there is just a one band and nothing else. A band and about a thousand people who are there only because they really want to see that band. My best concert experiences have been like that. It' s simple, it' s effective, it' s the real thing. Two weeks ago I saw Ted Nugent and he performed without any support group and without any kind of special gimmicks, two hour set, pure rock n roll from the beginning to the end. That' s the right way to do it.

Some people have achieved so much that it doesn't matter what they do afterwards. Ozzy helped pioneer metal, and never made a really bad album. That overrules any short-term celebrity BS he does. It's like when David Bowie does a car ad - he's David Bowie, who fucking cares, he earned the right to do whatever he wants. Ozzy is up there with him and Elvis. He's a fucking icon.
Now so is Gene Simmons, but he has prostituted himself to the point where he is more Gene Simmons the image than Gene Simmons the man. At least Ozzy is still making good albums.

Buddy Guy Fucking rocks.
I saw "The Living Legend" Buddy Guy at the Commodore Ballroom In Vancouver a few months back, and the dude can still wail on his Axe.
He's 70 Years old and can still out rip 98% of guitar players in todays modern-bunk-bands. That, and his Voice, like All Blues Voices, continues to get better with age.
