VINNIE PAUL To Attend Unveiling Of DIMEBAG Painting; Possible New Project In The Works

Justin Press of the Fort Worth Weekly is reporting that former PANTERA/ DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott will be on hand at The Soundstage in Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday, July 4 for the unveiling of "Dimebag's Raging Heart", a painting by Southlake artist Lamberto Alvarez. The event will include performances by HIGHVIEW, SHOTGLASS, and BLACKWATER, with special guests THIS LAST ANTIC and AT THE PARK. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Musician Scholarship Fund. Since the death of his brother, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Vinnie has been playing with DISTURBED, ANTHRAX, and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, and not too long ago, he pounded out "Runnin' With the Devil" with one-half of VAN HALEN, singer-guitarist Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony. "I was down in Cabo with them and played with them for a week," he said. "It was awesome." Some full-time possibilities are on the table, but Vinnie is ethically proscribed from talking about them. "I have been working with different people, and I really can't tell you who they are right because we're in the middle of everything." As for his change in status from rockstar to rockstar businessman (owner of his record label, Big Vin Records), Vinnie said, "The more and more I go along, the more I miss playing, but it's all been part of the healing process, and time is truth. Remember that guy back in the 80s and 90s with the big handle bar mustache who used to paint all the sports stars, that's what it looks like to me.
Otherwise it's decent. It's not Rembrandt but the intent is genuine and it's cool.
It's not gunfire, it's the fire and spirit in his heart. Art is mostly interpretive and that's my interpretation.

That is a fucking great painting. With the fire coming out of his heart. That is the purest emotion on there. I think the artist did an excellent job.

Why? He can't do ANYTHING without mentioning Dime. Yeah, his brother was fucking shot to death. Does that mean he can't do anything without tagging Dime's name on it? I can just picture him playing in BLS, and Zakk turns around and tells the audience "Ladies and gentlemen, on drums, Dimebag's brother!"

They make Dime look like a fucking hippie. As far as I'm concerned, Vinnie Paul is a dick. I know Phil and the rest of the guys have had their fallout, and Phil was a raging cockhole back in his hardcore drug days, but he's well past that now. Rex has forgiven him, even performed with him. Why cant Vinnie get over it and make up. For all I care he's a piece of redneck shit who needs to just suck up his pride, smash the sour grapes, and make up. If he would just get past his own hatred, the 2 could be awesome again together. I know it wouldn't be the same without Dime, but they had a chemistry, and that never dies. With the right tools, they could form another awesome band. It would in no way compare to Pantera, but it would still be great, and it would be remembered far better than that travesty known as Damageplan. Until the day he dies, he will bask in the shadow cast by Dime's death, and he will use that so that people pity him as much as he thinks they should. Get past it, get on with your life, and start ripping again. We need you to make music, not make us feel sorry for you.

But Dime's hands weren't yellow and his face wasn't orange and his hair didn't have dots in it and the heart in our chest isn't really shaped like a heart on an American Greeting's card and and and and and....

Yeah, I'm sure it does epresent something like fire of the heart and spirit, but the circumstances of his death should have been realized while peinting....if he died in a plane crash the pic would be great, this one resembles gun fire too much.
And why is Vinnie playing with Disturbed, ugh.

From one artist to another, that is an awesome painting bro.
Very rich in your choice of colors. You definitely captured Mr.Dimebag's vivacity while performing, right there in your portrait.
Portrait painting is not easy at all. It took me months to learn it.

Pretty cool painting. Like any piece of music or art, it is all about opinion and tastes. Some people will like it, some won't. It's cool to have it done though and the proceeds are going to a worthy cause, we should be atleast happy about that. But I am a little concerned about Dime's name being used way too much for every single benefit and any oportunity possible. I just don't want Dime's name to become just whatever.
