DAYS OF THE NEW Mainman Lines Up Solo Tour Dates - June 29, 2006
DAYS OF THE NEW frontman Travis Meeks has lined up the following solo tour dates:

Jun. 29 - Mokena, IL @ Pearl Room
Jul. 02 - El Paso, TX @ KLAQ Radio Show
Jul. 14 - Flint, MI @ The Machine Shop
Jul. 15 - Grand Rapids, MI @ The Rocker
Jul. 19 - Oshkosh, WI @ The Algoma Club
Jul. 20 - Madison, WI @ Dane County Fairgrounds
Aug. 07 - Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ @ Jenkinsons
Aug. 10 - Farmingdale, NY @ The Crazy Donkey
Aug. 11 - Allentown, PA @ The Sterling Rock Room
Aug. 12 - Manchester, NH @ Mark's Place
Aug. 13 - Boston, MA @ LocoBazooka

Immediately following these shows, Travis plans on returning to the studio to finish work on the "Purple" album (the follow up to 2001's "Red" album).

After his much-talked-about appearance on A&E's "Intervention" television show, Travis has written about half a dozen newer songs for the project. A late summer release is being eyed right now. It is said to go back to the roots of the first album, but also blending the ethnic and classical sounds of the last two records.

Travis is said to be "currently in great spirits" and has reportedly been sober for over nine months. He has been very patient and choosy about his career, and is looking for a record label to finish out his vision (since the DAYS OF THE NEW records are differentiated by color rather than by name).

bill- you're a fool and no mistake. How many great artists have had addiction problems in the history of rock? Wake up you goon.

I'm really pleased he's getting back out there - Meeks is such a unique talent it would be a great shame otherwise. Slash made a big mistake when he didn't keep him on for The Project imo. And if Purple goes back to the classic first album sound then it's all good!

COMMENT | underrated indeed!

I would agree that Days of the News' first album was very overplayed but that shit was good. Listen to the track "Face of the Earth", great song! The second album was even better. The red album, maybe not so much, but was still better than half the crap that is out today. Travis is very underrated. He's no legend, but his talent can't be ignored. Just my opinion. On a side note, How the fuck do I change my username? I haven't logged in for over two years and my username has expired in the pop culture shelf life. Any help is appreciated.

I am very excited that Meeks is actually getting it back together. I agree with everyone except Bill. Travis Meeks is a talent that I have always enjoyed listening to. So far his music has gotten better and better as he recorded more and as time went along. Too bad he is not hitting up Vegas!

The fisrt DOTN album was pretty good and I still listen to a few of those sopngs every now and then. I saw the A&E episode too and was shocked about what I saw. The guy was in a bad place and it's great to see him sober again. He does have some talent. The record however, I'm not too sure about. If he does go back to his roots then I might be interested. Another great acoustic rock album is what he's best at, keep it that way.

I actually liked the red album. I listen to that more than any of them. Never saw the A&E show but I did hear the story. I'm surprised that there isn't more negative posts here, after all DOTN isn't exactly heavy metal. Glad to see people can appreciate it.

I seen the A&E Intervention with Travis. A very talented musician, but a very Horribe addiction. I'm glad to see that he is clean. Meth is a fuckin Terrible drug. I have seen so fuckin many friends use and abuse that shit, it is ridiculous. Hope all is well.

The first album by this gay band was not overplayed, it should NOT have even BEEN fucking played. They were simplistic and mediocre crap then, and just because some toothless meth head got his shit clean doesn't mean anyone should be impressed.

FUCK THIS BAND
FUCK ALTERNATIVE SHIT

This band was just another nail in the coffin of decent music.

Some must-haves for DOTN fans:

Live Bootleg:

Stoned Immaculate (Doors tribute)
Featuring DOTN on "LA Woman" and "The End"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoned_Immaculate:_The_Music_of_the_Doors

The next record, "Purple" has been a long time coming (5 years).

"Back to the roots" is kind of miseleading as he's never really lost touch with acoustic music. Some of the songs on "Red" (3rd album) are some of the first songs he ever wrote, and he never included on the 1st album.

Real DOTN fans want another "Green" album ;)

I always found Days of the New to be ultra-boring.

I'm just not into all that acoustic guitar, mispronounced word, pseudo-grunge.

And that, my fellow B'mouthers is one man's opinion.

...and it was real, real sad. Wow. It's crazy 'cause years ago, a band I was in at the time played this outdoor festival in Jacksonville Florida, and Days of the New was one of the bigger bands playing...and I always remember after they played, he (Travis) came out into the crowd by himself and was just stumbling around, fucked up, mumbling to himself, etc...it was kinda funny, but sad. He must have been whacked out of his mind.

Good to hear he's getting his shit together...he's got lots of talent going to waste if he dosent.

Days of the New came onto the scene sounding alot in the vein of Alice In Chains IMO. Right at the same time when Grunge was running shit. They're from my hometown of Louisville, KY. I remember everybody tripping balls back in '94 when the first album dropped. I know this chic who used to date/fuck Travis when he was on his meth decline. She said he would lock himself into his house and do dope and stay up all hours of the night acting weird and shit. I personally never bought the 2nd or 3rd albums (had lost interest at that time). The couple of songs I did listen to on the 2nd cd sounded very Doorish with Travis' own touch. I liked it but was burnt out on Doors music at that time (that's all I listened to while munching on magic mushrooms back then). Maybe I'll give 'em a download and see if I like them or not. I had heard from friends he was bad off on the meth. I figured he would be dead by now to be honest with you. I'll have to check out that show 'Intervention' though......

Forgot to add, the remaining members went on to form Tantric, whose debut album was good shit. I've partied with the drummer on several occasions. He's a real down to earth cat. In fact, you wouldn't even think he was in a band signed to a big label if you met him. Second album didn't fare as well, and last I heard they're living in a van down by the river.

TRAVIS IS THE REASON I WENT AND BOUGHT AN ACOUSTIC. WHEN I HEARD THAT KID ROCK LIKE THAT ON AN ACOUSTIC I HAD TO GRAB ONE BY THE TIRD TIME I HEARD THEIR FIRST ALBUM. HIS EAR FOR MEODY IS AMAZING! I THOUGHT FOR SURE AFTER WATCHING INTERVENTION THAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE. I'M SO GLAD FOR HIM THAT HE'S MADE IT THROUGH SO FAR. METH IS THE TOUGHEST DRUG(TOUGHER THAN HEROIN I HEAR) TO QUIT. GREAT VOICE, GREAT GUITARIST GREAT TALENT. I MET HIM ONCE AND HE IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT THAT'S PART OF WHAT MAKES HIM UNIQUE AS A MUSICIAN. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD HIS STUFF TRY LISTENING TO HIS ALBUMS WITH AN OPEN MIND THEY'RE VERY PURE.

I'm really interested in hearing some new material. I personally think that the 1st album was best, and that he was a little nuts for firing the band, but to each his own. He did some mean stuff on the Doors Tribute record. I personally think he should have toured with them.
